Invested Course: An Investment Crowdfunding Learning Journey
Sep 23 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
online
Scholarships available
The State of North Carolina recently passed legislation (NC PACES) making it possible to take on non-accredited investors for your small business. This allows you to raise funds from your friends, family, and broader community and to offer them a stake in – and a return on – the success that they are helping you to build.
Invested: An Investment Crowdfunding Learning Journey will assist a small cohort of interested business owners who are currently experiencing growth opportunities in preparing for, designing, and launching an investment crowdfunding campaign. The full course will entail five 2.5-hour sessions starting Thursday, September 23rd and running through October 21st.
The 7th Cohort of our Invested Course is coming up! The 5-session VIRTUAL COURSE will take place on the following dates:
Sep 23 – Session 1: 3-5pm
Sep 30 – Session 2: 3-5pm
Oct 07 – Session 3: 3-5pm
Oct 14 – Session 4: 3-5pm
Oct 21 – Session 5: 3-5pm
In between classes, the Invested program includes several one on one technical sessions with facilitators. Following the course, those that decide to execute investment crowdfunding campaigns will move into launch with the assistance of our BizWorks team and specialist partners.
Add your name to the Cohort 7 Interest Form, and we will follow up with a brief consultation and informative call on specifications for the course. The course fee is $100 and $25 for additional participants from the same company. We also have an interest list for potential investors (those of us that may want to participate in a local crowdfunding campaign and attend one of the Invested course pitch events) that you can sign up for here.
A big thanks to our partners Jake Farrar (Van Winkle Law Firm), Annie Milroy Price (Birds Eye), and Jeffrey Scott (Metamorphic) who have assisted in developing and delivering this course.

Ideal tutors enjoy seeing concrete outcomes from their efforts and sharing in the life-changing successes of others. See our full tutor position description here.

Sand Hill Community Garden Workdays
Sep 25 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Buncombe County Sports Park
Looking to get involved, stay active, and meet some new friends? Sand Hill Community Garden workdays take place on Wednesdays (6-8 p.m.) and Saturdays (10 a.m.-noon) from Feb. 27-Oct. 30, 2021, at Buncombe County Sports Park. The garden is located on 16 Apac Dr. in West Asheville/Enka-Candler.
Join friends and neighbors as they come together on common ground to raise fresh, organic vegetables and fruits for the Enka community.
Expect to wear a mask and maintain social distance throughout. Tools and hand sanitizer are available, but any gloves, loppers, pruners, or gardening tools you can bring will decrease the amount of contact between volunteers. Please wear work clothes to get dirty and closed-toe shoes. Sunscreen, water, and a hat are also handy items to have on hand.
Sand Hill Community Garden has been growing fresh produce since 2011 and raised over 1,200 lbs. of organic produce last year.
NOTE: Community workdays are weather dependent. Please join the community garden email list (send your info to [email protected]) to stay up on workday tasks and other garden news.

Volunteer Opportunities at Blue Ridge Humane Society
Sep 26 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Blue Ridge Humane Society
Our volunteers:
Improve the quality of living for animals in Henderson County.
Make a difference in their community through our community programs like our Spay/Neuter Incentive Program and Meals on Wheels Pet Pals.
Provide support for all departments and serve on our board and committees.
Attend a Virtual Volunteer Information Session to learn more about Blue Ridge Humane Society and current volunteer opportunities.
Pick a Volunteer Assignment!Decide what volunteer position works best for you! Some assignments can get started right away and some require prior orientation and training such as animal handling training that you can get started on.
Start Volunteering!Get started in your position. Our volunteers make a huge impact in Henderson County to ensure both pets and their people are happy, healthy, and thriving. We wouldn’t be able to accomplish all we do without them.
Food and drinks are free and there will be a raffle to win gear and merch – 100% of the raffle proceeds will benefit the Asheville GreenWorks Trash Trout Program.
Enjoy demonstrations from local craftsman and businesses. Lil Speck’s Adventure Company, an overland camping rental company in Brevard, will be there with a few of their Toyota overland builds to display / demo.
The cleanup portion of the event will be 11am-1pm and the BBQ fundraiser will follow.
