MaxxMusic presents: KATIE PRUITT – The Time Wasn’t Wasted Tour
With opener Jess Nolan.
Fri, Sept 5 • 8 pm
Katie Pruitt is living proof of music’s power to transform the way we experience the world. Soon after the arrival of her acclaimed debut Expectations—a 2020 LP on which she documented her journey in growing up queer in the Christian South—the Georgia-bred singer/songwriter/guitarist heard from countless listeners that her songs had impacted their lives on an elemental level. “A lot of people told me how the record helped them navigate their relationships with family—I even had some parents tell me that it helped them understand their children better,” she recalls. With her sophomore album Mantras, the Nashville-based musician now looks inward to explore such matters as gender identity, self-compassion or the lack thereof, and the struggle for peace in times of chaos and uncertainty—ultimately arriving at a body of work that speaks to the strength in undoing harmful self-beliefs and fully living your truth.

Olivia Block and Lea Bertucci’s first collaborative release, I Know the Number of the Sand and the Measure of the Sea is out on Room40.
The 17th Annual Music Video Asheville showcases creative collaborations between musicians and filmmakers. Bands from Asheville and beyond submit their full-length music videos for a chance to win cash, a 100-album record pressing by American Vinyl Co and Donaldson Record Pressing Co, a day in the studio at Citizen Vinyl and recognition.
The annual event usually receives around 100 submissions, and approximately 30 of the best entries will be selected as finalists for viewing at the red-carpet runway awards ceremony on September 10, 2025, at Wortham Center’s Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville. The winners will be chosen by a judging panel of over 25 local and national judges. Attendees will have the chance to vote for People’s Choice.
“The film festival uses judging as an opportunity to share work with film and music industries in other parts of the country,” says MVA founder Jenny Greer Fares. “We’ve worked hard over the years to focus on the art form of putting visuals to music, storytelling, cinematography, etc… as opposed to hosting a popularity contest. We work as a team to get diverse judges from all over, who are experts in the music and film industries. The People’s Choice is a crowd favorite award and is the exception. Audience members text their favorite video selection at the event, and this usually is a locally loved act who deserves recognition, like Andrew Scotchie’s video “Love is Enough” in 2024.”
“This event was invented by musicians, and the filmmakers are the ones submitting the films and helping bring the artistic visions to life,” says Fares. “Filmmaking is very collaborative and so is music making. We want to celebrate those collaborations and Asheville’s culture.”
Presented by Fred Andersen Subaru, Produced by Sound Mind Design and I AM AVL

JAKE KOHN
From Stephens City, Virginia, Jake Kohn is a singer/songwriter on a clear path to stardom. At only 17 years old, Jake’s unusually deep voice and songwriting ability have garnered the attention of some of his favorite artists. 2024 saw him play festivals such as Mile 0 Festival, MerleFest, Newport Folk Festival, Pickathon, and Bourbon & Beyond. In addition to a slew of headline dates, he supported Sierra Ferrell, Sam Barber, and Wyatt Flores. Stay tuned for what Jake has in store for 2025.
It is not lost on Jake that he is playing shows beyond his years. In fact, he is still awestruck when people recognize him. Whether it is signing a poster for a fan or being invited to see Tommy Prine’s release show, Jake is consistently surprised and grateful to be at this point in his 4-year career.
LOW WATER BRIDGE BAND
There’s a sound the Shenandoah River makes as it rumbles over old stones in the shallows. It sings songs the way they used to be – plain and honest. No frills, buckle that belt before you head to the hills and hollers. It’s there under a Virginia moon that you’ll find the Low Water Bridge Band.
Forged by firelight picking, the band’s romping, stomping, country-grass Americana ain’t for the faint of heart. Since their founding in 2020, they’ve gone from barnstorming the Shenandoah Valley to festival stages along the East Coast. Venues from the Carolinas to Kentucky and, yes, Nashville, Tennessee ring with their sound and are asking for more.
