Asheville Sessions featuring Peggy Ratusz and Friends
Jul 21 @ 7:00 pm
Isis Music Hall--Lounge

The Asheville Lounge Sessions

The Isis Music Hall will be hosting a brand-new weekly series called The Asheville Lounge Sessions. Featuring and focusing on area vocalists, the 90 minute dinner and a showcase will take place in the intimate upstairs lounge.

Veteran guitarist and accomplished songwriter, Jonathan Pearlman who once hosted the area’s premiere and time-honored Thursday night Jazz Jam in downtown Asheville, will reprise his band leading role for this series. He will direct a rotating-member house band that will back up local vocalists performing various styles of music each Thursday night beginning at 7pm.

Opening the showcase each week, and serving as MC will be Best In Blues Chanteuse, Peggy Ratusz. While the crux of each month of Thursdays will feature singers in the upstairs lounge, occasionally Jonathan and Peggy will switch things up and become hosts of The Asheville Jam Session starting at 8:30pm downstairs on the main stage. For these nights, area musicians and musician-vocalists will jam the night away for 2 hours of impromptu, extemporaneous Blues and Jazz music!

THE MOTH Presents: Asheville StorySLAM – “Nature”
Jul 21 @ 7:30 pm
The Grey Eagle

– FULLY SEATED SHOW

THE MOTH resumes their recurring monthly Asheville StorySLAM at The Grey Eagle on the third Thursday of each month through December at 7:30pm! This month’s theme is….

NATURE: Prepare a five-minute story about life on earth. From the great, wide-open outdoors to the wee, uncharted interiors of the human mind. Think: salt of the earth, strong as an ox, sturdy as an oak, peas in a pod, a thorn in my side, treated like dirt! An inevitable force to be reckoned with. Beautiful, punishing, restorative.

The Dirty Grass Players
Jul 21 @ 8:30 pm
Isis Music Hall--The Main Stage

The Dirty Grass Players, a four-piece new-grass band from Baltimore, is known for having one toe-tappin’ foot in traditional bluegrass while pushing boundaries with their blazing musicianship. Composed of Connor Murray on bass, Alex Berman on vocals & banjo, Ben Kolakowski with the guitar & vocals, and Ryan Rogers on mandolin, they have been bringing their growing fanbase a down and dirty performance for over five years.

Their ability to seamlessly transition from down-home bluegrass to spirited improvisation makes each performance unique. Mix in some Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, or a dash of southern rock and you’ll quickly understand what they mean by “Dirty Grass”.

Entering into their sixth year together, The Dirty Grass Players just released their 2nd studio album, “Beneath the Woodpile”. Put together with alluring harmonies, lyrics, and melodies, the band presents a sound precisely at the crossroads of traditional and progressive bluegrass. This isn’t just another run-of-the-mill bluegrass album or band; it’s cathartic and dirty grass.

Jack Marion + the Pearl Snap Prophets : Sam Foster : Vaden Landers
Jul 22 @ 8:30 pm
Isis Music Hall--The Main Stage

General Admission Standing Show :: Some Balcony Seating

Jack Marion and The Pearl Snap Prophets bring a youthful-exuberance and high-country swagger to the doorsteps of modern americana music. The North Carolina-based band has spent the past 4 years in honky-tonks, bars, and mountain roadhouses, collecting fodder for songs along the way. There are songs about living; written in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They are straight-from-the-hip and straight-from-the heart. No bull-honky. All truth. But they are just as catchy as any songwriting-factory-formed mega hit that will ever curse your ear.”

Sam Foster is a little bit country, a whole lotta rock and roll. While drawing much inspiration from legends of country music past and present, Foster’s sound can be more broadly described as rock. His roots run deep into the vein of American music, and he’s continually inspired by folk, soul, rock, and rhythm and blues. After releasing his debut solo album Rough Edges (The First Cuts) in 2015, followed by 2018’s Hardened Hearts, Foster formed Whiskey Foxtrot with singer-songwriter Seth Williams. The result was 2020’s Hard Lines & Headlights – the first and only studio offering from the outfit.

Vaden Landers pens songs that evoke the golden era of country music. With a voice often compared to Hank Sr, this former train-hopper/busker gained a reputation in Asheville NC as one of the city’s finest performers.  Billed as “The Yodeling Country Bluesman”, he possesses a rare authenticity that carries on the classic tradition.

Robin Bullock + Steve Baughman
Jul 23 @ 8:00 pm
White Horse Black Mountain

Robin Bullock & Steve Baughman: July 23, 2022

  • The magnificently rich sound of two acoustic guitars conjures up the ancient musical landscapes of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany in the hands of Celtic guitar masters Steve Baughman and Robin Bullock.
  • These two virtuosos together in concert, surrounded by guitars (and the occasional cittern, mandolin or banjo) and completely relaxed with their audience, form an irresistible onstage synergy. Traditional airs, jigs and reels blend with the timeless harp compositions of Ireland’s legendary bard Turlough O’Carolan, hypnotic Breton dances, rollicking Appalachian fiddle tunes and soulful meditations from both sides of the Atlantic, as two of North America’s leading Celtic guitarists join forces to create a uniquely beautiful sonic experience.

John Ford and Glenn Gin

John Ford is a traveling blues singer songwriter from Cincinnati, and regularly performs in places like St. Louis, Mobile, Alabama and Clarksdale, Mississippi. He has shared the stage with the likes of Cedric Burnside and Ruthie Foster. In 2012 he recorded in Room 414 of the Gunter Hotel, in San Antonio, Texas — the same room where Robert Johnson recorded such epic songs as “Sweet Home Chicago” and “Crossroad Blues”, back in 1936.

It’s pre-war blues, country blues…..downhome blues and the STORY behind the music.
