Poet Donika Kelly and memoirist Melissa Febos will present a reading at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith Union, Blue Ridge Room.
Donika Kelly is the author of “The Renunciations,” winner of the Anisfield-Wolf book award in poetry, and Bestiary, the winner of the 2015 Cave Canem Poetry Prize, a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, and a Kate Tufts Discovery Award. A recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, she is a Cave Canem graduate fellow and founding member of the collective Poets at the End of the World. Her poems have been published in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Paris Review, and elsewhere. She is an assistant professor in the English Department at the University of Iowa, where she teaches creative writing.
Melissa Febos is the bestselling author of four books, including “Girlhood,” which won the National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism and has been translated into seven languages; and “Body Work: The Radical Power of Personal Narrative.” Her fifth book, “The Dry Season,” is forthcoming from Alfred A. Knopf. Her work has recently appeared in The Paris Review, The New Yorker, The Sun, The New York Times Magazine, The Best American Essays, Vogue, and New York Review of Books. Febos is a professor at the University of Iowa.

DCPS is a completely free poetry group that is open to poets of all ages and experience levels. Join us at the Black Mountain Library from 6-7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month for our (respectful) critique group. Join us on September 20, from 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM for an enchanting session of yoga amidst the picturesque surroundings of Reynolds Village. The event will take place on the lush green lawn, creating a soothing atmosphere to unwind and embrace the beauty of nature.
Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a newcomer to the practice, “Yoga on the Green” welcomes individuals of all skill levels to partake in a 75 minute long session of rejuvenating yoga. Led by experienced and certified yoga instructors, the session will incorporate a blend of gentle stretches, mindfulness techniques, and calming breathwork to help you connect with your inner self and find balance amid life’s hustle and bustle.
“Yoga on the Green” is more than just a yoga session; it’s a chance to connect with like-minded individuals in the Asheville community. Whether you’re coming alone, with friends, or as a family, this event encourages the spirit of unity and wellness among participants. “We are so excited to bring this event to Reynolds Village.” says Marketing Associate, Gabi Walsh. “This is a great opportunity to take part in a community experience and try something new at Reynolds Village!”.

Back by popular demand, it’s BARN YOGA! We’re hosting the yogis of Breeze Yoga Space every last Sunday of the month, June through October, letting out just in time to enjoy our new Big Barn Market full of local farmers, food makers, crafters and artists…
Embraced by the mountains, the breeze through the trees, the rooted sensation that our farm’s land brings at every visit. Barn Yoga is just a special experience, and we’re so glad to have it back. You may be joined by one of our Farm Interns, a Butcher or Store Staff, so keep an eye out for familiar faces!

We’ve heard your valuable feedback, and now you don’t have to hear us! Beginning May 4, 2021, the period between 8 and 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday morning of every month will be reserved for “Meditative Mornings,” a pause for quiet time in our gardens and on our trails. During this time, our working garden crew will abstain from using leaf blowers, mowers and other equipment so you can be sure to enjoy the sounds of birds and the wind in the trees.
Take advantage of half-price parking on the first Tuesday of every month and come out to the Arboretum to enjoy a Meditative Morning!

Join us for a fall yoga series at the library! This is an all-levels, community-oriented yoga class – accessible to all with modifications to make things easier for those who need and options to make things more challenging for those who wish. Courtney Jarrell has 11 years of experience teaching yoga. She has certifications in Hatha Yoga and Prenatal Yoga, as well as a certification as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. This class will be offered on the 1st Thursday of the month from 4:30-5:30. No registration is required, but participants should bring a mat. Join us for a beautiful sound healing concert inside the Salt Cave. The concert will be preformed by Billy From @Skinny Beats Sound Shop. Come enjoy the sounds of the handpan, gong, crystal bowls as well as many other various instruments. The music will vibrate through the walls of the salt cave and reach to the deepest part of your soul. These two treatments combined create wonderful space for deep healing.
