GEOFF TATE’S BIG ROCK SHOW
Jan 9 @ 7:30 pm
Gunter Theatre

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Geoff Tate is best known for his 30-plus years as the creative and driving force behind the progressive metal band Queensryche. Tate is regarded as one of the most skilled vocalists in the genre with hundreds of modern, popular artists citing him and his former band as a major influence. Since Queensryche’s inception with Tate at the helm, the band has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, received four Grammy nominations, had their music featured in three feature films, and played to sold-out audiences the world over.

Combining social consciousness and expertly crafted lyrics with high-energy, melodically complex music, Queensryche became internationally recognized as the thinking man’s rock band. The group’s first three albums met their critical acclaim, with their landmark concept album Operation: Mindcrime reaching RIAA Platinum success. Their follow-up album Empire featured the wildly popular single “Silent Lucidity,” which Tate and the band performed live at the 34th Annual Grammy Awards® alongside a supporting orchestra.

At the end of 2012, Tate released Kings & Thieves, his first solo album in over a decade. Two years later, Tate and his bandmates reunited for a farewell tour as Queensryche before announcing that the band would change its name to Operation: Mindcrime for future tours and recordings. Tate began working on his most ambitious works to date at the end of 2014 – a trilogy of entirely new concept albums that have all been followed up with extensive international tours.

IRISH MUSIC CIRCLE
Jan 11 @ 7:00 pm
White Horse Black Mountain

The traditional music of the mountains of North Carolina traces its roots back to the Celtic music of Ireland and Scotland. Traditional Celtic music is still played on the porches and in the pubs of the Celtic lands… and also throughout the southern Appalachian mountains.

In true pub fashion, White Horse Black Mountain hosts a traditional Irish style session twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesdays, starting at 7pm….

……..and there is NO COVER CHARGE.

Sessions are in many ways the heart and soul of Irish traditional music, a place for players to share tunes and socialize. It’s not a performance, but rather an informal situation in which listeners are welcome to participate, whether offering encouragement, singing along on a chorus, or asking questions about the music and instruments. White Horse sessions regularly draws players from as far away as Waynesville, Cullowhee, Rutherfordton and even Clayton, Georgia.

The sessions are hosted by Richard and Melinda Halford.

Drop by for a beer or a cup of tea and get uplifted by some great traditional tunes and a few new songs.

Come join us in a long musical tradition spanning hundreds of years.

SEXBRUISE?

Sexbruise? is a satirical pop band from Charleston, SC that combines elements of improvisation, electronic music, poppy hooks, and audience participation to create an unforgettable live experience. Despite their extreme wealth and lavish lifestyle, Sexbruise? grew up on a dirt road right down the street from Pappy’s Hardware Shop, and subsequently is very in tune with the struggles and plight of middle america.

Sexbruise? has been featured at Sweetwater 420 Fest, Hulaween, Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival, Floyd Fest, and Resonance Fest, and will be announcing other pending festies, assuming this damn virus doesn’t fuck us at the last second again.

Sexbruise?’s shows can be described as a giant party. The tunes are memorable, the stage presence exciting, and the antics unpredictable. And there are snacks. Thrown from the stage. The band has prepared pancakes and pizza on stage, brought out dancers in animal costumes, hired fake demonstrators to protest their shows, and many more other cool things.

VICTORIA VICTORIA with CHARLIE HUNTER
Victoria Victoria’s new album, “To The Wayside,” was released on Sept. 9, 2022—completing a beautifully fresh and alluring musical masterpiece that’s been in the making since 2020.

Each of the album’s nine songs is a gem, mined through a magical collaboration between Victoria Victoria front woman Tori Elliott, producer/engineer Stephen Lee Price, Jr., and virtuoso guitarist, Charlie Hunter, who plays guitar and bass on all of the tracks.

Elliott, who brings an innate effervescence and joyfulness to her live performances, brings equally insightful lyrics and contagious melodies to this album, as she explores and dissects issues surrounding modern female identity.

“Songwriting helps me untangle what’s going on emotionally,” said the Winston Salem, N.C.-based singer-songwriter.  “It almost feels like doing a puzzle.”

“By the time that I got in the studio with Charlie, it just felt like an arrival, musically,” she said. “It felt like my voice was sitting where I always wanted it to be sitting.”

Hunter says Elliott’s music draws in people of all ages and walks of life with intriguing narratives, songwriting, singing and instrumentation.

“Tori’s work is remarkable because it accomplishes the feat of being accessible but really honest and authentic at the same time, which is rare,” Hunter said. “I just loved being a part of her process.”
Victoria Victoria will tour in January 2023 with Tori Elliot on lead vocals, Charlie Hunter on Hybrid guitar, drums, and two back up singers.

Jan 14 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Story Palor

Lonesome Station is a live music production company based in Asheville, NC that hosts events in non-traditional spaces with the aim of bringing unique and intimate experiences to both artists and audiences.

Michael Flynn is a singer/songwriter based in Saluda NC. His songs have been featured in movies and shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Shameless, and on commercials for useful products like cars and shampoo. He’s also won a few awards for songwriting, including 1st runner up for the John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship way back in 2001.  His band Slow Runner has released 5 full length albums, an EP, and several singles. They spent some time on one of SonyBMG’s labels and have toured internationally with acts like The Avett Brothers, Josh Ritter, Built to Spill, William Fitzsimmons, and many others. As a solo artist Flynn has released three full length albums including last year’s ’Survive With Me,’ which Atwood Magazine praised as ‘a soundtrack to the human spirit.’

Hannah Kaminer is a folk/Americana artist based in Asheville, NC. Raised in small towns in western North Carolina, she fuses echoes of Appalachian traditions with wistful, Americana-style songwriting.

Kaminer’s songs have been recognized in the finals of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest (MerleFest 2019), with a Regional Artist Project Grant from a coalition of NC arts councils, and by Asheville’s Brown Bag Songwriting Competition (winning grand prize and crowd favorite).

Kaminer has released two studio albums, Acre by Acre (2015) and Heavy Magnolias (2018). Kaminer co-produced Heavy Magnolias with award-winning engineer Julian Dreyer. In 2020, she pivoted to produce Music for Quarantine, connecting musicians to virtual gigs performed for loved ones in isolation.

As of winter 2022, Kaminer is working on a new album with her band (Hannah & The Wistfuls), to be released in 2023

Song “All for You” topped the adult alternative charts during the summer of 1997 and the success propelled their album to platinum status.

ABBEY ROAD LIVE! Performing the entire “Abbey Road” album and more!
Jan 14 @ 8:00 pm
The Orange Peel

Come and experience some Beatles magic as Abbey Road LIVE! delivers its signature performance: the entire Abbey Road album, start-to-finish. Featuring classics such as Come Together, Here Comes The Sun and the epic Side 2 medley, Abbey Road has been widely recognized as the Fab Four’s finest musical work. And that’s half of the evening: fans will be treated to another set of Beatles tunes spanning the band’s 8-year, 200 song career.

Abbey Road LIVE! is not your typical look-alike Beatle tribute act. Don’t expect mop-top wigs and phony British accents. Rather, this band is about bringing some of the more complex Beatles music to life in a raw & spirited fashion, while remaining true to the original recordings.

And the band’s creative exuberance is infectious. At a typical Abbey Road LIVE! show, audiences young and old can found gleefully singing along with every word, many relishing the chance to hear this monumental music performed live — something the Beatles themselves never did, as they stopped touring in 1966, before many of their best albums were released.
