Heat Mapping Study – Volunteer
Jun 14 all-day
Greater Asheville Area

GreenWorks will lead a NOAA heat mapping campaign of the greater Asheville area this summer.

But we can’t do it without volunteers like you!

If you choose to join the fun, you’ll received an assigned route to drive or bike using specialized sensors to collect temperature and humidity data. You’ll have one hour to complete your assigned route.

The heat data you collect will be translated into maps we’ll use to identify the hottest streets, and ultimately, find ideal tree planting locations in the neighborhoods that need them most. You’ll be helping Asheville take a huge step forward on its road to climate-resilience.

  • Volunteers will meet GreenWorks staff, pick up their materials, go drive their routes, and return their equipment
  • Volunteers will work in two-person teams to drive their one-hour routes.
  • These same routes will be driven three times in the same day; 6-7am, 3-4pm, and 7-8pm
  • Routes will be approximately 10 square miles each.

A limited number of volunteers will be needed. Volunteers may be prioritized if their neighborhood is included in a mapping route.

We don’t yet have the exact date of the mapping campaign day just yet.
The exact date will be chosen dependent on certain weather conditions.
GreenWorks will work with the National Weather Service to select one of the hottest days of the summer.
We will also schedule a rain day, just in case.
Once you sign up below, we will keep you posted as the planning for the mapping campaign day evolves.

TERPSICORPS THEATRE OF DANCE PRESENTS Cleopatra
Jul 27 @ 8:00 pm
Diana Wortham Theatre

Recommended for ages 12+ (adult content).

Truly a one-of-a-kind dance theater spectacle, Heather Maloy’s ‘Cleopatra’ is the crowning jewel of Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance’s 20th Anniversary Season. Featuring a cast of critically acclaimed dancers from ballet and contemporary companies across the US and abroad, the story of history’s first sex symbol is filled with intrigue, violence, splendor, love and tragedy.

The innovative dance theater’s most lavish production to date, ‘Cleopatra’ embodies the opulence and wonder of Cleopatra’s Alexandria, a city whose riches and scientific innovations were centuries ahead of their time. Runway worthy costumes with a contemporary flair inspired by ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt, plus a two story set, multiple projection screens and the incomparable Terpsicorps dancers bring to life a true story more exciting than any piece of fiction.

Originally intending to title the work Antony & Cleopatra, Maloy’s research into the history of Egypt’s last Pharaoh introduced her to a woman much too complex, powerful and brilliant to share a title with any man. A scholar and scientist, diplomat and single mother, lover and calculating strategist… Cleopatra seduced the most powerful men in the world with her wit, intellect and sexuality. Let yourself be seduced. We dare you!

Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance has been producing cutting edge, world class dance in Asheville since 2003. Utilizing hand picked professional dancers in the summers when they are off contract from critically acclaimed dance companies, has given the dance lovers in our community the opportunity to enjoy performances of a caliber seldom seen outside of major metropolitan cities.
