Buncombe County face covering requirement expires as COVID-19 metrics continue to improve.
COVID-19 metrics are continuing to improve overall. Since Jan. 18, there has been a 67% drop in new cases per 100,000 per week. The current new case rate is 386 new cases per 100,000 per week. Buncombe County is continuing to see a fairly rapid decline from week to week in new cases. Additionally, the percent positivity continues to decline and has fallen from 19.6% last week to 15.5% this week.
Hospitalization indicators are now more favorable and there has been a considerable drop in inpatient hospital beds occupied with COVID-19 from last week to this week. Last week, the percent of inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 was 13.4% and is now 8.8%. As of Monday, there were 104 total patients with COVID-19 in the Mission Health System as compared to a peak of 196 patients three weeks ago. ICU utilization continues to fall and is now well below 30%.
Deaths, unfortunately, have increased. Sadly, 21 new deaths were added to the dashboard, however, only 9 of these occurred in the last week. The remaining deaths occurred in weeks previous but were delayed in being reported. This has caused the local death rate to jump to 8 new deaths per 100,000 per week. It is likely that the death rate will fluctuate for several more days or weeks as deaths are the most lagging of all the indicators.

The Asheville Train Show is the WNC Model Railroaders annual event. This show makes it a great family outing for kids of all ages. You will find anything, and everything, related to trains in all scales, plus books and videos. Also, many memorabilia items of all sizes and real to replicas of interest to all.
Asheville Outlets has announced a Cultural Marketplace Pup-Up in celebration of Black History Month to be held on Saturdays, February 5, 12, 19 & 26, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Suite 348 next to Gap Factory. The Cultural Marketplace will feature over twenty vendors offering original art, handmade apparel, health, wellness, and beauty products, jewelry, candles, and one-of-a-kind gift items.

Dawn walks participants through what to expect in a tranquil and reassuring way. The bespoke sound healing journey can be tailored to support your life experience. Grounding gongs, timeless & soaring singing bowls, refreshing chimes, a relaxing ocean drum, amongst other instruments help us to re-imagine life and bring fresh air to the intensity that life naturally brings. Dawn welcomes groups up to 7 with space to lay down, more are welcome if seated upright. Private group or individual sessions are happily arranged in addition to the time shown here, please contact Dawn. We can also do sessions instructing how to play the instruments if booked specifically for that goal. Please also contact for private sessions where we can focus on specific support for your current life experiences. We will wear masks for these events following local guidelines.
Dawn has studied music since childhood and has enjoyed practicing massage therapy for 21 years helping people relax and relieve pain. Since 2015, Dawn dove deep into sound healing utilizing gongs, singing bowls, harmonium, and various bells, chimes, whistles, and drums. She has studied with numerous teachers including Mitch Nur, Mike Tamburo, Mehtab Benton, and Mike Cohen, exploring how sound affects our bodies and brains through physics, physiology, and biology.

Hope and Tara will take you on a journey of the senses. While drinking in the sacred sounds of the music, we take that the ability to listen and to feel even deeper within. We tap into that intuitive sense of knowing; how and when to move and when to be still. Join us for an orientation to the Museum’s VALLEY HISTORY EXPLORER HIKING SERIES, which consists of 8 hikes to historic locations around the Swannanoa Valley, one in each of our communities. The hour-long orientation will cover specifics of each hike. The orientation will take place at the Swannanoa Valley Museum at 223 West State Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
This series was developed to introduce the significant history of the region to visitors and residents of the Swannanoa Valley through moderate, approximately 3-mile hikes to historic locations. More information…
Hikes generally occur on the 2nd Saturday of each month (March – October) at 9:00am and meet at the Museum. Each hiker will receive a punch card that serves as a log and validation of the completion of each hike.

Celebrate International Women’s Day 2022

The MakeHER Market at Reynolds Village
The MakeHER Market returns on Saturday, March 5th in celebration of International Women’s Day in a new location at Reynolds Village in North Asheville.
The debut event was held in 2019 as a way to highlight and create connections between the talented community of Asheville female entrepreneurs. International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated worldwide in early March to honor the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Among its missions, IWD 2022 strives to “imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”
The 2022 MakeHER Market will raise money for HelpMate and feature 20 female, independent creatives, makers and designers and their unique, hand crafted goods. Fair Trade coffee, jewelry and home décor as well as locally made art, accessories and botanicals will be available to purchase. Created and organized by Fair Trade companies Incite Coffee Co. and Maadili Collective, as well as Hello, Gorgeous! Professional Bra Fitting & More, all women-owned, local Asheville companies. In addition to shopping for local vendor goods, guests can donate to the Hello Gorgeous! Bra Drive for HelpMate, a year-round program to provide courageous survivors with bra fittings and gently loved, cleaned, and curated bras. The MakeHER Market event aims to honor the empowerment and enterprising ventures of diverse women locally and abroad.
All participating vendors will be fully vaccinated against Covid 19 and the event will follow the Buncombe County mandates for Covid protocols for all guests.
Event hours are 11am to 5pm, admission is free and families are welcome.
