Amanda Parrish Morgan lives Connecticut with her husband and two kids where she teaches at Fairfield University and the Westport Writers’ Workshop. Stroller is her first book. Some of Morgans’s essays have appeared in the 2021 Connecticut Literary Anthology, Guernica, The Rumpus, The Millions, n+1, Electric Literature, Carve, The American Scholar and the Ploughshares Blog. She has also written some pieces about long-distance running and teaching (her other fascinations) for JSTOR Daily, The Washington Post, Real Simple, Women’s Running and ESPNW.  

Maria Teresa Hart is a writer, editor, and dulce-de-leche addict. Her articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Vox, The Washington Post, Teen Vogue, and other outlets. As an editor, Maria has worked for various publishers, including Penguin Random House, BenBella Books, and Bloomsbury. She lives in Beacon, NY with her partner David and spends her free time googling facts about dormice.

Susan Harlan is a writer based in Winston-Salem, NC, who is particularly interested in the relationship between place, memory, and objects. Her essays have appeared in publications including The Guardian US, The Paris Review Daily, Guernica, Roads & Kingdoms, Racked, The Morning News, The Awl, Curbed, Atlas Obscura, Nowhere, The Common, Literary Hub, The Bitter Southerner, The Brooklyn Quarterly, and Public Books. Susan writes about feminist issues for venues such as Jezebel, The Toast, DAME, The South Carolina Review, The Belladonna, Queen Mob’s Tea House, and The Hairpin. She also writes satire for McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, Avidly, Janice, and The Billfold.

Five years later, the band would release one of the most popular albums in the history of the recording medium, The Dark Side of the Moon. Bill Kopp’s book, Reinventing Pink Floyd charts the creative path the band would navigate in the years leading up to that landmark album. Reinventing Pink Floyd provides a wealth of information about the band’s early days, but those stories are more than mere trivia. Taken together, they provide a detailed picture of the ways in which the group changed its original direction. With the benefit of hindsight, most everything Pink Floyd did between 1968 and 1972 was a step on the road toward making the epic album, The Dark Side of the Moon. Kopp will share some of those anecdotes – stories about moon landings, ballet performances and purposeful recycling of musical material – in a lively and engaging presentation. About Bill Kopp: With a background in marketing and advertising, Asheville-based writer Bill Kopp got his professional start writing for Trouser Press. After a stint as Editor-in-chief for a national music magazine, Bill launched Musoscribe in 2009, and has published new content every business day since then. The interviews, essays, and reviews on Musoscribe reflect Bill’s keen interest in American musical forms, most notably rock, jazz, and soul. He also researches and authors liner notes for album reissues, and co-produced a reissue of jazz legend Julian “Cannonball” Adderley’s final album. Reinventing Pink Floyd, published by Rowman & Littlefield, is his first book. A paperback edition will be available in September.

Jazz Sunday at One World Brewing West is a modern jazz jam held every Sunday afternoon from 1-4pm. Previously known as Jazz Monday, the jam has been running non stop since July, 2018 at the West Asheville brewery and is hosted weekly by The Fully Vaccinated Jazz Trio, consisting of Ray Ring on guitar, Jason DeCristofaro on drums, piano and vibraphone, and Connor Law on bass. Jazz Sunday typically features a guest artist for a short set and then welcomes jazz musicians of all levels to sit in for the remainder of the afternoon on One World’s spacious outdoor stage.

This is a hybrid event, meaning there is an option to attend virtually and a limited amount of seats available to attend the event in-store. Sarah Cooper is the author of two poetry collections: Permanent Marker (Paper Nautilus, 2020) and most recently, 89% (Clemson University Press 2022).  Her poems also appear in Lunch, Sinister Wisdom, Iron Horse and other anthologies and literary journals.  Currently, Sarah is a PhD candidate in Rhetorics, Communication and Informational Design at Clemson University. Her dissertation project explores how spatial practices intersect with lesbian identity. She is a professor of Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies at Clemson University where she received the Holman Award for teaching, was a 2021 LGBTQ+ Faculty Excellence Award winner, a 2022 Gentry Award winner for teaching excellence and the 2022 Tee A. “Things can be idyllic and then ugly,” Barbara Costas-Biggs writes. “A basket of pears in ochre, then piss the same color.” In Broken On the Wheel, the familiar is made strange, as it is in dreams. Acoustic guitarist, JAY BROWN hosts our bi-weekly Local Live series featuring a variety of talented local musicians.  Jay grew up playing folk guitar with his parents and has continued to pursue a career in music as a singer-songwriter and roots musician.

Tonight Jay shares the stage with UTAH GREEN and ERIC EDEN.

Cutting edge and timeless, Eric’s voice and songs are haunting and powerful. His honesty and passion are soulful and authentic. He is an artist!

Eric has recorded two albums: Grooving Up Slowly, A & M Records and Ivyland, Independent Release. Eric is busy working on his next record as well as writing for other artists with his songwriting partner Mark Mazzetti.

Eric’s first record Grooving Up Slowly was produced by Grammy Award winning Producer/Engineer. Hugh Padgham best known for his work with The Police and Sting.

And in what is surely a milestone in Eden’s career, his musical heroes assembled as his ‘in studio band’ to record IVYLAND. Collectively, these musicians have not played together since David Bowie’s “Young Americans” album…until now. IVYLAND has reunited Drummer Andy Newmark (John Lennon’s “Double Fantasy”, Sly and the Family Stone and George Harrison), Bassist Willie Weeks (George Harrison, Donnie Hathaway and Eric Clapton), and Guitarist Carlos Alomar (David Bowie’s favorite guitarist and musical director). Mike Brunner (Eric’s longtime guitarist and LA session musician) completes the musical equation.
