“My journey as a physical therapist has developed greatly through the years. After graduating from Wheeling University in 2016, I spent time working in Virginia and West Virginia before falling in love with Asheville, North Carolina. I completed an orthopedic residency program in orthopedics in 2020 and became an Orthopedic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Since that time, I have also found my passion for treating individuals experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. It quickly became clear to me that symptoms of urinary and fecal incontinence, frequency/urgency, pelvic pain, pain with sexual activity are under-reported and under-treated. I love empowering individuals to reclaim their confidence and help lift the feelings of isolation associated with it! I have completed extensive training to treat the pelvic health population through Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, earning the Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification, and Institute of Clinical Excellence.

The 7th Annual Light Up the Night 5K is set for Friday, August 8 th , 2025, and there’s still time
to register for this fun and meaningful event supporting Western Carolina Rescue Ministries (WCRM).
This glow-in-the-dark evening fundraiser brings the community together to walk or run to support life transformation for
the homeless, poor, and addicted populations of Western North Carolina. WCRM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
meeting people in crisis, helping them at their point of need, investing in their future, and walking alongside them until
they can move forward.
The Light Up the Night 5K will take place at Asheville’s Carrier Park, starting at 7:00 p.m., with packet pickup
beginning at 5:30 p.m. Timed by Finish Well Timing, the event welcomes participants of all ages and abilities, regardless
of race, ethnicity, gender, or faith. All proceeds will directly benefit WCRM’s programs and services, which provide
shelter, recovery programs, meals, and long-term support to those in need.

This month, we invite Dr. Taylor Yankey to lead a workshop on contraception! This class will include a brief history, an overview of the hormones involved with menstruation to understand the variety of contraceptives, and a breakdown of all of the options for contraception. She will also cover how contraceptives can be used for more than preventing pregnancy.

This event is for anyone curious about contraception! Period Nirvana is an inclusive space and we welcome anyone who wishes to attend. This class is geared toward high-school and college aged folks, but is also appropriate for middle-schoolers who might be interested.

She received her Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Public Health degrees at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. Awarded the USPHS Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award in 2023, Yankey believes that a community pharmacist is the most accessible healthcare provider for rural and underserved communities. She strives to leverage pharmacy practice to enhance the holistic health of our community, working on projects related to medication adherence, medication access, health literacy, and the wellbeing of healthcare staff. International Overdose Awareness Day takes place on August 31st — in Asheville, OAD events will take place at Carrier Park from 12:30-5:30p Sunday. This gathering will host panelists, a youth speaker, a guided writing activity, and community connection along with a collective honoring of loved ones lost. Free food from Equal Plates will be provided for lunch. We welcome friends, families, and community members in recovery as well as anyone who feels called to offer their heart to this meaningful day. Hosted by SeekHealing partnered with WNCAP, Buncombe County, UMOJA, RHA, Sunrise Community Center, and Vaya Health.

Hendersonville Theatre was severely impacted by Hurricane Helene, sustaining approximately $100,000 in damages.
