The upcoming Journeyperson course is now available AT NO COST! Due to some timely grant funding, we can offer this in-depth farmer training for farmers in years 3-7 with no associated tuition fee! The course consists of monthly cohort meet-ups and 2-3 in-depth workshops, plus mentorship!
In addition, a select number of participants will also receive matched FUNDS for your farm savings account (Savings Incentive Program) and money to spend on a professional development opportunity of your choosing! TAPAAS is an arts-integration program that implements high quality artist residencies to create craft and performance experiences across all curriculum. Since 2010, TAPAAS has impacted more than 9,000 students, trained over 55 artists, and provided more than 850 days of artists in residence. Teachers report that 94% of TAPAAS residencies scored as ‘excellent’ in student enthusiasm and participation; student understanding of the curriculum was deeper when taught as a creative project, and there was increased parent engagement in the classroom. Now in its 11th year, TAPAAS has maintained the ability to be a cost-effective, far-reaching program with a profound impact on both individual artists and students in our community. In 2021, Asheville Area Arts Council partnered with the Asheville City Schools Foundation and the Buncombe County School District to expand programming into Buncombe County Schools– increasing the depth and breadth of this program.
Verner Center for Early Learning is a nonprofit agency providing high quality, affordable early care and education to children birth to five years of age throughout Buncombe County. The mission of Verner Center is to foster holistic learning environments where young children and families thrive. The organization embraces a philosophy that includes excellence in early childhood practices, diversity among children and families, and partnerships and collaboration with families and communities. This philosophy is demonstrated through provision of high quality education, family services, health and nutrition services, and professional development for teachers.
We are currently looking for compassionate volunteers to support our experiential garden.
Volunteer Opportunity Includes:
- Pulling weeds
- Cleaning out garden beds
- Prepping new garden beds
- Building small projects
- Mowing
- Weed eating
- Laying mulch
- Watering
Volunteer Requirements:
- Respond to the shift
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions
- Comfortable bending, stooping, twisting
- Ability to stand for 1-2 hours at a time
Brandon, who taught our Garden Planning workshop in January, is back again to show you the basics of food preservation. Canning, root cellaring, and drying techniques can all help keep your pantry stocked with your garden bounty all year long.

Caribbean Herbal Medicine Course with Brandon RuizJoin Brandon Ruiz for a 5-week, 20-hour online course consisting of ten 2-hour classes on Caribbean Herbalism. Participants will cover the basics of plant medicine in the Caribbean as well as tropical ecology, history, recipes, religious healing, and more! Students will also receive a bundle of freshly dried Caribbean plants for hands-on medicine making, alongside access to a digital database of Caribbean plant medicine information.

The NC Farmers of the Foothills, initiated in 2020, is an alliance of farmers looking to pool resources and market their goods to the community. There are opportunities to sell with an online marketplace, multi-farm Community Supported Agriculture, and other local food purchasing programs. The alliance also looks to share in costs of production and other expenses.
Join us to learn and have input on this alliance for 2023.

Join WNC Medicinal Herb Growers for an afternoon of networking with fellow growers, wholesale buyers and other professionals working with medicinal herbs. Highlights include:
- Buyer presentations and “most wanted” lists
- Opportunities for growers to share product samples of available herbs and planting stock
- Small group roundtables with local and domestic buyers
- Networking and celebrating medicinal herbs grown in North Carolina
The Buncombe Partnership for Children and Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty invite you to an evening for BPFC’s Reach Out and Read partnership, bringing books to children and families. Bid on great silent auction items including art, gift baskets, classes, fine food and drinks, and gift certificates. Donations are also gratefully accepted. Help meet the ambitious goal of $9,000 raised for early literacy.
Together with French Broad Pediatrics and Our Family Doctor, BPFC gives over 3,100 books per year to children ages birth to 5 at their doctors’ visits. Pediatricians use books in these appointments to encourage families to read, sing, and talk with their kids. Then each child takes a book home. For some families, these books are the only ones they have in their homes.Parents in the program are 2.5 times more likely to read with their infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. And children’s language development is improved by a whole 3-6 months by the age of 5!
Inspired by nature and following the self-published released of How to Heal the Planet from Wherever You Are, Cortina Jenelle introduces Oshanna Church of Spiritual Activism, with Oshanna debuting as a dynamic experience rooted in ceremony and inviting nature as a co-facilitator through theater, art and spoken word. After each production, all ticket proceeds are donated to a mission partner who is doing work in service to Mother Earth while also furthering truth, healing and reconciliation across race, gender and class.
Black Starseed: Immaculate Conception is the second installment of the Black Starseed series, which goes back in time as a prelude to Black Starseed: Revolutionary Reimagination (2020) – a debut partnership between adé PROJECT and PechaKucha Asheville co-creating a storytelling experience in voice of Black women at the intersection of creativity x spirituality. In this prelude, the life story of Cortina Jenelle becomes a moving memoir and an embodiment of a shared story from the matriarchs of Black, indigenous descent in a world where femininity, Blackness, sovereignty and indigeneity were not just criminal, but a threat to society. Black Starseed: Immaculate Conception may appear to just tell the story of one, yet is actually one version of the same story that constantly loops through time. Do you know how purposeful, brilliant and divine you already are, Starseed? This is heart song of the black sheep generation + millennials, and those born torn between ancestral remembrance and playing the game of life to win. Join us in a gathering of art, theater, ceremony (with a bonus book signing post-show) and storytelling and leave reminded of how to heal the planet from wherever you are.

Enjoy a guided tour on our beautiful Community Farm and see all the terrific projects we have in the works. Participants will hike The Discovery Trail in a 2-mile loop, returning to our education and event center. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch to enjoy there while overlooking the entire farm and surrounding mountains
