Womansong, Asheville’s longest-running women’s community chorus, invites you to join us in our spring concert, “Love Your Mother (Earth)” a tribute to the beauty of our world. Under the direction of Artistic Director Dr. Allison Thorp, along with Assistant Director Claire Lemke and former Director Althea Gonzalez, this concert will focus on songs celebrating, caring for, and advocating for Mother Earth. The first half of our program will highlight music that expresses love for the earth – appreciation, reflection, connection and joy. The second half will feature music that expresses love for the earth in action – doing, moving, and making change. Among the many inspiring songs are Carrie Newcomer’s If Not Now, Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi, Elise Witt’s My Salsa Garden, and the world premiere of Lytingale’s call-to-action composition, Together We Can Change the World.

Wanna hear the best local music and drink the best local beers? Hop aboard LaZoom’s Purple Bus and rock out with a local band while we take you on a journey to Asheville’s premiere local breweries.
The Orange Constant formed in 2012 and has since made a name for itself across the American Southeast. Based in Georgia, the group continues to grow a loyal fan-base that craves its vintage-rock sound with a contemporary twist. TOC’s debut album, Time to Go (June 2015), was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer John Keane (R.E.M., Widespread Panic) and garnered praise from Relix Magazine as a “confident and polished debut album…laden with connective riffs and melodious charm.” The band shares bills with acts such as Perpetual Groove, TAUK, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and CBDB and won the 2016 Flagpole Athens Music Award for best “Jam/Funk” band. Its second LP, Point of Reference (March 2017), was produced by Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Kishi Bashi, Futurebirds) and demonstrates an urge to break genre restrictions. The band returned to Keane for its third full-length release, Peel (May 2020), which features all five current members, and released its first live album, No More Time, in 2022. The Orange Constant draws influence from many styles and fans are often drawn to its ability to meld progressive composition and improvisation with a pop-like sensibility. The group is: Andrew Brantley (guitar, vocals), Nickalous Benson (guitar, vocals), Tyler Walker (bass, vocals), Chris Freiberg (keyboards), Sam Groveman (drums).

Big Boi
Urban
Atlanta indisputably set the pace for modern hip-hop. However, Big Boi set the pace for Atlanta, and by proxy, the culture at large. If the genre of hip-hop ever gets its own “Rap Mount Rushmore,” a legacy as the region’s foremost wordsmith, funkiest gentleman, and resident ATLien certainly guarantees a place for the diamond selling artist, rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor, philanthropist born Antwan André Patton. Big made history as the preeminent spitter of the Dungeon Family and one-half of OutKast. The legendary duo sold 25 million albums and garnered seven GRAMMY® Awards, becoming the first and only hip-hop artist in history to win the GRAMMY® for “Album of the Year” upon release of their 2003 RIAA Diamond-certified Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Big Boi made his proper introduction as a solo artist in 2010 with Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. A modern classic, it captured #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and landed on Pitchfork’s “100 Best Albums of the Decade ‘So Far.'” Following a succession of high-profile album releases, Big Boi released his most recent album Boomiverse in 2017. The smash single “All Night” sound tracked a high-profile Apple Animoji commercial, blew up radio, and clocked 40 million streams within a year. The song also hit the Top 30 on the pop chart and Top 10 at Rhythmic. In addition to his music career, the Hip-Hop legend recently announced that he will be the executive producer for a new crime series titled Government Records. He also signed a deal with Bread and Butter Content Studio to produce Big Boi’s Gotta Eat, an upcoming series to find the freshest seafood and unique food culture coast to coast, with an energy that only Big Boi can bring. -
Waka Flocka Flame
Urban
Born Juaquin James Malphurs, the global icon and rapper more commonly known as Waka Flocka Flame. Waka is known for putting trap back on the map, dropping the first volume of his street classic Salute Me or Shoot Me that caught fire with songs, “We On The Way, “Dreads N Gold” and his breakout single “O Let’s Do it.” The mixtape’s buzz allowed Waka to release his proper debut Flockaveli, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 100. With many platinum signature hit records including “No hands” and “Wild Boy” there’s a high chance Waka’s music will be played at your party.
With Flockaveli 2 People can only come to expect the same energy that Waka always brings to the party. His epic touring and performance style are some of the reasons he’s earned the nickname “Turn Up God.” A style that translates into the EDM world Waka also calls his second home now, he fell in the love with the genre during a tour in Europe a few years ago. “Music is like anger management,” he says. “It’s fun. You get to express yourself.”
Waka Flocka is looking forward and ready to express a new musical direction with Flockaveli II. Set to feature production from Southside, and Lex Luger and many more. For Flockaveli II, Waka is approaching this third studio album the same way as his previous projects: trap banger after trap banger.
Waka’s laid-back demeanor makes him a fan favorite, and he’s hoping that his straightforward creative process will please his core fans. “I’m cocky when it comes to my fans and my music ‘cause I know my fans talk to me,” “I want my fans to look at they haters like, ‘Told y’all my boy was gonna go hard. F*ck y’all.’ I want my fans to hear Flockaveli II, and I want them to put a dread wig on and shake their head and rock with me.”
“Flockaveli II is for the streets. It’s for the people,” Waka says. “Flockaveli II is just the savior of the party.”

Talib Kweli
Urban
The Brooklyn-based MC earned his stripes as one of the most lyrically-gifted, socially aware and
politically insightful rappers to emerge in the last 20 years.
“I’m a touring artist. I’m an artist that’s internationally known. I’m not just a local artist at this point in
my career. I’m cognizant of the fact that what I do is beyond where it started. I’m trying to reach the apex
of where I am now, but without turning my back on or dismissing what I’ve done before.”
After nearly 20 years of releasing mesmerizing music, Talib Kweli stands as one of the world’s most
talented and most accomplished Hip Hop artists. Whether working with Mos Def as one-half of Black
Star, partnering with producer Hi-Tek for Reflection Eternal, releasing landmark solo material or
collaborating with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Just Blaze, J Dilla, or Madlib, Kweli commands
attention by delivering top-tier lyricism, crafting captivating stories and showing the ability to rhyme over
virtually any type of instrumental.
In 2011, Kweli founded Javotti Media, which is self-defined as “a platform for independent thinkers and
doers.” Kweli has set out to make Javotti Media (which released his 2011 album, Gutter Rainbows, and is
named after his paternal grandmother) into a media powerhouse that releases music, films and books.

The seed was planted for The Letter Show when George and Becca met the old fashioned way (a Craigslist ad) in 2011. They discovered not only a shared love of writing and playing Americana music, but a compatibility in their singing voices and playing styles that was undeniable.
After gigging for several years, and contributing to various projects, The Letter Show was formally minted in 2013 with guitarist and songwriter Daniel Crawford. The trio headed to Nashville to record an EP with Grammy-winning producer Joey Crawford. Those sessions resulted in the Brokenhearted Stumblers EP, self-released in the summer of 2013. That August, the band traveled to Floyd, VA to perform at Floydfest.
After Daniel moved to Nashville in 2015, Becca and George continued to collaborate on various recording projects and perform live together and independently. In 2021, they rekindled The Letter Show name, and began gigging steadily in the Charleston area. The band can be found at prominent Charleston venues such as Holy City Brewing. The Letter Show is booking actively for 2023, and currently recording its sophomore EP.

Kenny Rogers was a GRAMMY Award-winning superstar that entertained fans for six decades. Selling over 120 million albums worldwide, he is one of the best-selling male artists of all-time. His songs were classic hits and will be remembered and sung for generations.
But…. nobody does them like Kenny’s ORIGINAL BAND !!!!
The actual original band that backed Kenny Rogers for 40+ years realized that there is still a tremendous demand for the songs that Kenny made so famous and felt that this show “Through the Years” would be a way they could honor Kenny and keep alive his legendary career.

We can’t believe it’s been ten years since the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge came onto the Lake Lure scene! The Bridge is a premier garden destination that draws visitors from around the world. From the beginning, our volunteers have lovingly created and maintained the gardens and delighted in sharing information and their passion with all who visit.
Whether we’re chatting with visitors as they walk the gardens or making presentations in more formal sessions, we love talking shop. To mark this special occasion, we are hosting a special FUNraising and FUNDraising event.
As part of commemorating the anniversary, we are growing and enhancing our education program. Currently, all classes are conducted “open air,” which means we sometimes have to cancel or move a class due to rain or excessive wind or do our best to provide shelter from the hot sun. To grow our vision and attract even more visitors to our beautiful area, we need a structure where we can safely conduct classes and events and where our schedule is not weather-dependent. All proceeds from the anniversary party will go toward building and operating our new Education Center. Make plans now to join in the fun and support the cause.
Tickets – $80 per person
Includes:
- Live music by Johnnie Blackwell
- Three-course dinner buffet & dessert
- Cash bar
- Silent Auction – get ready to purchase items for your garden and more!

John McEuen, born in Oakland, CA in 1945, moved to southern California’s Orange County with his family for high school years, where he thought his teenage dream job in Disneyland’s Magic Shop (at 16 years old) was “as good as it gets”. He and lifelong high-school friend both got that 1963 job (magic shop co-worker, Steve Martin) were 17 when music came along. After seeing Missouri bluegrass group The Dillards in an Orange County club, John’s life headed towards his new dream: make magic with music and be a traveling music man. Leaving his Garden Grove spawning ground, moving to Hollywood, dream became a reality more than imagined it could be!
In 1971 John initiated the landmark Will the Circle be Unbroken* album by asking musical mentors Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson to record; then with his brother Bill (band manager, record producer) it grew to inviting Mother Maybelle Carter, Jimmy Martin, Roy Acuff, ‘Bashful’ Brother Oswald, Vassar Clements, and Merle Travis to a
Nashville studio, hooking them up with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, for 5 magic hot August days of recording.
The now multi-platinum “Circle” is honored both by Library of Congress and the Grammy Hall of Fame. * “One of the most important records to come out of Nashville…” Chet Flippo, Rolling Stone
Multi-instrumentalist McEuen (banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, piano, dulcimer) recognized as a founding member and award-winning outstanding performer of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (50 years!), departed NGDB at the end of the 50th year anniversary tour Oct. 22, 2017 due to demands for his solo work. In addition to John’s
numerous solo accolades, NGDB was inducted in to Colorado Music Hall of Fame 2015. He covers it all in his highly praised book The Life I’ve Picked on Chicago Review Press, published April, 2018.
McEuen has made over 46 albums (7 solo) that have earned five platinum and six gold records, multiple Grammy Awards and nominations, CMA and ACM awards, an Emmy film score nomination, IBMA record of the year award, and performed on another 25 albums as guest artist. John’s production of Steve Martin – The Crow won the
2010 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy.
The Music of the Wild West CD- produced by McEuen, was honored with the Western Heritage Award. Other accolades include: Grammy nomination for String Wizards II; the Uncle Dave Macon Award (for excellence in preservation and performance of historic music); 2009 he was inducted in to the Traditional Country Music Hall
of Honor. As a producer/composer of film scores, John has produced award-winning projects of his own and for several other artists.
John has continually performed since 1963 – over 10,000 concerts, 300 television shows, 11,000 interviews and flown more than 4 million miles. In 2010 he was honored with the Best in the West Award solo performer from the Folk Alliance Organization.
McEuen’s rich history of creating, producing and preserving original and traditional
folk music earned him the 2013 Charlie Poole Lifetime Achievement Award.
McEuen joined forces with Martha Redbone in 2011 to co-write, arrange, perform on and produce her Garden of Love album where they put Englishman William Blake’s artful poetry of 200 years ago to the ‘Appalachian sound’. Playing a variety of instruments, he fit it to the musical landscape of the late 1800’s.
Made in Brooklyn. – (Stereophile Magazine's Record of the Month; winner: Independent Music Award’s Best Americana album in 2018), produced by John and David Chesky, earned rave reviews.
John was inducted in 2017 to the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame
John’s first book, The Life I’ve Picked on Chicago Review Press has over 100 5-star rave reviews on Amazon.
John’s popular Sirius/XM Acoustic Traveller Show, now in its 18th year, is found on The Village channel.
Radio Host, author, television show producer, writer, concert promoter, multi-instrumental musician, performer, magician, John McEuen continues to explore the music world. “I am grateful people continue to support what I do, as it excites me to continue making things. I feel like some of my best projects are ahead, like my next album out this summer on Compass Records! So many stories. so many songs, so many notes, so little time!”
This show will probably sell out in advance.
Thus, advance ticket purchases are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!!!!
