About Historic Fernihurst Mansion:
Fernihurst Mansion was constructed c1875 for Colonel John Kerr Connally atop Vernon Hill, the highest point in what was once the little town of Victoria. The giant 25-room Italianate-style home was built from bricks handmade from clay mined on the property. Over the next half century, the owners nearly doubled the size of the mansion until it became “a 50 room monstrosity” as one write remarked. In 1933, the deserted monstrosity was acquired by John P. Curran, who removed 38 rooms and reverted the house back to its original structure. AB-Tech purchased the property in the 1970s and the mansion is now home to AB-Tech’s culinary institute.

Welcome to the return of the Gateway to the Smokies Half Marathon in beautiful Waynesville, North Carolina. We are excited to bring this race back with the original course and start/finish lines. Bring your best human friend or prized pooch for a charity hike up Bearwallow Mountain! Hike the 1-mile trail to the grassy bald of Bearwallow Mountain with fellow conservation-loving pet owners to enjoy the panoramic views. Proceeds benefit Conserving Carolina and the Blue Ridge Humane Society. Pre-register by March 8 to receive a t-shirt!
Registration for this event is $20 and includes an event t-shirt when signed up by March 8. There is no registration cut off and day-of registrations will be accepted.
