24-7 Spyz Sun
Oct 18 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
The Grey Eagle

24-7 Spyz

Rolling Stone Magazine said it best when it referred to 24-7 Spyz new album The Soundtrack to the Innermost Galaxy as “a musical ride that keeps on giving something new”.

Yes, 24-7 Spyz are back with their first album in over 13 years and an ambitious tour schedule that includes dates in both the US and Europe.

Formed in South Bronx, NY in 1986, the band is best known for mixing R&B, soul, funk and reggae with heavy metal and hardcore punk. The fact that they are African Americans playing variations of heavy metal led critics to compare them to bands such as Living Colour, Fishbone, and Bad Brains. They were early pioneers in the fusion of these particular music styles, influencing many artists and finding their own commercial success along the way. In the midst of creating music that was true to themselves, 24-7 Spyz also helped to shatter the stereotypes and dispel the myth that “Black Bands Don’t Rock” by releasing eight groundbreaking albums.

Travis Book Happy Hour ft Matthew R. & Andy D. of The Lil Smokies

TRAVIS BOOK of THE INFAMOUS STRINGDUSTERS

The Travis Book Happy Hour is a 90 minute variety show hosted by Travis Book; bassist, songwriter, and vocalist in the Grammy Award winning bluegrass band, The Infamous Stringdusters, streaming live from the historic Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC. Born from his desire to bring musicians and friends together for collaboration and conversation, Travis launched the series in the summer of 2020 amidst the uncertainty of the Covid-19 crisis and a country divided. Faced with a cascade of existential questions about the nature of life and of being, Travis sought an outlet for inquiry, and individuals to help him dig deeper into what it means to be a musician and a creative being in the context of an ever-changing world. Unique, spontaneous musical collaboration with friends and contemporaries leads to singular moments of harmony and the occasional musical train-wreck… The Travis Book Happy Hour is his attempt to shine light into the darkest corners of our lives; to dive deep into the nature of our being and emerge bathed in the love, happiness, grace, and gratitude that’s available to us all, and hopefully, to make some beautiful, meaningful music along the way.

MATTHEW RIEGER & ANDY DUNNIGAN of THE LIL SMOKIES

Drawing on the energy of a rock band and the Laurel Canyon songwriting of the ‘70s, The Lil Smokies are reimagining their approach to roots music on Tornillo, named for the remote Texas town where the album was recorded. Produced by Bill Reynolds (The Avett Brothers, Band of Horses), Tornillo is the band’s third studio album. Formed in Missoula, Montana, The Lil Smokies have built a national following through constant touring, performing at Red Rocks, LOCKN’, High Sierra, Telluride, Bourbon & Beyond and more.

An Evening with Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers POSTPONED
Oct 21 @ 8:30 pm
Isis Music Hall

“The music may be pure old time Celtic, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll.” – Winnipeg Free Press
The Tannahill Weavers are one of the world’s premier traditional Celtic bands. Their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, original ballads and lullabies, and humorous tales of life in Scotland.

Born of a session in Paisley and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the group has made an international name for its special brand of Celtic music, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms.

As they release their 18th recording, Òrach (“Golden” in Gaelic) to celebrate their 50th anniversary, they are firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage. From reflective ballads to footstomping reels and jigs, the variety and range of the material they perform is matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.

“Formed from a Paisley pub session in 1968, seminal trailblazers the Tannahill Weavers now also rank as national treasures.”
-Glasgow Celtic Connections 2018

“An especially eloquent mixture of the old and the new.” – New York Times

Oct 23 all-day

Happy 25th Anniversary, LEAFers!

It was this week, 25 years ago that we first came together to gather, share cultural experiences and build community at the majestic Lake Eden. We started as a local festival and have grown into an international nonprofit rooted in the belief that cultural exposure, proximity and equitable access can bring a community together. Our mission is to cultivate a thriving global community generated by the power of cultural CURIOSITY, CONNECTION, and PRESERVATION through global music and ARTS EDUCATION and experiences. That mission is always growing, never finished and we can’t do it without you.

While we won’t be able to come together in-person the way we have in the past, we are determined to keep the LEAF Love flowing strong! We are bringing back V-LEAF on October 23-25, 2020 for a weekend of virtual music, conversation, cultural arts and more! As you prepare for the next great digital LEAF experience, check out “the BEST 25 years of LEAF PLAYLIST” by Martin Anderson of WNCW and 20 year LEAF MC.
