Tracey Morgan Gallery is pleased to present “Barriers & Boundaries,” a solo exhibition by Sharon Louden showcasing three interrelated bodies of work — paintings from The Barriers series (2023), selections from the Untitled series (2010), and a new wall installation featuring works on paper from Louden’s ongoing and current series, Barriers to Entry (2023–25). Save the date for this year’s annual Handcrafted Holiday Market! This year’s show will run from November 7 through December 18, with the reception planned for Thursday, November 6, 5:30 – 7pm. Regional artists will fill the TACS Gallery with fine and handcrafted goods, rotating their inventory with each week and providing you with ample opportunities for holiday shopping! The Asheville Gallery of Art presents The High Country, an exhibition of oil paintings by John Davis Held. On view November 1–30, the collection invites viewers into landscapes that celebrate the majesty and the mysteries of the mountains. An opening reception will be held on November 7, from 5:00–7:30 pm.

The Black Mountain Public Library is excited to announce that registration is now open for the fourth annual “Write Local Read Local Author & Illustrator Fair” taking place Saturday, November 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
This beloved community event brings together authors, illustrators, and book lovers from across the Swannanoa Valley for a morning of conversation, connection, and creativity. Participants will have the opportunity to meet the public face-to-face, hand-sell their books, and share their stories in a welcoming, literary atmosphere.
The fair is more than just a book signing—it’s a celebration of the incredible talent in our valley and an invitation for our neighbors to discover and support it.
Each registered participant will receive table space for the drop-in event at no cost. Whether you’re an emerging author, an established illustrator, or somewhere in between, this is your chance to be part of the vibrant Swannanoa Valley literary community. Alabama Poets Garrett Ashley & Salaam Green to Headline Asheville Poetry Reading & Book Signing with Holiday Artisan Market

• Garrett Ashley – Author of A Field Guide to North American Trees (Good Printed Things / Loblolly Press, 2025) and Habitats (Loblolly Press, 2026). His limited-run chapbook features poems named after Southeastern trees, weaving ecological awareness with human transformation.
• Salaam Green – Birmingham’s first Poet Laureate (2024–2026), storyteller, and teaching artist. Her forthcoming collection The Other Revival (Pulley Press, Juneteenth 2025) excavates generational memory from the Wallace Plantation, uniting descendants of enslaved people and slaveholders through poetry as a tool for racial healing.

Acclaimed Durham-based cellist Shana Tucker and Saxapahaw-based French choreographer Murielle Elizéon (co-creator of Culture Mill) present When We were Queens…, a powerful multidisciplinary performance presented as a diptych—two solos in conversation.

“When We were Queens… is shaped as a ritual to call the ancestors. It is the whispering of a spell. It is an attempt to reclaim a lost mythology through somatic embodied imagination. It seeks to face the void of erasure for individual and collective healing. It is shaped as a diptych: two solos in conversation to acknowledge both the singularity of Murielle and Shana’s cultural experience (one is French, the other is American) and the common thread running through their experience as women of color from the African Diaspora. The performance convokes the audience for a moment of shared witnessing while acknowledging the complexity of a gaze which has often exoticized our Black and Brown bodies.”

Commissioned by NC State Live, the original development of the work began in 2022 and after subsequent series of museum and gallery residencies, When We were Queens… held its world premiere in February 2024, co-presented by NC State Live and the North Carolina Museum of Art.
