Recreate Asheville Community Workshop

Help develop a community-powered comprehensive plan to guide Asheville Parks & Recreation’s decisions for the next 10-15 years to connect, fix, build, and preserve recreation programs and parkland. Collaborating on the Recreate Asheville plan to guide programs, sports and leisure spaces, and parks for future generations is an important opportunity for Ashevillians to create a long-term vision and help inform how projects are prioritized to meet the modern needs of our city – from major improvements to existing parks to strategies that use recreation programs to build stronger neighborhoods.

Recreate Asheville Drop-in Community Workshops
Asheville residents can share ideas at a number of stations during drop-in format events. Activities for school age children provided at workshops by APR recreation specialists. Complimentary transit vouchers are available to attend a workshop via ART buses (please contact [email protected] or 828-259-5800 to request one). Spanish language interpretation and translation services available on October 5, 6, and 12.

The 11th Annual Haunted Trail

Asheville Plays is excited to present the 11th annual Haunted Trail, Asheville’s only family friendly haunt! This event is ideal for Halloween lovers of all ages, 3-12 being the suggested age range. The Adventure Center of Asheville will host this one of a kind live outdoor theatrical experience where guests are promised an entirely immersive and interactive spooky night out while also ensuring no contact. Asheville Plays creates a show with a unique perspective on Halloween fun with 15 live action scenes for guests to watch and enjoy. For younger guests who still aren’t sure about being scared, even for fun, a “Sweet Peek Tour’ is offered nightly at 6:45 pm. The trail is actor free at this time so that littles and parents can take a guided tour of the scenes to decide if they would like to re enter the line and receive the full show. The Treetop Adventure Park Aerial Glow Trail is available for guests 4 years or older to enjoy at this event! Climb on two aerial trails while they are illuminated with thousands of colorful twinkle and laser lights. If you want to enjoy both of these amazing activities, combo passes are available and WILL sell out, so make sure you reserve your tickets early! *The Haunted Trail does not sell out, however the entrance closes at 9 pm. Don’t miss PIRATES COVE! Fall Kids Fishing Tournament

Buncombe County Parks & Recreation is excited to announce the 2023 Fall Kids Fishing Tournament which will be taking place at the beautiful Lake Julian Park on Oct. 7, from 8 a.m.-noon. Families are invited to join us for this semi-annual event where the love of nature and joy of fishing unite!

This event is for youth ages 15 and under. Young anglers will be divided into three age brackets for the competition: 0-5, 6-10, and 11-15. Participants can win prizes for the biggest fish, the smallest fish, and the most fish caught. Each fish caught must be brought to the designated measuring station one at a time. After measurement, the fish will be released back into the lake.

For a registration fee of $10, each young angler will receive a bucket, bait, and an assortment of snacks and refreshing beverages that will be available throughout the morning. Pre-registration is recommended but walk-up registration will be available on the day of the tournament. Registration will open at 7 a.m. Fishing begins promptly at 8 a.m. and will end at 11 a.m. Prizes will be handed out at 11:30 a.m. Winners must be present to accept the prize.?

No fishing license is required for residents under 16 years old. No boat fishing is allowed by competitors. All competitors must be accompanied by an adult, but the adult may not cast or reel. Only one fishing pole may be in the water per participant. Competitors are required to bring their own fishing poles and tackle.

Get ready to enjoy moments with fellow anglers, excitement, and friendly competition!

  • Registration is $10 and includes bait, a bucket, snacks, and refreshing drinks.
