MAINSTAGE

BLOODBATH: VICTORIA’S SECRET

Written and Directed by Jamieson Ridenhour

As “Tori Piper,” Victoria Leigh was once the darling of mid-to-late eighties low-budget horror—she was the go-to final girl of a dozen or so B-level slashers. Then she filmed the cult classic Sorority Bloodbath, a cinema verité horror film plagued by rumors of sinister occurrences on-set. Then she vanished, fueling a subset of fan conspiracy theories.

In 1999, Victoria Leigh is planning a quiet New Year’s Eve dinner with her girlfriend, but things aren’t working out. People keep showing up at the apartment, and some of them may have sinister intentions. Deadly intentions. Add in a crazed young wanna-be agent and Tori’s former lover / co-star who has hidden motivations of her own, and the pressure and terror mounts quickly for the former scream queen.

But as the night lengthens and the body count grows, more questions arise. Who is really the hunter and who the prey? And what really happened on the set of Sorority Bloodbath all those years ago? To what lengths will a final girl go to survive?

BREACH OF PEACE
Oct 8 @ 7:30 pm
North Carolina Stage Company y w/ Virtual option

written and performed by Mike Wiley

On May 24, 1961, 19-year old Jean Thompson boarded a Trailways bus in Montgomery, Alabama with 11 other young Freedom Riders bound for New Orleans – and history. Within three months, approximately 300 other riders took up the mantle to desegregate buses, following the path of the first brave few. Mobs bloodily assaulted many. Others were arrested. Wiley’s drama BREACH OF PEACE is based on true accounts of surviving participants of the Freedom Rides and others involved in the early struggle for African-American equality. This solo-play is a living monument to those remarkable young men and women of various races, religions and backgrounds who rose to face the dangers of fighting for just and equal treatment for all.

We hate to say farewell to summer, but we have a couple of shows left in us! (AND a special Autumn presentation; see below.)

Director Jason Williams took on a daunting task presenting Pericles and Macbeth in repertory, but by all audience accounts, he knocked it out of the park.

So here we have the final two performances of “the Scottish play” this weekend and a cast and crew wanting YOU to come see it, or see it again.

Bundle up and bring a blanket and some cocoa. We are going to make you FALL for this show all over again!

The Fangmeyer Theatre at HART

In this transcendently powerful new adaptation, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit, and determination. An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, The Diary of Anne Frank captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence — their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief. Hadestown The Musical NEW DATES: Oct 5- 10
Oct 8 @ 8:00 pm
Peace Center

show

Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards® and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this acclaimed new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (NatashaPierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today… and always.

Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
