Hickory Nut Gap & Appalachian Makers Collective are teaming up to bring you a beautifully curated gathering of local growers, food makers, brewers, herbalists, crafters and artists, every last Sunday of the month June through October- a perfect opportunity to plan your monthly shopping around and commit to supporting local folk.

Come shop the Big Barn Market for local and regional fare by some of the most talented in the area- and come into our Farm Store and Butchery to get your meats and deli goodies. If you come early, you can catch some Big Barn Yoga brought to you by Breeze Yoga Space. Tickets can be purchased here!

Chef Corso will host a premiere of his new show, Outdoor Eats TV, at 7:30 p.m. on September 27th at WNC Outdoor Collective in Black Mountain, NC. The show takes viewers on adventures following a professionally trained chef as he whips up actually good meals for backpacking with items from your local market. Enjoy the episode and a backcountry cooking workshop following.

Part social gathering, part fashion, part fundraiser. Come to mingle, find a new favorite outfit, and raise money for reproductive justice.

The swap takes place on Saturday, September 30 from 1-4 at Hi-Wire Brewing River Arts District. All profits from ticket sales and $1 from each flagship beer sale will be donated to Asheville’s Planned Parenthood and Mountain Area Abortion Doula Collective.

Items will be organized by feminine and masculine styles, we anticipate receiving more feminine-style clothing based on previous events. The fundraiser is open to people of all genders and sizes.

On the day of the event
Arrive to swap the shop! You can leave with 15(ish) items
We’ll swap until we run out, so come on time for the best selection!
Unswapped clothing will be donated or kept for future swaps/reuse projects

Beginning May 4, 2021, the period between 8 and 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday morning of every month will be reserved for “Meditative Mornings,” a pause for quiet time in our gardens and on our trails. During this time, our working garden crew will abstain from using leaf blowers, mowers and other equipment so you can be sure to enjoy the sounds of birds and the wind in the trees.

Take advantage of half-price parking on the first Tuesday of every month and come out to the Arboretum to enjoy a Meditative Morning!

you’re itching to get out and do some bargain hunting, the Swannanoa Community Yard Sale is here to help! The twice-annual sale returns this Saturday, Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., in the Swannanoa Ingles parking lot, 2299 US Hwy. 70. With dozens of sellers and hundreds of shoppers, there’s something for everyone. Don’t miss out on this area’s largest yard sale event!

Seller spaces are $15 each if paid in advance ($20 on the day of the sale), with a two space maximum per seller. Please bring your own tables. We’ve had an overwhelming response and are nearing seller capacity, so please check availability and register in advance by sending an email to [email protected] or calling 828-515-1840.

All proceeds from seller spaces help support Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) — an all-volunteer nonprofit organization — and the Swannanoa community. Thank you, and see you at the sale!

Join us for a beautiful sound healing concert inside the Salt Cave. The concert will be preformed by Billy From @Skinny Beats Sound Shop. Come enjoy the sounds of the handpan, gong, crystal bowls as well as many other various instruments. Shop, sip, and groove on The Restoration Asheville rooftop at our first-ever Solarium Autumn Market! Browse and buy from local artisans, sip on fresh cocktails from The Observatory, and listen to AVL.XLR dropping beats until the sun sets. The perfect start to fall in Asheville.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to bring their real-life stories to the page, whether for publication or simply to record stories for family and friends. Through focused prompts, we will revisit and write about important moments from our lives. Our session will include timed writing exercises, group discussions, and an opportunity to read one’s work aloud in a supportive setting. Please bring paper and a writing implement and come ready to write!

Space is limited, so registration is required.

Lori Horvitz’ first collection of memoir-essays, The Girls of Usually, won the 2016 Gold Medal IPPY Book Award in Autobiography/Memoir. Her creative nonfiction has appeared in a variety of journals including Hobart, South Dakota Review, The New York Times, The Guardian, and Hotel Amerika. Professor of English at UNC Asheville, Horvitz has been awarded fellowships from Yaddo, Cottages at Hedgebrook, VCCA, Ragdale, Blue Mountain Center, and Brush Creek. She holds a Ph.D. in English from SUNY Albany, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Brooklyn College.

RiverLink, Land of Sky Regional Council, and the Town of Weaverville are hosting a hands-on workshop on invasive plant management techniques. Participants will remove invasive plants from Weaverville Main Street Nature Park.
