Thank you Suzanne Camarata of The Gallery at Flat Rock whose Porch Portraits sessions raised $2835 for the Playhouse! “Getting to know you…” Meaningfully connect and collaborate with young artists from across the country in this virtual musical theatre class featuring Broadway songs about friendship! In high-energy zoom classes combining singing, acting, and movement, students will hone their theatrical skills while developing a virtual musical revue shared with friends and family at the end of the semester.

By turns soul-searching and hilarious, the play sings with truth.
Writes McNally, “I think I wanted to write about what it’s like to be a gay man at this particular moment in our history. I think I wanted to tell my friends how much they’ve meant to me. I think I wanted to tell everyone else who we are when they aren’t around.”

Love! Valour! Compassion! was the first show ever produced by Different Strokes! We re-visit it now in celebration of our 10-year anniversary!

Earlier this fall, husband and wife team Michael and Brenda Lilly gathered up a few friends and co-workers to create a short film. With the permission of playwright Tom Huey, Brenda worked with director Joshua Russell to adapt The Man in the Bright Nightgown – which she had previously directed in 35below, and which had starred Michael – into a screenplay. And now we get to stream the premiere! PLUS – after the premiere, stick around for a behind the scenes look at how a one-person play was adapted to a three-person film!

A play from away! Explore improvisation, characterization, voice and speech, costume design, and more as you create an original virtual play! With an emphasis on creativity and personal expression, students will meet in weekly live online classes to develop, memorize, and film their role in the play. At the end of the semester, each actor’s part will be edited together to create a virtual performance!

Lights… Camera… Acting! Explore the fundamentals of on-camera acting in a nine week course led by professional actor and producer Marlane Barnes. Best known for her work on Sons of Anarchy and Mad Men, Marlane will coach actors through scenes from real-world TV and film scripts. Learn on-camera tips and technique, scale your performances from stage to screen, explore your type, and hone your on-camera and self-tape skills. No experience required.

With an emphasis on material selection and preparation, resumes, etiquette, and self-taping, students will workshop audition-cut songs and leave with fresh, ready-to-use material for virtual or in-person auditions. Whether you’re preparing for a school show, a local theatre production, or college pre-screens, this class will leave you feeling confident and prepared for your next big audition.
