Director Ben Hope adds “Having spent many years working on various productions of Ring of Fire (this production will be my personal 10th!), The most extraordinary thing I keep finding about Mr. Cash is how unanimously loved he is, even now, 20 years since his death. No other project seems to attract such a varied and enthusiastic crowd as the music of Johnny Cash. I think it’s because he wrote for the ordinary. His words and music are authentic and simple, and he speaks plainly about things we all connect with. He was fallible, with personal demons and shortcomings. He makes us feel like our own imperfections are normal and mundane, and he teaches us that there’s beauty and hope, even in despair. I love Johnny Cash, and I know Flat Rock audiences are going to love Ring of Fire’.”

The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass is America’s premier large brass ensemble. A group that always reflects the diverse makeup of men and women in the American culture, RMPBB is dedicated to the notion that music is a gift to be enjoyed by everyone.
A veritable “dream team” of virtuoso brass players, The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass had its beginnings on the streets of New Orleans. We have three opportunities for you to help Connect Beyond AND see some music! We need volunteers to assist with wristbands for three shows this summer at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville in Downtown Asheville, N.C. Shifts are roughly (3) hours and all participating volunteers will also receive (1) free ticket to stay after and watch the show. The following dates and shows are available:

JACK MARION AND THE PEARL SNAP PROPHETS
Jack Marion and The Pearl Snap Prophets bring a youthful-exuberance and high-country swagger to the doorsteps of modern country music. The North Carolina-based band has spent the past 4 years in honky-tonks, bars, and mountain roadhouses, collecting fodder for songs along the way. There are songs about living; written in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They are straight-from-the-hip and straight-from-the heart. No bull-honky. All truth. But they are just as catchy as any songwriting-factory-formed mega hit that will ever curse your ear.

LORD NELSON
This year saw Lord Nelson release their third full length album, Transmission to strong press and reviews. Thanks to radio play across the country, it cracked the Billboard Americana Top 100 and the band toured nationally to share the songs with the road. It is a rowdy, rock-forward record that intends to bring people together. Dance, sing in the car, hum under your breath, crank up on the stereo, don’t take life too seriously for a few minutes. This musical comedy cabaret will have you questioning your dining dos and don’ts for years to come. After waiting tables for nearly 20 years, one-of-a-kind comedian Darron Cardosa created a blog to release his frustrations about the industry: Writing stories on the Internet, he explained, seemed better than attacking annoying customers with a fork. Now a widely renowned, side-splitting live show, Darron offers a glimpse into the inner monologues of tired waitstaff everywhere — all with a musical twist. Contains adult content.

ELEANOR UNDERHILL & FRIENDS
In 2014, with a desire to create a band rooted in the Asheville music scene, Eleanor Underhill (of the internationally-acclaimed Americana group, Underhill Rose) pulled together several top-notch performers to create a powerhouse side-project: Eleanor Underhill & Friends. Each member brings their own musical instincts and influences, resulting in music that is fresh and far-reaching.
Featuring all of the members of “& Friends,” Underhill’s debut solo effort, Navigate the Madness, was released in 2018 to wide acclaim: Named one of the Top 10 Releases of 2018 by Bill Kopp (Musocribe) and voted in the Top 100 International Releases by WNCW radio listeners. Asheville Citizen-Times called it “…a stunning work of a gifted, visionary singer-songwriter. With her open-back banjo, soulful and luminous vocals as the common thread, there isn’t a cliched lyric anywhere among the collection of playful, sublime and deeply affecting songs.” (Jim Simpson)
The group’s follow-up release in 2020, Land of the Living, digs even deeper into Underhill’s psyche and reaches even farther into new musical landscapes. The result? American Songwriter premiered the track “Strange Chemistry” and said the album was “…Tales told in motion, with dynamic harmonies.” PopMatters weighed in, saying that it was, “…An emotionally powerful collection that inspires repeated listens.”
In 2021, a live performance by Eleanor Underhill & Friends was featured on PBS-syndicated Echo Sessions along with a cover story in CenterPiece Magazine. 2022 is shaping up to be another hallmark year with the release of the group’s third album Got it Covered, packed with sixteen tracks of fan-favorite cover songs.

Air Supply are an Australian soft rock duo, consisting of English-born co-lead vocalist and guitarist Graham Russell and co-lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock. They had a succession of hits worldwide including “Lost In Love,” “All Out Of Love,” “Every Woman In The World,” “The One That You Love,” “Here I Am,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Even the Nights Are Better,” and “Making Love Out of Nothing at All”. The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) inducted Air Supply into their Hall of Fame on 1 December 2013.

Experience poetry unlike you’ve heard before with this collective of performance poets. The Dead Poets take center stage resurrecting classic words of the likes of Shakespeare, Hughes and Frost with expert musicianship and whit. Then be swept by the literary prowess of Redmond and entertained by Wolf.
Each with their own performance style and acclaimed in their own right, have spent nearly 30 years performing regionally and nationally, educating through the power of verse.
This Friday, January 20th sees the LP and CD release of Wilco’s 12th album, Cruel Country, deemed one of the best of 2022 by The New York Times, NPR Music, Rolling Stone, Variety, Stereogum, Aquarium Drunkard, and more. Today, the band announces its Spring 2023 North American tour in continued support of that album. Wilco will begin with a series of three night residencies in Chicago, Port Chester, NY, and Reyjavík, Iceland, with promise of no repeats in each city. Following those events, the band will visit cities all over the south east not yet visited in support of the album. Drabble Forms & Author Talk with Arlene Hemingway
Want to write and don’t know where to begin? Nurture your intuition? Or just have some FUN writing? Drabble writing may be for you! Derived from Monty Python’s Big Red Book, the drabble form is a short work of fiction—a complete story—with precisely 100 words, no more, no less. Sound easy? Surprisingly, it’s not! But you will learn to distill the essence of a situation and convey it with power and concision. You will also learn how to create a great drabble, and take a crack at your first! I promise it will be an adventure and bring you both new skills and insight. Got an idea for a book? Something that you needed to talk to someone about? A problem to solve? Drabbling can be a path for getting you there!
She will also be sharing from her book, A Twist of Lemon: 100 Curious Stories in Exactly 100 Words.
About the Author:
After graduating with a Master of Science Degree from Juilliard School of Music with a major in organ, Arlene became a piano teacher and a vocal music teacher in a Long Island public school system, and served as organist for religious services of various faiths. She performed with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at Radio City Music Hall, worked numerous other musical events in New York, and launched a composer’s new work at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
Following her professional retirement from music, Arlene concentrated on other healing arts: She is a certified hypnotherapist and Reiki Master, and holds additional certifications in Regenesis (a method of reprogramming DNA) along with other techniques. During a visit to a writer’s group in Farmingdale, NY, Arlene discovered the “drabble,” a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. She was hooked! A recent move to the Asheville, North Carolina area gave her more room to breathe, listen, and write.
When asked about a relationship to Ernest Hemingway, her reply is often, “I’m the other Hemingway; the one without the six-toed cats.” Arlene has discovered that every person, place, or thing is rich with stories wanting to be told… and she has just scratched the surface.

Our beautiful greenhouses are over-flowing with spring vibes and are full of unique plants, live music, a mechanical bull, h-e-m-p goodies, and fantastic vendors, ready to launch us into the warm season.
Come experience one heck of a unique venue as we have bluegrass jams, a set with HUG – Hendersonville Ukulele Group, the Substandards, almost madi, and a SURPRISE band! We’ll also have all the Farm Fam favs like Lauren Daviss of @fiddyshadesofgreen, Amy and Jesse Ross, and MS. SUSIE (#protectmssusieatallcosts).
Almost Madi will be joining us to play gentle tunes as you peruse our wonderful line-up of craft vendors, which will include artisan food vendors like App Wyld, as well as beautiful jewelry, amazing art, glass blowers, ceramics, and of course a wide selection (and maybe even a few special drops) of green goodness from Appalachian Standard!
The Spring Fling is *FREE* to the public. Parking is available on site but can be limited so it is recommended that groups carpool. This is an outdoor event. The first 100 people to join us will receive a goodie bag!
