Join us in kicking off the Summer season with this special introductory price! Our workshops last between 1-2 hours and include all information and materials needed to create a fun, living terrarium. This class is perfect for beginners or experienced crafters!

Instruction covers learning about air plants, care tips, design principles, and more. We include everything needed to create your terrarium, from the container and plants to fun additions like shells, driftwood, gemstones and crystals, figurines, and more. A gift box and care instructions are included to ensure your success. Participants are welcome to bring (waterproof) figurines or other design additions that they’d like to incorporate into their terrarium.

We have been an active club since 1924. We currently have 65 active members of all collecting interests and meet once per month to share programs, auctions, ideas, buy, sell & trade stamps, and just plain camaraderie. Many of our members have extensive collecting, exhibiting, or speaking experience, and discussions are always interesting and rewarding. New and developing collectors will find an audience ready and willing to help with expanding one’s knowledge and enjoyment of the hobby.

Western North Carolina is in an interesting geographical location: we get visitors from the north during the winter, from the south during the summer, and many people who decide they’ve had enough of either of those climates to move here permanently! We urge visitors of any age with philatelic interests to join us, even if only for a short time. We may even convince you to enjoy our region full-time!

We are hosting a virtual screening of Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s (The Roots) debut film documentary SUMMER OF SOUL (…OR, WHEN THE REVOLUTION COULD NOT BE TELEVISED), the winner of both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival, as part of our “Connecting Beyond: A Digital Journey and Celebration of Creativity, Learning, and Connection” 2021 program.

The exclusive screening will take place on June 25 at 7:00pm ET, prior to the film’s worldwide premiere in theaters and streaming on Hulu on July 2. In addition to the screening, guests will also experience a Filmmaker Q&A Panel Event featuring soul music icon Gladys Knight and the Film’s Producers Robert Fyvolent and David Dinerstein. The panel will be moderated by Connect Beyond Festival alum Dr. Natalie Hopkinson, Associate Professor of Communication, Culture and Media Studies at Howard University.

What are you doing to create equitable spaces within our profession and community? What can we as Architects do to create spaces that promote equity and diversity in Asheville?

Join us for a mini film festival on Sunday July 11th at 4pm at Rabbit Rabbit! Films will focus on Black and minority architects and explore some of the social constructs that have created our current world. We hope to open the conversation between the public and architects and explore the role architecture can play in justice, equity diversity and inclusion.

Music on Main features a diverse line-up ranging from pop, oldies, rock, to contemporary music – there’s something for every musical taste! The family-friendly event offers concessions such as hot dogs, ice cream, pretzels and lemonade for sale.

Classic car shows are held in conjunction with Music on Main. The car shows are located in front of the Wells Fargo between Barnwell and Caswell Streets, which will be closed to traffic. For more information about the classic car shows, contact the Carolina Mountain Car Club.

Bring a chair and enjoy an evening of live music from 7 pm-9 pm.  The audience seating area opens after 5:30 pm, early admission is prohibited.  Admission is free. Alcoholic beverages, backpacks, or coolers are prohibited.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be postponed until 8pm.  If the weather does not improve by 8 pm the performance will be canceled.

The Library Advisory Board and Buncombe County Communications & Public Engagement invite the community to take part in an upcoming feedback session. This series of feedback sessions is designed specifically to gather input on the proposed Library Facilities Master Plan, and will focus solely on facility structures and locations. The Center’s newest documentary film focuses on the iconic moonshiners.  Rather than the stereotypes of lazy, drunken mountaineers, moonshiners were some of the most entrepeneurial and creative farmers in a community who not only provided a public service but helped to put food on the table for themselves and their communities.  The stories are both heart-rending, funny and moving and open a window into the soul of the Southern Appalachian world that’s rapidly vanishing.

All screenings include live music by Apple Country String Band or Bandana Rhythm as well as a talk with the director and local moonshiners. The screening at North River Farms is drive-in theater event with a food truck.

This is a general admission event.  Tickets vary by venue in order to maintain social distancing.  As social distancing rules change, we will update this site which may make more (or even less) seats available.  Right now, each site has limited capacity and tickets are expected to sell out quickly.  As a special offer for our ticketbuyers, if you purchase the DVD along with your tickets, you get $5 off the DVD price and save the additional $5 shipping and handling.  (Do not choose this option until after you’ve bought your tickets first or you will be charged a $5 processing fee to return your money.)

This is a ticket-less event.  Your name will be at the reservations table at the door at the time of the event.  Outside venues are subject to weather dates if necessary.  Your tickets are automatically good for these weather dates should the event not go on for the original date.  All sales are final and tickets are non-refundable once purchased.
