Asheville Off Road Series at Biltmore Estate
Sep 16 @ 7:45 am
Biltmore Estate
Asheville Off Road Series at Biltmore Estate @ Biltmore Estate | Asheville | North Carolina | United States

For the French aristocrat in all of us, this rough-cut, crown-emerald of a race sweeps participants through a mystical journey, back to a time, when the estate might have resembled an 15th century countryside plantation, complete with a game-stocked forest, working vineyards, and a cold mountain river rushing by. Racers on this day will be lords of the land they claim under fast plowing feet & spokes.

The Asheville off-road series of multi-sport events at Biltmore Estate consists of 3 main events, each come with various privileges for participation. All three of the off-road events in September are entirely on the historic grounds of the Biltmore Estate property. The Asheville Duathlon and Gravel Grinder events both get to explore the west side of Biltmore Estate, which is typically off-limits to guests. Join endurance athletes of all abilities and step to the start line, hearts booming in anticipation, to challenge mind and body while competing in the Annual Multi-Sport event series held at Biltmore Estate.

The Asheville Duathlon
The Asheville Duathlon is a 5k road run, 13.25 mile off-road bike, and a final 5k packed dirt off-road run. The off-road bike is non-technical riding on the west side of the estate, which is typically off-limits to regular guests at the estate. Individual participants or 2 or 3 person relay teams available. Kids can join in on the fun also! We recommend a relay team option. The bike rider must be at least 10 years old for any relay team.

The Gravel Grinders
The Asheville Gravel Grinder Bike Events come packed with something for every type of rider, a 20, 40 or 60 mile option. Whether you are a seasoned athlete, a weekend warrior or scenery seeking rider, these events are for you! The Gravel Grinder Bike races are the only bike events at the estate that allows the participant to access the front of Biltmore House on their bike.

10k Off-Road Run
The Asheville 10k Run at Biltmore features a newly designed, off-road 10k, featuring some paved, packed dirt and trail that takes the runner to a marvelous adventure with new views of the Biltmore House.

“Our love for bikes runs deep at New Belgium, all the way back to our founding, “explained Tour de Fat Brand Manager, Sam Sawyer. “Tour de Fat is our Bike Love manifested in a way that uniquely blends fundraising, beer, bikes and bemusement. The touring ensemble cast includes Handsome Little Devils, Sedan Halen, Daredevil Chicken, and KOLARS. All world-class performers, Daredevil Chicken are celebrating a particularly big year after delivering a winning performance on ABC’s “The Gong Show.”

“The goal for this year’s tour is to provide a low-cost, family-friendly event that’s jam packed with quality entertainment and amazing beers,” said Sawyer. “Tour de Fat is ever-evolving, and New Belgium’s employee owners are proud of the Tour de Fat’s carnival of creativity that gives back to communities.”

“Local Packs and Troops raise funds to provide support for Scouts in their service area,” said Committee Chairman Dan Little. “Funds are typically used to provide assistance for Scouts from economically challenged communities by sending scouts to summer camp, provide scouting handbooks, uniforms, “Boys Life” magazine and payment for the national Boy Scouts Of America annual recharter fee and purchase flags for our veterans’ graves.”

On Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop 17 honor our deceased veterans at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery by placing flags on their graves.

Boy Scouts Serving Others: Since 1910, over 4,000 young men in Western North Carolina have earned the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Through their Eagle Scout service projects, thousands of community service hours have been conducted to benefit our communities. In addition, other Scouts from local Packs, Troops and Crews also perform thousands of additional service hours on an annual basis. Scouts in Western North Carolina performed over 40,000 hours of community service in 2016.

About the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts: The Cub Scouts program is for boys in first grade through fifth grade. Boy Scouts is a program for boys 11 to 18. Both programs are designed to develop character, citizenship, and fitness. Through the advancement program and peer group leadership scouting helps a boy develop into a well-rounded young man. The Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank in scouting, is recognized around the world as a mark of excellence.

In Boy Scouts, individual members take responsibility for the activities of the troop. By planning and organizing activities, they develop teamwork and learn to lead as well as follow.

Music: 6:30pm, doors open at 6pm
Cost: FREE with a suggested donation at the door

Christmas Jam Session Ale 2018-
From the opening chord to the final encore, this hop-heavy beer is the perfect match for an all-night party. Brewed for Asheville’s one-of-a-kind musical marvel, the annual Christmas Jam, this session ale features bright hop flavors of citrus and stone fruit with just a hint of piney hop character–all in a well-balanced and easy-going package, just right for jam-worthy drinkability.

Selwyn Birchwood-
“With his fiery guitar and lap steel playing, his trailblazing, instantly memorable songs and gritty, unvarnished vocals, Birchwood is among the most extraordinary young stars in the blues. His deep familiarity with blues tradition allows him to bust the genre wide open, adding new sounds, colors and textures, all delivered with a revival tent preacher’s fervor and a natural storyteller’s charisma.”

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity-
“Safe and decent housing provides families an opportunity for stability, security and personal and professional advancement. Yes, we build houses and help preserve existing homes, but we also change lives.”
