Please join Care4Carolina for our virtual briefing on the impacts of COVID-19 and the influence of the health insurance coverage gap in North Carolina.
Our expert panel of speakers will cover a range of topics, including: the impact of the pandemic on our economy, health systems, families and children, and chronic disease patients, as well as the role health disparities have played in worsening the situation for so many North Carolinians.
We will discuss how closing the health insurance coverage gap is vital to the health of our citizens, and to alleviating the devastating impacts of this pandemic.
Our director, Erica Palmer Smith, will also offer insight on policy options to address these concerns and share action items for attendees.
This event will take place over Zoom. Registration is required

Help us plan for the future of Hendersonville Road. As Buncombe County continues to grow, more development along this crucial north-south corridor is expected. Asheville City Government, the French Broad River MPO, Buncombe County Government, NCDOT, as well as community groups and institutions along the 5.4 mile corridor are partnering to examine and propose strategies related to congestion, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and connectivity. Join us virtually to make your voice heard and interact with project team members, as a big part of this corridors success relies on the regions input!
The meeting will be held virtually via Zoom with a call-in option available. Join us by clicking the link posted or click the image for login details. For more information on the project, this event or to access the ongoing survey and web map, go to: http://frenchbroadrivermpo.org/hendersonville-road-corridor/

We will give a general overview of the risks and benefits of BHRT and discuss newer topics such as the consensus statement on testosterone use in MP women and trends toward prescribing testosterone for men in andropause.
We will also discuss the recent support of continuing HRT in women over the age of 65 backed by data on the safety and efficacy of transdermal preparations in this population. Finally, we will discuss the impact of estradiol and testosterone on healthy aging over and above the typical discussion of heart, brain, and bone health. Research out of the University of California San Francisco demonstrates the importance of telomeres in helping to prevent DNA damage that contributes significantly to the development of chronic diseases after the age of 65. Both estrogen and testosterone help to maintain telomere length and thus prevent DNA damage as we age.
What is BHRT?
Bio-identical simply means that the hormone has exactly the same molecular structure as the one naturally made by your body. This is important because your body recognizes it and can metabolize it normally. The term “bio-identical” does not indicate the source of the hormone, only its structure. Bio-identical hormones are made by processing hormone precursors found in plants like soy and yams.

Learn how to reverse the very real and devastating impact of stress through the SIMPLE practice of instinctive meditation that will profoundly shift your life.
Instinctive meditation means it’s natural and our bodies are wired to do it easily and efficiently. All we need to do is to set up the right conditions and our bodies will eagerly cooperate. Learn the skill set needed to meditate on your own even if you have a racing mind and little spare time.
Dropping into deep relaxation on a regular basis helps you to be calm in the face of overwhelm and urgency, can improve your health, and help you be more responsive and less reactive to challenges.
This will be a live webinar on Zoom. You can attend from anywhere that is comfortable to you. Once you register, you will get instructions on how to log in to the event. You will have the option of having your video on or off. You can also call in using a phone number. Link to zoom class:
https://mailchi.mp/9e1057b0227e/meditation-asheville-salt-cave
We’ll start with the basic principles of this approach. Then you will learn and practice some basic skills. This will be followed by a longer guided meditation where you can incorporate the basic skills. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the class.
A weekly Zoom drop-in class in instinctive meditation will run on Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 am EST starting April 29 and running for 12 weeks.
Drop in as you can. Each class will cover a different technique.

Asheville Outlets has announced that the majority of retailers and eateries at the center are now open, including American Eagle Outfitters, Lucky Brand, RH Outlet, West Elm Outlet, Pandora, Skechers, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Bradley Factory Outlet Store, Johnston & Murphy Factory Store, Talbot’s Outlet, and Le Creuset, among many more.
Asheville Outlets is an open-air shopping center; hours are Monday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, 12 noon to 6:00 p.m.
The French Broad River MPO has been working with local governments and community stakeholders in the region over the last year to develop a plan for a regional trail network, the Hellbender Regional trail. This plan connects the various bicycle, pedestrian, and greenway plans developed locally in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania counties to illustrate existing and planned trails that may someday connect to form a regional network for bicycle and pedestrian travel.
Unlike highway and roads, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure is primarily the responsibility of the various local governments in our region so the Hellbender Regional Trail Plan does not intend to usurp local brands or mandate designs, but intends to make the various sections of planned and existing networks greater than the sum of its parts through increased coordination and partnerships. This plan focuses on regional connections, but does not deprioritize more locally-focused infrastructure. It is primarily focused on multi-use paths (paved trails, greenways, rail-to-trails, sidepaths, etc.) but may include some sections with on-street and other connections where constraints may require exceptions to a typical off-road path. This is also a long-range plan. At more than 150 miles, the full build-out of this network would reflect a nearly ten-fold increase in the miles of multi-use paths in the region- a task that will likely take a considerable amount of time at current funding levels. At this point, organizers are inviting the public to comment on the Draft Hellbender Regional Trail Plan that reflects the work of the work group and stakeholders as well as the countless hours put into developing the local plans in our region on which the Hellbender Regional Trail Plan is based.
The Draft Hellbender Regional Trail Plan is available on the MPO’s website and comments bay be sent in by Friday, August 21st via the google doc form available on the website or by emailing [email protected].
