This 10-week course will introduce basic principles that are foundational to all Tai Chi movements. Tai Chi is proven to be effective in decreasing pain, stiffness, and risk for falls while improving balance, postural stability, strength, cognitive focus, immune system function, and more. Wednesdays noon -1 pm; August 24th-October 26th. This course has a general public cost of $60. There is no additional cost for members, the course is included. Join Buncombe County Soil and Water Educators for WILD Excursions this summer! These outdoor education experiences are FREE and are for middle and high school students. Part service learning, part experiential education, participants will walk away with an appreciation for Buncombe’s natural wonders. In our Youth Production Classes, students work with directors, an artistic team, and their fellow students to learn and perform an exciting full-length play or musical. Our fall YPC session features A Wrinkle in Time, a fantasy drama about the bonds of family and the power of love through time and space. Based on the much-loved Newbery Medal winning novel of the same name.

Registration begins on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. Tuition will be $350.00 – payment plans and scholarships will both be available.

Ivy Eld’s music dances in the land of paradox. Her voice is simultaneously angelic and rawly human, fiery and red-wine smooth. Her evocative and tender songwriting invites listeners to dive in quickly and deeply, piercing weary hearts and enshrouding them with the fierce love and witnessing they desire and deserve. Her vulnerable, heartfelt lyrics soar through the air on the wings of her transcendent, soulful voice.

A mental health professional for over a decade and a half, Ivy has been privy to the sacred inner worlds of thousands of souls (while navigating her own inner hallways, dark attics, and sun-lit living rooms). This rich interpersonal and intrapersonal experience and her curiosity about the internal landscape saturates her songs. She longs for her music to be an oasis of healing and beauty, a call to deeper respect and compassion for ourselves and for humanity, and also just some plain old fun for the ears. As a solo artist, her shows are intimate, playful, and deep. And when accompanied by her band, her songs become even more layered and potent with the backdrop of rich rhythms and moody, electric sounds.

Ivy considers her music to be another facet of how she shows up in the world in authentic and passionate service— both as a musician and as a therapist. She hopes her thoughtful, earthy, poetic songs will inspire others to look inside—light, shadows, and all—and come home to their deeply worthy selves.

Connecting remote workers to the local business community is central to the AVL Digital Nomads mission. Venture Asheville is again organizing Asheville Entrepreneur Week from 9/12 through 9/16. Our social celebration will be part of the week’s activities. No one ‘socializes’ in Asheville quite like us!

We’re going to the south slope to be close to the festivities. Our first event at Harvest Pizzeria on their rooftop bar, Alta 39. Who doesn’t love a good view of Mt. Pisgah with a cold beverage! So join us up on the top floor (aka the rooftop!), we’ll have our signature name tags to help ease introductions. Rain plan B will be across the street at Catawba Brewing.

We as remote workers are a key component in driving local economic growth, opportunities abound for us to fully participate. We hope to attract other local businesses to our event to come and see just how awesome our members really are.

Join us for a weekly mountain music JAM with players in a round, where the session is focused on regional fiddle tunes and songs! You are welcome to come and listen or to learn and join in. This event supports the Henderson County Junior Appalachian Musician (JAM) Kids Program. Free but donations are accepted. Weekly event takes place at Oklawaha Brewing Company.

Enrollment is now open for an adult improvisation acting class at Hendersonville Theatre (HT). Classes will be taught by professional improvisation actor and comedian Emily Swindal. Classes will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm for 8 weeks starting August 10. The class will conclude on September 28 with a showcase of the students’ work.

Improv Level One: Communicate. Collaborate. Play. is for anyone over 18. Tuition is $180. Hendersonville Theatre will offer a free class preview and information session on Monday, August 8 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.

Emily Swindal lived in New York City for 8 years as an actor and improv comedian before relocating to Hendersonville during the pandemic. Swindal studied and performed improv and sketch comedy writing at New York City’s Magnet Theater and Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Swindal has performed with an assortment of improv teams. Some of her past instructors include Elana Fishbein, Peter McNerney, Ross Taylor, Michael Lutton, and Nicole Drespel. She has a BFA in Musical Theatre from Shenandoah Conservatory.

Swindal’s teaching motto is “growth only happens when you are willing to step outside your comfort zone.” In this class, actors will work at getting comfortable onstage and stepping into bravery while having fun doing it. The class will teach students to have compassion for themselves and their classmates as performers as they learn the fundamentals of improvisation and develop support and spontaneity.

One of the missions of HT is to provide arts education that promotes life-long learning, in a way that inspires, nurtures, enriches, and empowers.

Hendersonville Theater has made masks optional for students, but volunteers, staff and performers are fully vaccinated. No proof of vaccination is required to attend a class.

Sessions are in many ways the heart and soul of Irish traditional music, a place for players to share tunes and socialize. It’s not a performance, but rather an informal situation in which listeners are welcome to participate, whether offering encouragement, singing along on a chorus, or asking questions about the music and instruments. White Horse sessions regularly draws players from as far away as Waynesville, Cullowhee, Rutherfordton and even Clayton, Georgia.

The sessions are hosted by Richard and Melinda Halford. Drop by for a beer or a cup of tea and get uplifted by some great traditional tunes and a few new songs.

Due to overwhelming fan requests, 10 new dates have been added to Styx and REO Speedwagon’s “Live & UnZoomed” co-headlining summer ’22 tour. With special guest Loverboy, the legendary Midwest rockers will now bring their epic rock ‘n’ roll show to 45 cities across the nation. JORDY SEARCY
Jordy Searcy is a Louisiana born, Nashville sharpened singer/songwriter, known across the country for jaw-dropping lyrics, stunning vocals, and intricate guitar work – all packaged in intimate authenticity and approachable hooks & production. With over 700 shows under his belt, over 1,000 songs written including cuts & co-writes with arena-sized artists, an appearance on The Voice, and over 51 million streams on his own music, Jordy has made quite the mark for an artist with only two album releases.

In February 2020, one month before the world shut down, Jordy released “Love? Songs” – his debut full-length album packed with the lyrical and emotional depth of Randy Newman and the pop mastery and ingenuity of Olivia Rodrigo. Shows in major markets were selling out, and a
promising album cycle was about to bloom.

Then, as we know, the entertainment and touring industry came to a halt. Jordy responded in the only way he knew how, by converting his touring van into his home, and driving down the California coast from Oregon to San Diego to surf and write a new album.

Three hundred and eighty-seven songs later, the resulting record “Daylight” is his most exciting, mature, and adventurous work to date-with influences like Paul Simon, Pinegrove, Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” album, and Phoebe Bridgers. The album maintains a theme of gleaming
goodness from hard situations. “This is the hardest I’ve ever worked on an album. I think this really is the record I’ve been trying to make since l first started writing songs, and I believe in these songs so much.”

With the Tik Tok-viral lead single “Molly” earning over 100k streams and major Spotify playlist support in its first week, the upcoming album promises excitement with each new song. It’s not all internet hype though. Jordy played 40+ shows on his Fall 2021 tour, complete with pin-drop
VIP experience acoustic sets and high energy light shows.

Daylight will be out one song at a time, releasing in full in Spring 2022 accompanied by incredible live shows in most major markets. For Jordy, things seem to only look brighter from here.

JULIANNA ZACHARIOU
It is not uncommon for Julianna Zachariou to hear something like “I am a giant music critic and am very hard to convince, and I just love what you do.” It’s kind of her M.O. — she can show up to any room and make strangers collect themselves into a focused and eager audience. Though she is an accomplished songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and music producer, Julianna boasts that her biggest gift is simply her ability to understand and connect with others. Julianna Zachariou’s newest record, “Hero of Your Heart” is joyfully disarming and now streaming wherever you listen to music. She is based in San Diego with her dog, Goose, and her partner Becka.
