In 2025 Shindig on the Green, which features a stage show and informal jam sessions around the park, continues at its original location — formerly known as City County Plaza, now transformed into the new Pack Square Park. Locals and visitors alike come together downtown “along about sundown,” or at 7:00pm for those who wear a watch, until 10:00p.m. Concessions are available. Don’t miss the CMS Carolinas début of the nationally acclaimed period instrument ensemble Les Délices, performing an innovative and thoughtful program celebrating Bohemian composers from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Bohemian Rhapsody celebrates the music of Bohemian composers from the late 18th and early 19th centuries – a time when the Czech lands were provinces of the Habsburg Empire. Rarely-heard chamber music by Czech and Moravian composers Franz Krommer, Georg Druschetzky, and Katerina Victoria Dusikova-Cianchettin will illuminate a little-known history that explores underlying themes of separation, nostalgia, and homecoming. Also featured is a recently commissioned arrangement of Czech and Moravian folk songs by New York City-based composer and harpsichordist Nathan Mondry that asks, what might it have sounded like if these late-18th and early-19th century composers from the Czech lands had been able to more openly celebrate their heritage in their music? These fun and fascinating works for oboe, violin, viola, and cello are paired with Mozart’s sublime oboe quartet, KV370.

John R Miller is a true hyphenate artist: singer-songwriter-picker. Every song on his thrilling debut solo album, Depreciated, is lush with intricate wordplay and haunting imagery, as well as being backed by a band that is on fire. One of his biggest long-time fans is roots music favorite Tyler Childers, who says he’s “a well-travelled wordsmith mapping out the world he’s seen, three chords at a time.” Miller is somehow able to transport us to a shadowy honkytonk and get existential all in the same line with his tightly written compositions. Miller’s own guitar-playing is on fine display here along with vocals that evoke the white-waters of the Potomac River rumbling below the high ridges of his native Shenandoah Valley.
Ryan Adams is a seven-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter praised as “one of rock’s most talented songwriters”.
Formerly fronting rock-americana groups Whiskeytown and Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Adams has the ability to connect with audiences across a variety of different mediums.

In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Footprint Project, Land of Sky Regional Council of Governments and many other local partners stepped in to deploy solar and battery storage microgrid systems with a focus on restoring power, telecommunications, and clean drinking water to communities across Western North Carolina. In the months since this storm devastated the region, these partners continue to deploy clean energy solutions with more than 60 operational battery and solar projects on the ground serving North Carolinians. As part of plans for long-term regional resiliency, these partner organizations are working with local, state, and federal entities to deploy more clean energy solutions to serve the community in these next phases of recovery and to prepare for future storms. Join us for an evening of music at Sierra Nevada’s Mill River taproom to enjoy local artists and support regional recovery through clean energy solutions. Proceeds from this event to benefit Footprint Project and Land of Sky Regional Council of Governments and their efforts to serve Western North Carolina.
The event will also feature short remarks from local leaders and recovery organizations about efforts made to date and future recovery needs that can be supported through clean energy solutions. AMPlify Appalachia will also kick off a recovery summit in the Asheville area hosted by Footprint Project and Land of Sky Regional Council.

The Swell Season is back. After reconvening for a limited number of sold-out shows in March 2022, followed by a more extensive US tour in August 2023, the duo returns with new music. A studio session that started out as an effort to create a couple new singles to bring with them on tour, ended up yielding a full-length album, fittingly titled Forward. Although The Swell Season released a standalone single The Answer Is Yes in June 2023, Forward will be their first full length album in 16 years.The album consists of 8 tracks written by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, who take turns singing the lead.
On July 31, August 1, and 2, 2025, a different show will be presented live on stage each evening allowing you to appreciate the talent and dedication of the hundreds of musicians, dancers, and storytellers who are preserving the traditions of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. These traditions involve not only the hand-clapping, toe-tapping rhythms of Bluegrass, the style and stories of century-old ballads, the high energy of clogging, the elegance of Big Circle Mountain Smooth Dance, the fun and entertainment of storytelling, but also include an awareness of the hardships and trials that have brought us to this place and time.

The great music couple, Clara and Robert Schumann, called Leipzig home from 1840-1844. In 1842, Robert Schumann devoted his compositional energies to his so called “Year of Chamber Music”, which produced among other great works, his piano quintet. Clara met Robert in Leipzig and Clara composed her 3 Romances in 1853, dedicating them to the great violinist, Joseph Joachim. English composer Dame Ethel Smyth studied in Leipzig several decades later and composed her magnificent string trio while in this cultural hub.

Join your host Kristin Hillegas, for a one-hour Serenity Sound Bath and experience a deeply immersive, full-body sound and vibrational experience. A sound bath can cleanse your soul, restore your balance, surround you with peace and tranquility and stimulate healing.
Note: Please bring a yoga mat/pillow/blanket since you will be lying on the floor. Wear warm, comfortable, and flexible clothing.
The Sound Bath will take place upstairs in the Education Building. Choose your space starting at 1:00 PM, doors close promptly at 1:15 PM.
This Sound Bath is offered on a sliding scale of $10-20
Accessible parking is available in the Center for Spiritual Living Asheville upper parking lot. The entrance to the upper parking lot is off of S. Bear Creek Rd between Science of Mind Way and Sand Hill Rd.
There is a boardwalk from the upper parking lot to the building entrance.

In 1964 and 1965, a young Bill Kirchen made two pilgrimages from his home in Ann Arbor to the Newport Folk Festivals. Among many other wondrous things, he saw Dylan debut Mr. Tambourine Man in ’64, then go full on electric in ’65. Bill swears what he saw and heard at those Festivals ruined him for normal work. Bill brings his ace Texas band for songs and reminiscences from Dylan at the ground breaking Newport Festival shows in ’64 and ’65.
UPDATE: The Glenn Miller Orchestra performance previously scheduled for October 30, 2024 is rescheduled for August 6, 2025. Tickets already purchased will automatically be transferred to the new date.

“In The Mood” for swing music? The most popular and sought after big band of all time returns to Asheville at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts for one night only! On October 30, The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform their greatest hits, including “In The Mood”, “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, “American Patrol”, “A String Of Pearls”, “Little Brown Jug”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”, “Tuxedo Junction”, and of course their theme song “Moonlight Serenade” as they continue their national tour.
The 17 member orchestra, their lead singers and vocal group will perform their catalog of big band classics just the way they would have over 80 years ago when Glenn Miller stood in front of his band. It is a show that continues to transport audiences back in time and is as nostalgic as it is exciting.
Touring continuously since 1956, The Glenn Miller Orchestra is featured in over 200 concerts and dances per year. Each performance includes the timeless classics that made them famous the world over in a show that has moved audiences for generations.

Composer and percussionist Sarah Hennies and composer and bassist Tristan Kasten-Krause make music rooted in observation. Timbres across percussion and string instruments gradually meld into one; pitches gently float into consonance after bristling in dissonance. The Quiet Sun (2025), their debut duo album recorded at ISSUE Project Room, presents two works that each show a different lens into the large-scale forms they have developed together.
