Performances will be April 4th, 5th and 6th at 7 p.m. and April 7th at 2:30 p.m. at the North Buncombe High School James F. Debruhl Theatre. Our Sowing Circle begins at 9:30 am with a Springtime Plant Exchange. Bring your extra plants to share with fellow gardeners and pick-up some new plants for yourself. At 10:15 am, relax and listen to Brannen Basham, co-founder of Spriggly’s Beescaping, give a presentation on Plants for Pollinators. Creating a pollinator garden requires more than just planting flowers, although those are a great start! Learn how to create a pollinator garden that provides forage and habitat year round for a variety of pollinators, along with other beneficial insects and animals. These free events are sponsored by Black Mountain Blooms Seed Lending Library. We welcome you to be apart of our growing community!

Put on a happy face and come audition for the beloved musical comedy, Bye Bye Birdie May 4 & 5. Director, Colby Coren, Music Director, Lenora Thom, and Choreographers, Linda Runion and Mary Susan Goff are thrilled to be teaming up for this production.

Looking for strong singers, dancers and actors of all ethnicities to portray a variety of roles.
Tap Dancing is a plus.

Performances run August 2-18.
Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm.

Auditions will be on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday May 5. Saturday’s schedule will be broken up into auditions for adults and students (Ages 14+). 10:00-11:30 will be adult vocal auditions with an adult dance audition from 11:30-12:00. 12:30-2:30 will be student vocal auditions with a student dance audition from 2:30-3:00. Sunday’s audition schedule will be open for all ages who were unable to attend Saturday, vocal auditions 1:00-3:00 and open dance auditions 2:30-3:00. Asheville, NC – On Saturday, May 4 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., the League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe County and the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont will team up to present WOMEN IN GOVERNMENT, an event designed to inspire young women to pursue careers in public service. The program will feature a panel discussion by five area women who currently hold leadership roles in government and public service. The event will be held in Ferguson Auditorium on the campus of AB-Tech.

Panelists include Terry Van Duyn, NC State Senator; Susan Fisher, NC State Representative; Debra Campbell, Asheville City Manager; Susan Dotson-Smith, NC District Court Judge; and Jill Banks, Sergeant, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department.

Each panelist will share aspects of her personal career journey, including what led her to pursue a career in public service, the path she took to attain her present position, and the challenges and rewards of a career in public service.

The Girl Scouts will have a prominent role in the program, introducing the panelists and asking questions submitted from the audience. An informal “meet and greet” will be held with the panelists immediately after the program.

Come celebrate the beginning of a new gardening season at the Spring Fling Plant Sale! The Extension Master GardenerSM Volunteers of Buncombe County in partnership with the Asheville Blue Ridge Rose Society will host the Spring Fling Plant Sale on Saturday, May 11, from 10 am. to 2 pm. The sale will be held in the parking lot of the American Red Cross, 100 Edgewood Road, off of Merrimon Avenue in Asheville. The sale will be held rain or shine.

The Asheville Blue Ridge Rose Society will sell many varieties of roses, including own-root, fragrant, miniature, and old garden roses. Expert rosarians will be on hand to help you choose the perfect rose and to give practical advice on growing and caring for roses.

Extension Master GardenerSM volunteers will offer a variety of sun and shade perennials, with a focus on natives and pollinator friendly selections. Plants are grown by Master Gardeners with tender loving care. We will also offer a nice selection of garden accessories. Personal shoppers will be available to assist you with the best plants for your special space, give you plant suggestions for Mother’s Day gifts, and answer your gardening questions.

We will also be offering an on-going pruning tool sharpening workshop. Bring your small hand tools (pruners) and loppers to learn how to clean and sharpen them. This is a free workshop but donations are greatly appreciated.

At 5’2″, comedian Jenn Snyder packs a whole lot of funny in her one-two punch style of comedy. Topics ranging from her days growing up as a lesbian in a “good ol’ boy” town, to her dealing with the public on a daily basis, this comedian will pull you in with her stories and leave you wanting more with her quick wit and hilarious observations. Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, her ultimate goal is to unite all people through laughter.

Dan Gill is an actor and stand-up comedian originally from Coralville, Iowa. He performs infrequently and co-hosts the monthly stand-up show, Idiots, in Los Angeles. Gill is known for his work in films like The Wedding Ringer, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, and Creative Control. He has also appeared in The Office (NBC), The Comedians (FX), & two failed television pilots for FOX. Gill is also featured in dozens of national ad campaigns for companies like State Farm, DirectTV, Honda, and Amazon. Dan currently co-hosts the hit wedding podcast, Groomzillas, on the Forever Dog Podcast Network.

David Venhuizen is a Los Angeles based comedian originally from South Dakota. He has performed on the LA Riot, Moontower, SF Sketchfest, Green Gravel, Crom, Orlando Indie, and Hell Yes comedy festivals. He also runs a stand-up show called Idiots at The Clubhouse in Los Feliz every Wednesday and performs in the sketch group The Fringe Riders with Dan Gill and Colin McCormick. He drives a truck and has recently been trying to get into jazz.

Eric Dadourian is a comedian born and raised in Los Angeles. He has appeared on The Meltdown at Meltdown Comics, in addition to Holy F*ck at the Downtown Independent as well as SF Sketchfest. He is a beautiful boy and went to Julliard.

Come and be inspired with new ideas for your garden! Join us for, Beyond the Garden Gate, tour starting at 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Coordinated by Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers (EMGV), this year’s self-guided garden tour showcases 5 diverse gardens, including The Learning Garden. The Learning Garden is a newly developed group of gardens established by EMGVs which are intended to demonstrate to the public sustainable gardening practices relevant to our area.

This biennial event features unique home gardens designed and tended by Master Gardener volunteers, as well as The Learning Garden. Learn while you explore the private gardens and educational demonstration sites at The Learning Garden. The Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to answer your gardening questions and provide helpful information.

Tickets for this special event are $20 and available for purchase beginning on April 15th online at buncombemastergardener.org, NC Cooperative Extension Buncombe County Center at 49 Mt. Carmel Rd., and at EMGV events. Tickets may also be purchased on garden tour day at the Tour Registration Table at the Asheville Visitor Center, 36 Montford Avenue in Asheville. Shari Diaz is a Bronx, NY native who switched up her stomping grounds for Raleigh, NC in 2014 where she got her feet wet in standup comedy. Her crossover appeal, crowd working skills, and Latin flavor has quickly built a platform and a diverse following ranging from hipsters to moms screaming for a night out. With all the positive feedback, she founded Boogie Down South Productions as an avenue for local comedians to collaborate and bring forth gut wrenching shows. Shari Díaz is also a Co-Producer for the first official Raleigh comedy festival called, Oak City Comedy Festival. In 2019, she moved back to the Bronx to pursue comedy where she has been booked consistently on some of the hottest comedy shows in the NYC Comedy scene and produces a monthly comedy show in the Bronx called, “Bodega Comedy”.

Her accolades include opening for one of the original “Latin Kings of Comedy”, Joey Medina. In addition, she has set the stage for comedic geniuses, the Lucas Bros and Maria Bamford. Shari has been performing at comedy festivals around the country, such as, North Carolina’s Comedy Festival 2018 & 2019 in Greensboro, NC, Big Pine Comedy Festival 2018 in Flagstaff, AZ where she won “Best of Fest”, BTF Comedy Festival in Philly 2019 and Dallas Comedy Festival 2019, DC’s Comedy Festival 2019, and will be performing at the Midwest Queer Comedy Festival in August 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky. Shari Díaz was also a Finalist on 2018’s NC’s Funniest Contest at the legendary Goodnights Comedy Club in Raleigh, NC.
