Asheville, NC-based BrassFunkRock band Empire Strikes Brass has a lot to say with a big sound. Their brand new 11/11/19 release is a 10-track album entitled “Brassterpiece Theatre” and it lives up to its name. Chock-full of serious groove from a thumping rhythm section highlighted by lush horn arrangements played by a thick horn section, this 2nd studio album is a funktacular dive into the band’s compositional roots as well as its’ creative and collaborative soul. There’s a lot of depth in these original tunes that speak volumes to ESB’s evolution.

Rolling Stone Country named CJ Solar one of their “New Artists You Need to Know,” so we just wanted to introduce you.
Heavily influenced by the music he grew up around, Solar fuses country, Southern rock, and Delta blues to create a sound that is uniquely him. His second EP Get Away With It featured Top 15 singles “Airplane” and “American Girls,” and their success led him to be named 2019 “Independent Artist of the Year” by MusicRow CountryBreakout Awards and nominated for “Breakthrough Artist-Writer” at the 2019 MusicRow Awards. On the road, he’s performed across the country and has had many dreams come true along the way, including a show at the Grand Ole Opry and opening for his heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, and Hank Williams, Jr.
An extremely talented songwriter, CJ recently celebrated his second #1 country single as a writer with Jameson Rodgers’ debut “Some Girls.” His first #1 was Morgan Wallens’ “Up Down,” a smash hit featuring Florida Georgia Line that garnered CJ an ASCAP Award and the Nashville Songwriters Award for “10 Songs I Wish I’d Written.” Other co-writing credits include Jason Aldean’s, “I Don’t Drink Anymore,” Kyle Park’s “What the Heaven,” Jerrod Neimann’s “Blue Bandana” and “The Regulars,” and Justin Moore’s “Between You & Me.”
Get ready to rock and roll with CJ and his band as they kick off our White Claw Concerts on Sunday, May 30!

Direct from Broadway, Mean Girls is the hilarious hit musical from an award-winning creative team, including book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde), and director Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).
Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. Soon, this naïve newbie falls prey to a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.
New York Magazine cheers, “Mean Girls delivers with immense energy, a wicked sense of humor and joyful inside-jokery.” USA Today says, “We’ll let you in on a little secret, because we’re such good friends: GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!”
Asheville Gallery of Art opens with a new show in May, “Seeing in Color: Life on the Bright Side,” featuring the vibrant acrylic paintings of gallery artist Bee Adams. Viewers can expect to see the colorful artwork Adams is known for, saturated with optimism and bursting with sunny hues.
Adams grew up in a home that celebrated and nurtured her artistic expression; her mother, grandmother, and aunt were all artists themselves. Adams calls Asheville home but spent a significant period of her adult art career in Colorado, inspired by the bold graphic mountains against the forever blue sky. While she started off creating very organic shapes and landscapes in her paintings, a move to Brussels, Belgium added another layer of artistic inspiration as she fell in love with European architecture. The ornate, colorfully-roofed buildings all nestled together sparked an appreciation that would guide much of her later work. Surrounded by this muse, along with regular museum visits to view masterpieces by artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Adams honed her unique style and color palette.
In “Seeing in Color: Life on the Bright Side,” Adams’s whimsical spin on architectural paintings is showcased. “Buildings especially intrigue me and create a sense of place, community, and story,” Adams says. “ I become enchanted with a building, whether an iconic landmark or a simple barn, then once the dance of painting begins I really study the structure and shapes and the uniqueness of the building and have time to wonder at its purpose.” Asheville locals will recognize some familiar downtown landmarks that have been infused with energy and personality such as those illustrated in “Pack Square Jewels,” which highlights iconic buildings like the new Asheville Art Museum presented in primary colors against the backdrop of a lucid cerulean sky.
Adams’s paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the United States and Belgium and included in collections worldwide. Recently she had the honor of painting a custom commission by Auburn University for a treasured donor. Even with her extensive travels and exhibitions, Adams continues to approach her work with lightheartedness. “I am a serious painter,” she states, “but I don’t create serious paintings. I give myself permission to have fun, to play.” Her sense of humor is evident in “My Exotic 2020 Travels,” which features a well-loved armchair donned with a cozy throw and open book. Viewers can see this artwork and more starting May 1st at the Asheville Gallery of Art.
There will be a special “Meet the Artist” reception on First Friday, May 7th, from 5-8pm, when Adams will be present to talk with visitors about her artwork.

- There are significant social, economic and environmental benefits to promoting Agritourism in your community. It’s the perfect way to educate people about your community.
- Agritourism experiences show off the social dimension of agriculture. When consumers connect with the families and farmers growing their food, they leave more likely to advocate for and spend more on local foods.

How is the app growing in North Carolina?
- The pilot project was launched by Orange County in the fall of 2017. After their investment and initial success, the app expanded to other counties.
- The project is now live or in development with 37 North Carolina counties. Recent additions now in the development phase include Durham, Guilford, and Alamance counties.

- The Visit NC Farms App is now reaching nearly 10,000 active users (and counting).
- Data from active app users provides crucial information to better meet app user needs and stakeholder goals.
- “The key is for rural communities to recognize that they have valuable assets, one of which is the very nature of rural life. In an increasingly congested and impersonal world, there is great appeal to a close-knit community. The qualities associated with rural life are particularly conducive to the creation of entrepreneurial ecosystems and the free flow of information, skills and resources…”
- Don Macke has nearly 40 years of community economic development and policy experience, is the co-founder of the Lincoln, Nebraska-based Center for Rural Entrepreneurship and director of the center’s entrepreneurial communities solution area.

- Being a part of the app is cooperative advertising. Each farm or community partner also promotes the app to their lists and followers so your audience grows exponentially.
- North Carolina Farm Bureau is supporting this effort across the state.
- As the app grows, the marketing efforts will expand as well. Think billboards!
How much does it cost?
