God of Carnage
Sep 28 @ 2:00 pm
Flat Rock Playhouse

Introducing: The Black Box Series. God of Carnage. Sept. 15 - Oct. 8.

Introducing: The Black Box Series

You’ve never experienced a play on The Rock like this before! Join us for an exciting new series where the audience and artists share the stage together for an intimate and immersive theatre experience. The Black Box Series will feature contemporary works, classics, and stories and playwrights from around the globe.  Be among the first to join us on this new and exciting theatrical journey!

*Both shows contain adult language and content.

Described by Newsday as “brutally entertaining,” God of Carnage is a comedy of manners… without the manners. Don’t miss the triple-Tony-Award-winning Broadway sensation by Yasmina Reza. The New Yorker calls this laugh-out-loud hilarity “ninety minutes of sustained mayhem.”  A playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their principals in tatters.

*Adult language and content.

“A streamlined anatomy of the human animal… delivers the cathartic release of watching other people’s marriages go boom. This play is itself a satisfyingly primitive entertainment.” –The New York Times

LEAF Solid Gold 50th Festival: Legends of Africa
Oct 1 all-day
online w/ LEAF

Listen. Dance. Feel the music and that will answer, “Why the “Legends of Africa?” Africa is the core and essence of where so much of humanity and music has originated. It has forever influenced music and cultures throughout the world with the diaspora of its people. Over the years, LEAF has connected deeply with many African artists and presented artists from 32 of the 54 countries on the continent. These bonds and our love of Africa, bring us back the magic of not just the continent, but its people, our family. So join us for a true gathering of friends and the rekindling of traditions that have made the past 27 years of LEAF memorable.

“The shortest distance between two people is a story, a song, or a dance.”
Masankho Banda from Malawi.

Who is an African Legend you admire? Chinobay of Uganda said he’s been inspired by the music he listened to during Apartheid. He spoke of Miriam Makeba (nicknamed Momma Africa) a South African singer, songwriter and activist whose music was socially responsible and carried so much power for the people. What makes you a Legend is the MESSAGE you carry to the world.

In flow with Chinobay’s reflection, the artwork is a masterpiece created by legendary artist Trek 6 inspired by his work in South Africa while producing a documentary. Trek spoke about how the sunrises and sunsets in Africa were surreal, thus he began with a beautiful sun design.  A wall of drums in South Africa, where they host people from different tribes bringing food, song and art inspired the drums. In Trek’s own words, “Africa is cosmic, colorful, and the center to our past. From it we radiated.”We are honored by his artistic vision.

Mempho Music Festival
Oct 2 all-day
Radians Amphitheater at Memphis Botanic Garden
Mempho Music Festival has announced the lineup for its fifth annual event taking place September 30-October 2, 2022 at Memphis Botanic Garden. Leading the breadth of can’t-miss performances this year will be American rock/blues duo The Black Keys, alternative rock mainstays Wilco, and decorated Americana outfit Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, as well as a double-dose of Athens-based ensemble Widespread Panic returning to the lineup by popular demand. Appearances by Portugal. The ManFantastic NegritoTank and the BangasAllison Russell, and Celisse are also confirmed on the Adams Keegan main stage. View the complete lineup below.

Since its debut in 2017, Mempho Fest has forged its own path in the increasingly-saturated festival circuit. Billboard Magazine has lauded the event as “one of the premiere Southeast music festivals for Americana, rock and blues music,” as evidenced by its continued growth in both patronage and enthusiasm. Last year, the festival celebrated a milestone in its new home at Radians Amphitheater by selling out on all three days, with plans to increase in capacity over the coming years. As Mempho Fest pushes forward, its continued spotlight on Memphis culture, and dedication to upholding the city’s unique musical legacy, will be a driving force in the event’s curation.

This year, Mempho Fest has once again teamed up with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as its charitable partner and beneficiary. The Memphis-based treatment facility is a leading resource and support center for families affected by childhood cancer and other illnesses, providing first-rate care to patients regardless of income status.

Early Bird and Tier 1 advance price tickets for Mempho Music Festival 2022 were announced in February and are now sold out. General Admission and VIP tickets are currently on sale at Tier 2 pricing and can be purchased for $195 and $660, respectively. VIP ticket packages include access to a dedicated VIP area; access to a viewing area in front of the main stage; complimentary VIP parking; $100 in Mempho credit to be used on food and beverages or Mempho merch; catered hors d’oeuvres; access to a private bar serving premium craft beer, wine, and cocktails; complimentary water and sodas; air-conditioned restrooms; WiFi and charging stations; and a dedicated VIP entrance. Tickets can be purchased through memphofest.com/tickets or through Front Gate Tickets. Single day tickets will be made available with the announcement of daily lineups closer to the festival date.

As the festival weekend approaches, organizers look forward to delivering a signature Mempho experience to newcomers and returning guests alike. For more information, and to stay up-to-date on all things Mempho Fest, visit memphofest.com.
