Join the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, October 23 at Pack Square Park (80 Court Plaza) in Asheville to help ignite Western North Carolina’s fight against breast cancer. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the 5K walk starts at 10 a.m.
Funds raised at this noncompetitive, family-friendly event enable the American Cancer Society to save lives from breast cancer by investing in groundbreaking research; providing free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by the disease; and helping people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable.

Celebrate movement with Movement for Life Physical Therapy! The physical therapy practice will be offering free 20 minute workouts at each of their four locations in Candler, North Asheville, South Asheville and Hendersonville throughout the day, as well as giveaways and raffle prizes from local community partners.
Movement for Life Physical Therapy regularly treats patients with Parkinson’s Disease through their Knock Out Parkinson’s program, which they recently expanded to offer at all WNC clinic locations. Knock Out Parkinson’s is a non-contact boxing program, utilizing a combination of cardiovascular exercise, weight training, balance skills and boxing.
While there is no cure for Parkinson’s Disease, evidence has shown people who participate in high intensity exercise programs make positive gains in all stages of the disease, as well as protect important areas of their brain. The mission of Knock Out Parkinson’s is to give people the power and motivation to battle Parkinson’s Disease. The program works to improve the mental and physical capabilities of those with Parkinson’s Disease through movement and enhance their quality of life.
The Knock Out Parkinson’s Challenge on October 23rd will offer a taste of what the program is all about. The event is open to folks of all abilities, whether or not you have been affected by Parkinson’s Disease.
Movement for Life Physical Therapy takes the health and safety of its community very seriously. Masks are required at all clinic locations.

We are so excited to share the news that New York Times bestselling author of Where the Crawdads Sing, Delia Owens, will keynote Literacy Together’s 13th Annual Authors for Literacy Dinner & Auction on Thursday October 28, 2021 at the Crowne Plaza Resort Expo Center.
Where the Crawdads Sing is her first novel, with more than 11 million copies sold worldwide and over 2 ½ years on the New York Times Bestseller List, it is soon to be a major motion picture.
Proceeds from the Authors for Literacy Dinner & Auction will benefit Literacy Together’s programs to help people rise out of poverty and get better-paying jobs to support their families. Currently, Literacy Together supports more than 250 students and over 4,300 book recipients in Buncombe County.
The Authors for Literacy Dinner & Auction begins with a cocktail hour for general admission guests while our Platinum Corporate Partners and other VIP pass-holders join the featured author for a private reception. During the reception, the author will be available to answer questions, take photographs, and personally inscribe books. Next, all guests enjoy a three-course dinner, a presentation by a Literacy Together student, and a keynote presentation by the featured author. The evening will close with a book signing for the general admission guests managed by Malaprop’s Bookstore.
