The residents of Buck House were woven in to the fabric of Asheville.
This driving tour begins at the Smith-McDowell House Museum on the campus of A-B Tech and continues through historic sites related to early occupants of the house.

July is the Blue Ridge Craft Trails Month in Henderson County, hosted by the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. Explore three distinct trails guide visitors through the towns of Hendersonville and Flat Rock, and into the Blue Ridge Mountain countryside, showcasing 18 nationally-renowned artists in their studios and galleries on this self-guided tour.

Since the early 1950’s Spruce Pine, North Carolina has been the host of the Festival and welcomed visitors to shop for beautiful jewelry, gemstones, minerals, beads, crystals, fossils and more! Even celebrities have been spotted at the Festival selecting their jewelry, gemstones and gifts! The Festival features gem, jewelry and mineral dealers from across the country showcasing their merchandise to fit every budget. Whether you are shopping for an engagement ring, a special stone for your own setting, a custom designed piece of jewelry or a special crystal display for your home, you can’t miss the NC Mineral and Gem Festival. Mine tours to area mines will be held July 30-31. Reservations are required.

Join us as we explore the history of the French Broad River and its seminal place in the development of Asheville–from the time when Native Americans lived along its banks to the Buncombe Turnpike, the railroad, and industries of yesteryear. On the tour you’ll hear about:

- How the river has changed since the days of George Vanderbilt, Thomas Wolfe, and when NASCAR greats Richard Petty and Junior Johnson raced cars in the area.
- The 1950s when Wilma Dykeman asked, “Who poisoned the river?” in her groundbreaking book, “The French Broad.”
- The current-day thriving River Arts District, the beautiful chain of parks along the riverfront greenway, and the recreational opportunities that abound.
- The great work of the RiverLink and our many partners (government, corporations, civic, non-profit conservation groups, and individuals) that have worked together to protect, preserve, and enhance the riverfront area so that locals and visitors alike can enjoy its beauty and grandeur.

With less than half a decade of programming under its belt, Cold Mountain Music Festival has already been recognized as one of the Southeast’s best goldmines for live music, outdoor recreation, and family-oriented activities. Located just outside of Asheville in one of Western North Carolina’s most pristine stretches of land, Cold Mountain utilizes the vibrant Pisgah National Forest as its playground, and encourages exploration throughout the two-day immersive experience. At the heart of the festival site is the glistening Lake Logan, which boasts plenty of swimming, paddle-boarding, and fishing. Paired with performances by some of live music’s leading forces on the scene and plenty of kid-friendly offerings, the upcoming Cold Mountain Music Festival will offer the trifecta of rustic summer experiences.
Weekend passes are on sale now on the Cold Mountain Music website. General admission passes are available for $75, and youth passes for those aged 12-17 can be purchased for $40 apiece. Overnight camping spots and catered breakfast meal tickets are also available for $75 (per site) and $12-$15 (per person), respectively. Group discounts may be applied for parties of 15 or more. The Bob Moog Foundation is excited to announce its first one-hour virtual tour of the Moogseum. The tour, led by executive director Michelle Moog-Koussa and is open to the international community. Moog-Koussa will be guiding attendees as she lends unique insights while delving into various exhibits exploring Bob’s life, work, and those that inspired him. This will be followed by a 15 minute Q & A session.
Tickets will be available on a “pay what you can” basis. The funding generated from the tour will help support the Moogseum, which has been closed since March 15, 2020, due to the pandemic.
The date of the tour, August 15th, marks the one-year anniversary of the ribbon cutting of the Moogseum, which is located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. It also marks the birthday of famed inventor Leon Theremin, who was Bob Moog’s greatest creative inspiration. Given the occasion of Theremin’s birthday, there will be an added focus on him, and on Bob’s connection to him. Moog-Koussa will be examining the history and circuitry of two of the earliest R.A. Moog theremins from 1954 and 1961.
