Bowl for Kids’ Sake- The most fun you’ll have in rented shoes!

Bowl for Kids’ Sake is a fun, easy and a great way to help get kids matched to a mentor!

1. Create a Team: Teams are formed with 4-5 members. Create a team with family, friends, fraternity brothers, sorority sisters, co-workers, just whoever you can round up!

2. Raise money: Each bowler is asked to donate or raise a minimum of $50 in donations. Each team raises $250.

3. Join Us at the Bowling Alley: After you have secured your donations, it’s time to have fun! You’ll receive two games of bowling with shoe rental included and lunch for your team.

Our theme this year is Support Your Sport!  If you are a veteran participator in Bowl for Kids’ Sake then you already know that we LOVE our costumes.  Here’s your change to dress up in your favorite sports gear, team jersey, or sports hero.  The possibilities are endless and we can’t wait to see the creativity of our bowlers!

WESTERN CAROLINA WRITERS

Here comes the 5th Western Carolina Writers Showcase since the first production in July of 2022!  This showcase features these 9 incredibly talented local singer-songwriters:  Whitney Mongé, Melissa McKinney, Ben Balmer, Jeff Santiago, Tina Collins (Tina & Her Pony), Siena Christie, Steve Taton, Hunter Andrus, and Jim Swayzee.  There will be 3 rounds of 3 performers taking turns playing their original music with occasional spontaneous collaboration creating many magical moments that can only be experienced live.

Western Carolina Writers was established in 2019 by Nick McMahon, along with Jesse Frizsell and Thomas Yon, as a traveling “Songwriters-In-The-Round” style show.  The idea was to take turns performing original songs with fun moments of collaboration at venues all over Western North Carolina.

After about a dozen increasingly successful shows, McMahon started inviting other area songwriters to participate.  And now, after around 150 shows featuring close to 80 different local artists, the concept has become even more popular, fun and diverse.

In 2022, Mcmahon and current project partner, Stephen Evans, decided to take this show into the listening rooms and out of the noisy bars and breweries so the songs could really be heard and appreciated.  With four recent magical & successful songwriter showcases, three at The Grey Eagle and one at Ayurprana Listening Room, this decision has proven to be the right move.

Great news for poets and poetry lovers: Dark City Poet’s Society is returning to the Black Mountain Library. DCPS is a completely free poetry group that is open to poets of all ages and experience levels. Join us at the Black Mountain Library from 6-7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month for our (respectful) critique group. Asheville Catholic School presents the 17th Annual Shamrock Run on Saturday, March 16. The event will benefit the O’Brien and William Edward Gibbs Memorial Scholarship Fund. There are two races: a 5K and a 10K, both of which start and finish at ACS and run through the beautiful neighborhoods of North Asheville. A fun run will precede the start of the 5K and 10K. The 5K and 10K will start 15 minutes apart. The 10K will start at 8:30 AM and the 5K at 8:45 AM. The Fun Run will begin at 8:00 AM. This year’s race will be on the day before St. Patrick’s Day giving everyone a perfect way to celebrate this fun holiday. There will be great food, beer, and a DJ before and after the race.

Celebrate Pi Day at UNC Asheville’s annual fun-run on March 17, starting at 3:14 p.m. sharp. Whether you prefer to run, walk, skip, or trot the 3.14-mile distance, come take part in honoring the mathematical marvel that is Pi at Carrier Park, 220 Amboy Rd Asheville, NC 28806.

This event is open to all members of the public, with a registration fee of $10 for students and $20 for all other participants. Beginning and concluding at the Picnic Shelter in Carrier Park, participants will be greeted with delicious Pi(e) at the finish line!

All proceeds from the event will support the Asheville Initiative for Math at UNC Asheville, including the Marvelous Math Club. The Marvelous Math Club uses math as a catalyst to build leadership skills, create community, and provide a space where elementary school students can grow academically and socially. Join us for a day of fun and meaningful support for math education in our community!
