The Blood Connection: Save Lives with the Asheville Tourists!
Aug 4 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
Asheville Tourists
    • All blood donors will receive a Dugout mug and two free tickets to a future Tourists game. All donors will also receive a hot dog lunch and drink.

The Blood Connection, the non-profit community blood center, and the Asheville Tourists are proud to renew their partnership to support the local blood supply in the Western Carolinas while bringing baseball fun to blood donors across the region. The Asheville Tourists are a longstanding member of the Lifesaver League – a group of minor league sports teams committed to serving their community through hosting blood drives and encouraging blood donation.

“The Blood Connection are wonderful partners and we look forward to doing our part to help the Western North Carolina communities.  Providing a convenient location as well as a great ballpark hotdog to the donors is a small contribution for all the great work The Blood Connection provides our area,” said Tourists General Manager Larry Hawkins.

The Tourists have called Asheville home for decades and have been a consistent partner of The Blood Connection.  TBC is the community blood center serving the Carolinas, and is the sole blood supplier for Mission Health, Advent Health, and Pardee Health, among a dozen others across the mountains. After a year of historically low blood donor turnout, TBC is even more reliant on partners like the Tourists to host successful blood drives this season.

“Our Lifesaver League partnerships are a longstanding tradition within The Blood Connection, and we are excited for another season hosting drives with the Asheville Tourists,” said Delisa English, President and CEO of The Blood Connection.  “We’re looking forward to reaching more potential blood donors across Western North Carolina by bringing our blood donation opportunities to Tourists fans and McCormick Field.  Local hospitals certainly need their donations desperately.”

OUTPACE HUNGER

FEED PEOPLE AND YOUR PASSION!

What Is Outpace Hunger?

Looking for a way to make a real impact this spring and summer? Feed people while pursuing your passion through Outpace Hunger, an action-based fundraising campaign that turns a favorite activity into meals!

For decades, MANNA FoodBank has been working to outpace hunger and food insecurity all across 16 counties of Western North Carolina, including the Qualla Boundary. The 2022 campaign runs May 1 through September 30, and we invite you join the growing community of folks who are Outpacing Hunger alongside of us!

How It Works

Participating in Outpace Hunger is easy!

You decide your level of commitment, so every participant can create their own path to helping provide food to our community. Participants also decide how, when, and where they complete their goal, any time now through the campaign end on September 30.

Outpace Hunger participants:

(1) Register to be a part of MANNA’s Outpace Hunger community. The $20 registration fee includes a t-shirt for you and provides 80 MEALS for neighbors facing food insecurity in WNC.

(2) Choose a favorite activity (run, walk, roll, stroll, hike, bike, paddle, climb, float, skate, golf, and everything in between!) to complete individually, or as a family/group/team.

(3) Set a goal to reach. This can be an activity-related goal, a fundraising goal, or both.

(4) Invite friends and family to support your fundraising efforts through your own, personalized Outpace Hunger webpage.

Whether running a 5K, walking your neighborhood, hiking the Mountains to Sea trail, or paddling the French Broad River, Outpace Hunger participants play a vital part in ensuring our WNC neighbors have access to healthy food

Reset Your Nervous System for Relaxation with Jot (Lauren Cox)
Aug 6 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Asheville Community Yoga

Yoga teaches us that we are each born whole, complete, and perfect!! Due to our many life experiences we tend to forget this state of wholeness, we forget who we truly are, and we get lost in our physical, mental, and emotional reactions to life. It is important for us to remember that the human nervous system simply cannot evolve at the rapid pace that society and technology has. Hopefully through what you learn in this workshop you can begin to extend yourself a bit more grace during natural moments of challenge and upset.

During this experiential workshop we will utilize a holistic and traditional approach. Working with breath-work techniques alongside intuitive Yin, Yoga Nidra, and shaking meditation to reset the nervous system back to a state of ease and relaxation.

My hope is that through this workshop you’ll acquire a wide array of simple yet profound tools that you can skillfully use as you learn to access your current state of being and what your needs truly are.

Community Benefit Sale at Linville River Pottery

Linville River Pottery

Linville River Pottery studio building

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, Linville River Pottery will hold a Community Benefit Sale at their studio in Pineola, NC. 75% of all proceeds will be donated to the Blue Ridge Conservancy and the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.

Linville River Pottery is owned by Patti and Dan, who moved to the area full time in 2008. Since Patti was six years old, she has been working with clay. Patti views experimenting with clays and glazes as an immersion into the wilderness. This passion shows in the beautiful clays pieces created and in their dedication to benefiting the community around them. We invite you all to come out and enjoy supporting local artists and environmental conservation!

The Sale will feature stoneware and porcelain bowls, mugs, and vases—all handmade on a kickwheel by Patti Connor-Greene. The hours are from 11 am – 3 pm or until pots are gone; no early sales. Cash or checks only; no credit/debit cards.
