Jul 2 all-day
Online
Governor Roy Cooper announced the $4 Million Summer Cash and College Tuition drawings to incentivize individuals to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations and to thank those who have already done so. This announcement means that four vaccinated North Carolinians 18 and older will win $1 million each and four North Carolinians ages 12 to 17 will win tuition for post-secondary education. Executive Order 219, which has concurrence from the North Carolina Council of State, authorizes the drawings.
North Carolinians 18 and over who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine will be automatically entered into four drawings for a chance to win a $1 million cash prize. Youth between the ages of 12 and 17 who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be automatically entered into four drawings to win $125,000 towards post-secondary education. The $125,000 can be used at any post-secondary institution and is awarded in the form of a NC 529 account.
North Carolina joins other states that announced million-dollar drawings to promote vaccinations. Ohio, the first state to launch such a program, reported a 28 percent increase in vaccinations among those 16 and older in the first two weeks following the announcement.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, 44% of the total population has received at least one dose of the vaccine and 41% of the population is fully vaccinated.

Getaway Comedy featuring Jeremy Alder + Kenyon Adamcik
Jul 2 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Getaway River Bar

This week Getaway Comedy has TWO headliners for the price of one!
Jeremy Alder loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. No, wait, that’s someone else. The self-described “bad boy of Christian homeschooling” weaves the experiences of his own poorly-planned life into smartly stupid, sweetly dark comedy. Jeremy has worked with a number of national touring acts, including Aparna Nancherla, Nicole Byer, Josh Gondelman, Rita Rudner, and Chad Daniels. He is a regular at Goodnight’s Comedy Club and The Improv in Raleigh, NC and has been a featured performer at comedy festivals around the country, including Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, Asheville Comedy Festival, and Cleveland Comedy Festival, where he was selected as a Best of the Fest. Jeremy is a two-time North Carolina’s Funniest finalist (2018, 2019) and a finalist in the 2019 Westside Standup Showdown in Los Angeles.
Kenyon Adamcik’s bio:
“After realizing that getting a decent SAT score wasn’t Kenyon’s true calling in life, he started stand up in high school and has gone on to open for Todd Glass, Tim Dillon, Ian Edwards, and Big Jay Oakerson. His comedy has also been featured on Sirius XM. Kenyon is a sought-out comedian in Chicago and is a regular at the Laugh Factory, Zanie’s and Comedy Bar, along with Good Nights and Helium. Growing up biracial with disabled parents, Kenyon brings a unique perspective to the stage that leaves audiences wanting more.”

Beauty Parlour Comedy featuring Blaire Postman
Jul 3 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Asheville Beauty Academy

Comedian Blaire Postman is your high energy, fast-talking,
faster-thinking, GenX, ADD cool aunt with no chill.
She’s been featured by the PBS NewsHour podcast, The Happy Trucker Radio Show, and streamed on dozens of NBC affiliates across the country via Roku.
Blaire headlines indy clubs, features for renowned headliners at large clubs across the country, and has been selected to perform by many prestigious comedy festivals, including SF Sketchfest, Limestone & 10,000 Laughs. She also regularly appears at clubs and established alt comedy rooms in New York.
She’s perhaps best known for her signature flip-chart comedy bits, including The History of Super Bowl Halftime Shows (though she wants you to know that she also has many excellent non-flip-chart jokes).
In June 2021, she debuts her one person show – Struggling Chartist – which threads together a selection of her signature flip-chart comedy bits with a narrative exploring the ramifications of living the first 35+ years of her life with undiagnosed, and then undertreated, ADHD. Blaire explores how it is she came to embrace, love and succeed with her ADD “tornado” brain – and how the comedy flip charts and her ADD are related. While there were challenges, the tale largely reveals the many advantages – comedic and otherwise – that come with thinking differently about things. And who better to teach the upside of thinking differently than a person who’s been officially diagnosed as a differently-thinker?

Blue Ridge Humane Offers Pet Loss Peer Support Group
Jul 7 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Onlinew/  Blue Ridge Humane Society

Blue Ridge Humane Society knows how difficult the loss of a loved pet can be, and to support grieving pet owners, is offering a new peer support group with a professional group moderator.

The free program will provide a safe and non-judgmental space for members of the community to come together to support one another through their loss and grief of their beloved pet(s).

Sign-up is required and the sessions are limited to 20 participants. Sessions will be held via Zoom on the first Wednesday of the month, 6pm-7pm. Registration will be open for the first session until Friday, May 28, 2021, or until full, whichever occurs first. Registration is available at www.blueridgehumane.org/pet-loss-support/

“Pet loss is the worst part of being a pet owner. Our pets are family. Every pet is different and brings a unique light into our lives. The loss of that light can be devastating. Coping with grief, especially in today’s world, is a difficult process,” shares Angela Prodrick, Executive Director of Blue Ridge Humane Society. “We at Blue Ridge Humane Society feel it is important to help people navigate that time of mourning and offer what support we can.”

The sessions will be moderated by BRHS staff and led by Judi Moolten. Judi is a former clinical social worker, with a PhD certificate in Stress and Somatic Psychology. In addition to being a stress coach Judi lives and resides in Hendersonville. Judi comes to BRHS as a volunteer, but also as a pet parent who uses animals to help heal stress and more! Judi also has suffered many losses during COVID-19 and beyond and will be available to just listen, or when requested offer feedback.

Pet loss and grief can trigger intense emotional responses that may need to be addressed with professional resources which is beyond what BRHS is able to provide through the Peer Support group. This cannot to take the place of professional counseling and therapy.

Additional info or support for those who have suffered the loss of a pet can be found at The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement https://www.aplb.org/.

Getaway Comedy featuring Joe Pettis
Jul 9 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Getaway River Bar

Joe Pettis started performing stand-up comedy in 2008 in the hopes of one day gaining enough relevance to warrant a Wikipedia page. He has traveled all over the United States – mostly by Megabus – sharing his mistakes with complete strangers in return for validation through laughter. He has shared stages with the likes of Doug Benson, Doug Stanhope, and at least one other Doug.
His two IMDB credits (which he found after googling himself) stem from his appearances on Daytime Fighting League on Adult Swim and Getting Doug with High on VPN. He is also a regular on Doug Loves Movies and pretty much any podcast that will have him. Joe has performed at multiple comedy festivals including the Nashville Comedy Fest, Laughing Skull Comedy Fest, Burning Bridges Comedy Fest, Cape Fear Comedy Fest, and is the resident comedian at the SweetWater 420 Festival.
As the founder of 1UP Comedy, he is well regarded for producing some of Atlanta’s best comedy shows. He currently hosts the longest running brewery show in the country at SweetWater Brewing Company. His former show at Joystick Gamebar was named one of the “5 Cool Things to Discover in Atlanta” by Rolling Stone Magazine. In 2017, he founded Resurgens Fest, the only comedy festival in the city to focus exclusively on local talent while raising money for the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence.
