Above and Beyond is PARI’s signature camping experience designed to immerse high school students in the world of space science and research while building confidence and critical thinking skills.
Originally developed in partnership with Duke University and refined for nearly two decades, this space camp explores the universe through astronomy, physics, and astrobiology, while also providing time for adventure and fun.
The process followed by scientists and researchers who’ve made space science their career is modeled to show how new discoveries are made about the universe. Campers are provided the tools and guided through the process by professionals who have made space their life’s work.
This year’s camp will focus on the unique challenges of human space exploration, near and far. From the impact of stars on the planets in their systems, to the composition of atmospheres and regolith, we’ll present the tools to answer a myriad of questions that could one day help humanity spread beyond Earth.
How do we find water or breathable atmosphere, or can they be made? How do we measure radiation from a star or classify exoplanets? Can a cave or lava tube on Mars provide adequate shelter for humans? What resources can be harvested from asteroids? Maybe you’ll help answer a question like these.

Out in the Big Barn, let’s dance!!! Local favorites in the rose-splattered pearl snaps, Old Charlotte Highwaymen will be joining us! Bluegrass, old time, sweet strings and pickings, we’ll have some music to sit and sway to, square dancing and big mountain circle dancing with a caller.
- HNG will be running a bar with local beers and NA beverage and snack cart.
- Barn Door Ciderworks will provide some sweet and snappy sips of their legendary cider brewed right here in Fairview.
- Grush’s Cajun Dino Grill food truck will be there with their Cajun classics fueled with WNC ingredients. Their skill elevates comfort food to a Jurassic level, one of our staff’s favorites.
- Pro tip: we have picnic tables, benches & patio sets, but always bring a backup folding chair or picnic blanket JUST in case. It can get packed!

Beginner’s workshop lesson at 7:30 P.M., then 8-11 P.M. Contra Dance with Country Waltzing at the break and the final dance. This is a partner dance but it’s not necessary to come with a partner. We have different live bands and callers.

An evening of beauty and resilience through the art of dance, Terpsicorps’ world premiere of Appalachian Phoenix is more than a performance—it’s a testament to the strength, creativity, and unity of Western North Carolina. This powerful new work transforms real stories of kindness and perseverance in the wake of Hurricane Helene into breathtaking movement, music, and design. Terpsicorps, now in its 22nd season, features world-class dancers who will bring to life the true stories of local heroes, nominated by their communities. Their acts of kindness and courage shape the choreography, making Appalachian Phoenix a deeply personal and meaningful experience. Around 15,000 water bottles collected from the storm’s debris will be utilized to create a remarkable translucent backdrop that will frame the choreography and reflect abstracted images of WNC projected onto its surface. The original score was created by composer Jeff Schmitt, along with River Guerguerian and Chris Rosser, of Free Planet Radio. It blends the past and present into a dynamic, inspiring, and evocative composition. The score fuses old-time, bluegrass, Afro-Appalachian folk, hip-hop, funk, blues-rock, and Latin rhythms. The Grey Eagle Presents: Blue Country Line Dance’s Giddy-Up Brunch
The Asheville Dream Center is thrilled to present its annual Summer Bash Backpack Giveaway on Saturday, July 26, 2025 — an unforgettable day focused on equipping students and uniting the city. Get ready for one of the biggest and most impactful community events of the year!
The event’s goal is to provide 4,000 students across Asheville and surrounding areas with fully stocked backpacks and essential school supplies. But it’s more than a giveaway — it’s a city-wide celebration of education, families, and community.
This year’s event includes:
Free backpacks filled with school supplies
Free haircuts and clothing for kids
Giant water slides and bounce houses
Face painting, games, and interactive zones
Free treats and delicious food
Community resources and vendors

Join us at the Greenville Convention Center on July 27-30th, 2025 for the SC Athletic Coaches Association- All Sports Clinic. The SCACA All- Sports Clinic is THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE ATHLETICS CONFERENCE in the state of South Carolina. This three-day annual conference offers a wide range of education sessions on both boys and girls sports, athletic administration, as well as health and safety topics, multiple networking opportunities, rules meetings, an on-site job room, an awards banquet, and an astounding array of exhibits.
Come end the FOL year on a high note and welcome new members with a night to remember! Don’t miss the library party of the year! Free music by the Possum Creek Band along with light refreshments provided by the Friends of the Black Mountain Library.

On July 31, August 1, and 2, 2025, a different show will be presented live on stage each evening allowing you to appreciate the talent and dedication of the hundreds of musicians, dancers, and storytellers who are preserving the traditions of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. These traditions involve not only the hand-clapping, toe-tapping rhythms of Bluegrass, the style and stories of century-old ballads, the high energy of clogging, the elegance of Big Circle Mountain Smooth Dance, the fun and entertainment of storytelling, but also include an awareness of the hardships and trials that have brought us to this place and time.
