(Flat Rock, NC) Musical students, alumni and instructor Dewitt Tipton of Furman University will perform a special choral evensong and organ recital Sunday, June 23rd. It will be held inside the sanctuary of The Episcopal Church of Saint John in the Wilderness at 4pm.
“The music program of the church is pleased to offer this service to the community in commemoration of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, our patron saint,” says Tipton, also organist and music director of Saint John in the Wilderness.
Featured choral music will come from across the centuries, including recently composed organ pieces by Robert Powell of Greenville, South Carolina. Maggie Ramirez, Abbie Schlictmann, Salleigh Harvey, Will Booker and Shalick Smith are among the performers.
Tipton adds, “The lovely and contemplative service of Choral Evensong is one of the most beautiful traditions of the Anglican Church. Included in the liturgy are hymns, ancient canticles, scripture readings, prayers, choral anthems and organ music.”
Admission is free, however donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit the newly constructed Parish Hall.

Andy Sandford is a comedian who got funny in Atlanta, GA and is now based out of New York City. Andy has performed his jokes on Conan and The Late Late Show with James Corden, as well as other, less prestigious shows. Andy’s debut album, Me the Whole Time; was one of Splitsider’s “9 Best Standup Albums of The Year.“ His hour special, “Shameful Information,” is currently featured on Amazon Prime. Sandford even played an animated version of himself on Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The Village Voice called him, “one of New York’s comedic gems;” and despite all of this, he has managed to remain humble.
-“It’s a testament to Sandford’s deep well of material that midway through his album, he’s telling stories that most comics would save for their closers” – The Spit Take
-“It’s been said that the best comedy comes from pain. If that’s really the case, then somebody must have kicked the shit out of Andy Sandford…Sandford is a skillful linguist who carefully plays with pitch, tone and timing to spice up his jokes” – Creative Loafing Magazine

Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. Dear Evan Hansen is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it.
Dear Evan Hansen has struck a chord with audiences and critics everywhere, including The Washington Post who says Dear Evan Hansen is “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theatre history.” The New York Times calls it “a gut-punching, breathtaking knockout of a musical.” And NBC Nightly News declares the musical “an anthem resonating on Broadway and beyond.”
The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Dear Evan Hansen, produced by Atlantic Records, made an extraordinary debut at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 – the highest charting debut position for an original cast album since 1961 – and went on to win the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. A special edition coffee table book authored by Levenson, Pasek, and Paul, Dear Evan Hansen: through the window (Grand Central Publishing / Melcher) is now available, offering an in-depth, all-access look at the musical, including never-before-seen production photos and cast portraits, behind-the-scenes stories, and a fully annotated script by the authors.
Dear Evan Hansen features a book by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy, Tony, and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).
