The Adventure Center of Asheville is excited to host the 10th annual Haunted Trail, Asheville’s only family friendly haunt! This event is ideal for Halloween lovers of all ages, 3-12 being the suggested age range. This is the third year in a row the Adventure Center has hosted this one of a kind live outdoor theatrical experience where guests are promised an entirely immersive and interactive spooky night out while also ensuring no contact. Every year the show is loved by boils and ghouls from all over WNC and we hope to see you there! For younger guests who still aren’t sure about being scared, even for fun, a “Sweet Peek Tour’ is offered nightly at 6:45 pm. The trail is actor free at this time and they can decide if they would like to re enter the line and receive the full show. The Treetop Adventure Park Aerial Glow Trail is also available for guests 4 years or older to enjoy at this event! Climb on two of our aerial trails while they are illuminated with thousands of colorful twinkle and laser lights. If you want to enjoy both of these amazing activities, combo passes are available and WILL sell out, so make sure you reserve your tickets early! *The Haunted Trail does not sell out, however the entrance closes at 9 pm. Don’t miss PIRATES COVE! Here at Mission Health, we are committed to improving more lives in more ways. We are partnering with local law enforcement agencies on Saturday, October 29, to host Crush the Crisis, a prescription drug take-back event.
HCA Healthcare is committed to bringing frontline solutions to curb the tide of opioid misuse and addiction in the communities that we proud to serve. On Saturday, anyone in the community can safely and anonymously drop off unused and expired medication for proper disposal. HCA Healthcares Crush the Crisis events across the country will align with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
During last year’s event, Mission Heath collected 110 pounds of unused and expired
medication as part of Crush the Crisis.

Come out in a family friendly costume with your well behaved dog (costumes highly encouraged) and help raise funds for Eblen Charities work! All dogs will receive a treat, and all humans will be entered into raffles for prizes. All funds raised go to our work to keep people housed, with working utilities and other essential needs. Register by October 7th to be guaranteed a tshirt.

Join us at the Leicester Library for a free, six-class series from the NC Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). You’ll learn will learn new recipes, nutrition tips, and easy at-home exercises. Our presenter will focus on practical skills for feeding your family nutritious meals and snacks while helping you stretch your food dollars.

These classes are open to any adults who are interested in learning more about healthy eating and basic food prep.  Samples of the recipes may be provided.

Amanda Parrish Morgan lives Connecticut with her husband and two kids where she teaches at Fairfield University and the Westport Writers’ Workshop. Stroller is her first book. Some of Morgans’s essays have appeared in the 2021 Connecticut Literary Anthology, Guernica, The Rumpus, The Millions, n+1, Electric Literature, Carve, The American Scholar and the Ploughshares Blog. She has also written some pieces about long-distance running and teaching (her other fascinations) for JSTOR Daily, The Washington Post, Real Simple, Women’s Running and ESPNW.  

Maria Teresa Hart is a writer, editor, and dulce-de-leche addict. Her articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Vox, The Washington Post, Teen Vogue, and other outlets. As an editor, Maria has worked for various publishers, including Penguin Random House, BenBella Books, and Bloomsbury. She lives in Beacon, NY with her partner David and spends her free time googling facts about dormice.

Susan Harlan is a writer based in Winston-Salem, NC, who is particularly interested in the relationship between place, memory, and objects. Her essays have appeared in publications including The Guardian US, The Paris Review Daily, Guernica, Roads & Kingdoms, Racked, The Morning News, The Awl, Curbed, Atlas Obscura, Nowhere, The Common, Literary Hub, The Bitter Southerner, The Brooklyn Quarterly, and Public Books. Susan writes about feminist issues for venues such as Jezebel, The Toast, DAME, The South Carolina Review, The Belladonna, Queen Mob’s Tea House, and The Hairpin. She also writes satire for McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, Avidly, Janice, and The Billfold.
