Intro to Resin Art Pouring: Tray Workshop

Purple Crayon

Acrylic pour painting is all the rage these days, and the results ARE amazing. Resin art pouring uses a similar process, but the results are even more beautiful—if you can imagine! Its translucent and ethereal layering of colors is difficult to recreate using any other medium.

In this exciting workshop, Resin Art artist Donna Cook will show you how to create a stunning, one-of-a-kind resin tray. In the process, you’ll learn the basics of epoxy resin pouring, including: safety precautions, materials and tools needed to get started, how to use resin pigments to produce colors, and how to move resin to achieve the results you want.

In addition to learning a new skill, you’ll walk away with a beautiful 13” x 9-1/2” tray—which is worth the cost of the workshop in and of itself!

Introduction to Zentangle®
Apr 23 @ 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Purple Crayon

Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist, Certified Zentangle® Teacher, Michelle Marshall, will show you how to create beautiful abstract images using this fun, meditative process.

Zentangle® is an easy-to-learn, relaxing way to turn structured patterns—called “tangles”—into tiny (3.5” x 3.5”) masterpieces that can, ultimately, be assembled into a larger mosaic. In this workshop, Michelle will review the history of the Zentangle® Method and the benefits of using good quality tools. Then, you will begin to learn how to use “strings” to create boundaries within a paper tile, how to create several tangles, and, finally, how to shade your designs to increase their depth and richness.

“Sylvie’s counseling style is cooperative rather than authoritative. The group always bought into the objective because they were manifesting the path with her, rather than plodding behind her resentfully. Sylvie has a very kinesthetic and warm sense of place with clients. She is there authentically. In turn, her clients are there for real, authentically with her. They trust her. They grow into their best selves. She shares with them the secret of trail blazing and encourages them to seek their own challenges, to improve the world around them, and to leave a legacy of sustainable practices that will protect and nourish the generations to come. She illuminates the spark that is their inner light that will guide them on their path.” – Brianna, Retreat Participant

Introduction to Fluid Art
May 7 @ 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Purple Crayon

Have you ever wanted to create an abstract painting but weren’t sure how to start? If so, fluid art—also called [acrylic] pour painting, flow art, liquid art., etc.—might be just what you’re looking for!

Fluid art is a form of abstract art that uses acrylic paints with a runny (fluid) consistency. The paints react with each other when combined to make interesting and visually organic motifs. As the paints run amok and spill across your canvas, the possibilities are endless!

In this workshop, Dawn Barnard will show you several different ways to do acrylic pours. Then, you’ll practice the techniques, making multiple 8” x 10” abstract paintings. Finally, Dawn will demonstrate how to finish your painting with an acrylic coating.

This is a fun and easy class and is great for experimenting with color!

Anxiety can be a debilitating force in life and at times, so debilitating that it interferes with the ability to manage one’s own activities of daily living. When this happens, it’s important to know that there are supports available to treat and assist in the management of symptoms. This free workshop focuses on different types of anxiety disorders and specifically details ones more commonly seen in older adults. The class will also cover interventions available to assist in calming the anxious mind.

These events will be facilitated by the Vaya Health GERO team. CEU’s are provided through NC Department of Health and Human Services. The workshops are free, but you do need to register here.
