12/28 The Blackout Diaries is BACK!
What: The Blackout Blackout Diaries

During this year’s holiday break, forget all the craziness and bring the whole (drinking age) family & friends out to hear tales of triumph (but mostly hilarious tragedy) while drinking heavily. Starting its roots in Chicago, and hosted by the hilarious Alex Joyce, The Blackout Diaries is an interactive comedy show were standup comedians, plus ‘regular’ people (cops, firefighters, teachers, etc) tell true drinking stories with photos from the events. Then you, the audience, can ask questions.
The Blackout Diaries has been selected as ‘Critics’ Choice in The Chicago Reader, Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times and more. Segments from the show have appeared on Comedy Central, NPR, Sirius Radio and more. A review once described the show as “a reverse AA meeting”. We still don’t know if that was a positive review or not, but we feel it sums the show up well.
Hosted by Alex Joyce. Alex has been performing stand up comedy for 12 years. After graduating from The University of Alabama he moved to Chicago where he studied at the Second City Training Center for Sketch Writing. He is co producer and performer in The Blackout Diaries, a weekly show at The Lincoln Lodge Theater where comedians tell wild drinking stories and the audience gets to ask questions. Joyce returns to Asheville regularly to visit family and perform. Joyce lives in Chicago.
The speakeasy inspired hideaway offers a cozy space for show-goers to relax and enjoy a beverage during the concert. Boasting over 200 different Bourbons and Whiskeys, alongside a myriad of other spirits, it is a must-visit for cocktail lovers and Bourbon sippers alike. Pulp will also open various other nights to feature local artists and “Slice of Life” open-mic comedy nights. Join us for an Astrological Forecast from Spiritsong Mary O’Shannon
who says to get ready for revolutionary change as Pluto enters Aquarius for the first time in 250 years. Spiritsong will open our 2023 AWE series with an exploration of the astrological influences we’ll be experiencing in the exciting new year. Her presentation will delve into how we can deal with these new energies and will be followed by a Q & A period.
Spiritsong has been studying astrology for over 40 years. She has guided others as a professional astrologer for 17 years. She’s also a healing facilitator, and uses modalities such as guided imagery, energy healing, and aromatherapy in her sessions. These are sometimes combined with astrology readings. Spiritsong is also a licensed minister, spiritual counselor and ceremonialist. She often uses the gifts of music in her healing work, which she calls an “Inner Journey”. In all of her service, Spiritsong delights in guiding and uplifting others into their most joyful life. She looks forward to sharing some of the most powerful astrological influences we’ll be experiencing in 2023 and how we may use them to create a better world within and around us!

This 6-week workshop series is inspired by Richard Rohr’s, “Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps”. Throughout this series, we will explore The Twelve Steps as described in this powerful book and how they connect with Spirituality and Yoga. Join instructor, Rosie Mulford, as she takes you on a journey to gain a deeper understanding of how the ancient principles in the Gospels and the modern-day Twelve Steps can help to free those who struggle with addiction.
Interweaving yogic philosophy and asana to “connect the dots,” this 6-week workshop will include discussion, movement, pranayama and relaxation.
This course is open to all recovery paths or anyone affected by addiction and no prior yoga experience is required.
We will unpack 3 major principles of addiction:
1. We all have a universal addiction to the way we think 2. We must recognize that we are already that which we seek to become and we already have that which we desire 3. We need to rid ourselves of the heaviness of the ego in order to see what we are and what we have
Samantha Ruddy tells jokes, writes funny stuff, and has strong opinions on Mountain Dew iterations.
Until the show’s cancellation in July of 2022, Samantha was a full-time digital producer and copywriter at Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Samantha’s work at Full Frontal included writing straight to camera promos for Sam Bee, crafting funny copy for the show’s social media accounts, and contributing to scripts for web series including the Emmy Award-nominated Beeing At Home.
Samantha has performed standup on both The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She’s also been heard on NPR and appeared in videos for Comedy Central and Marvel. She has performed at comedy festivals like New York Comedy Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Her debut comedy album, Logging Out, was named one of the best comedy albums of 2020 by NPR and is the reason Paste Magazine referred to her as a “joke machine.”
Samantha is a skilled joke writer and her comedy is clever, disarming, and sly. Her writing can be read on Collegehumor, The Cut, and Reductress. After realizing that getting a decent SAT score wasn’t Kenyon’s true calling in life, he started stand up in high school and has gone on to open for Todd Glass, Tim Dillon, Ian Edwards, and Big Jay Oakerson. He has also appeared on Sirius XM. Kenyon is a regular at the Laugh Factory Chicago and Zanie’s. Growing up biracial with disabled parents, Kenyon brings a unique perspective to the stage that has left audiences at clubs and festivals in ruins all over the country.

JD Scranton is a regular at Goodnight’s Comedy Club in his hometown of Raleigh, NC but has performed all over the Southeast. RPB is a formidable improv comedy group consisting of Tom Chalmers, Mondy Carter, Karen Stobbe, Kim Richardson and Josh Batenhorst.
This is how it works: RPBs will ask the audience for suggestions and then they make that come to technicolor life. Get ready to be a part of the experience because this show will push the envelope of ridiculous fun.

Roman Fraden: Romanis a Los Angeles-based comedian and a regular performer at classic Hollywood venues including The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Hollywood Improv. He has trained with Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Theatre, performed in various ensemble casts in film and on stage, and has opened for Mark Normand, Margaret Cho, and Patton Oswald. His one man show ‘Back In The Closet’ made it’s world premiere at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018. He currently is living in Asheville while still performing everywhere.
Host Cody Hughes: Cody is a comedian who cut his teeth in Chicago and Atlanta. He is now based out of West North Carolina and tours the Southeast. He has opened for Lewis Black, John Oliver and Maria Bamford among others and hosts the regular Slice of Life Comedy shows at The Orange Peel’s Pulp Lounge.

About Slice of Life Comedy: Slice of Life Comedy is owned and run by long standing Ashevillian Michele Scheve. Michele was the Founder and Publisher of the hit satire newspaper “The Asheville Disclaimer” in 2002 (till 2015). She also Hosts one of 103.3 Asheville FM’ longest running and most popular shows, “Slumber Party AVL”, which began in 2011. In addition to these established platforms, Michele also Co-Founded and Co-Owns Buzz Radio Asheville, which features only local music and comedy 24/7. Slice of Life Comedy began as a partnership, between Michele and comedian Kelly Rowe, doing live shows at Pulp Lounge in 2010, highlighting local up-and-coming comics through Open Mic events. Gianmarco Soresi is an actor, stand-up comic, and writer based in New York City. He won critical acclaim for his stand-up special and documentary Shelf Life directed by Emmy Award winner Andy Buck, currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and is the host of the popular podcast The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi. He appeared in the Billy Crystal/Tiffany Haddish film Here Today, and has appeared in roles on Bonding for Netflix, Deception, Blue Bloods and in the feature film Hustlers opposite Jennifer Lopez. He has hosted programs for IBM and MTV and was the spokesperson for General Electric.

Host Cody Hughes: Cody is a comedian who cut his teeth in Chicago and Atlanta. He is now based out of West North Carolina and tours the Southeast. He has opened for Lewis Black, John Oliver and Maria Bamford among others and hosts the regular Slice of Life Comedy shows at The Orange Peel’s Pulp Lounge.

About Slice of Life Comedy: Slice of Life Comedy is owned and run by long standing Ashevillian Michele Scheve. Michele was the Founder and Publisher of the hit satire newspaper “The Asheville Disclaimer” in 2002 (till 2015). She also Hosts one of 103.3 Asheville FM’ longest running and most popular shows, “Slumber Party AVL”, which began in 2011. In addition to these established platforms, Michele also Co-Founded and Co-Owns Buzz Radio Asheville, which features only local music and comedy 24/7. Slice of Life Comedy began as a partnership, between Michele and comedian Kelly Rowe, doing live shows at Pulp Lounge in 2010, highlighting local up-and-coming comics through Open Mic events.
