We invite you to be a part of a no-holds-barred evening of “live” lip sync performances and fun to benefit the Charles Lea Center Foundation! Our inaugural Lip Sync Battle Spartanburg raised over $400,000 for our exciting Lake Blalock project (see below)! The second annual event will build on that success and be a night to remember – Spartanburg’s own version of the American reality competition. Local talent will wow you on stage with amazing performances. Teams from local businesses and organizations will bring their best costumes and moves, set to songs they select, as they battle it out in hopes of becoming the night’s champions! Lip Sync Battle Spartanburg brings the most entertaining and unforgettable fundraising experience to the ‘Burg!!
The funds raised by this event will be used for an exciting new project – the Charles Lea Center Nature Preserve at Lake Blalock. Recognizing the invaluable advantages access to outdoor experiences offers those we serve, the CLC plans to develop a nature preserve with specific features for those with disabilities. The center was recently gifted an eight-acre parcel of land at Lake Blalock in northern Spartanburg County that provides the perfect setting for the preserve. The proposed CLC Nature Preserve will provide fully accessible trails as well as an event center, picnic tables, shelters, a boat dock with adaptive features and more, so individuals of all ages and abilities can enjoy the great outdoors. This project will greatly enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities of all ages. Funding for this project, expected to be completed in 3-5 years, will be fully independent of CLC operating and capital funds.

Join them to celebrate a greener future for the Reuter Family YMCA! You’re invited to a ribbon cutting to mark the installation of solar panels on the facility roof. This project was made possible by YMCA members Pete and Pat Wallenborn. Their generous gift helps the Y take a significant step toward sustainability and demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship. The Wallenborns will be recognized at the event. Attendees include representatives from Sundance Solar, the YMCA, and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. Light refreshments will be served. Meet at the front entrance of the Reuter Family YMCA on the Biltmore Park side. In case of rain, the event will be held in the lobby.

Eve launched and leads Small Change, a real estate equity crowdfunding portal to help fund transformational real estate projects. Jones Park Playground was a treasured community park used by families from across the city of Asheville. Unfortunately, it was removed without a replacement plan in September of 2021. Members of the community began working immediately to find a solution to get this playground rebuilt with donated funds and labor from the community. In this process the park was renamed Candace Pickens Memorial Park. Candace played in this park and brought her son to play. She was tragically killed here in 2016. October 4-8 hundreds of volunteers from neighborhoods across the city and county will be giving their time to help bring this playground back. Working side by side we are building more than just a playground, we are building community and connections that will last lifetimes.

Please join the Housing Assistance Corporation for a day on the green to support workforce and affordable housing initiatives in Henderson County and surrounding areas.
Check-in will begin at 10:30am with a shotgun start at 11:30am

Support Asheville GreenWorks’ Urban Forestry program by planting a native Paw Paw grown in our nursery to celebrate the release of The Hop’s Paw Paw ice cream.
You’ll need a mate to pollinate! – If you don’t have a Paw Paw already planted at your home, you may want to consider purchasing 2 from us. We will choose two different genetic strains, which is needed for cross-pollination to produce fruit. Paw Paws are self-infertile, so for good fruit set, each variety must be fertilized with pollen from a different variety of Paw Paw tree.
