Americans for the Arts Economic Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the Arts and Cultural Sector Survey
This survey is designed to collect information about the financial and human impacts that the spread of the coronavirus has had on arts and cultural organizations. The survey also collects basic information about the participating organizations so that the data can be parsed by specific geographic regions, artistic disciplines, and budget categories.

Due to concerns related to the coronavirus, we have determined that we must close the Asheville Art Museum as of March 16, until further notice. All programs and events will also be postponed until we can safely resume public operations.
Current tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates (TBD). Once new dates are determined, you will be contacted regarding ticket exchange coordination. Event ticket holders can email [email protected], and program ticket holders can email [email protected] with any questions. We ask for your patience during this time and greatly appreciate your support.
We will continue to monitor and assess all developments. The health and safety of visitors, Members, staff, volunteers, and the community will always take top priority in all of the decisions we make relating to the COVID-19. However, this unfortunate reality also comes with a significant economic impact to arts organizations such as ours. Please consider supporting us in mitigating the losses we may suffer as a result from the virus with a tax-deductible donation to the Asheville Art Museum.

A Few Other Smithsonian Tours
A peer-reviewed open-access digital publication of the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC). The Journal seeks to host diverse works by writers and artists of varied backgrounds. We welcome academic articles, essays, reviews, poetry, images and forms of artistic expression.
The latest issue of the Journal of Black Mountain College Studies is now online! Volume 10: Chance I Dance is an exploration of dance and performance at Black Mountain College featuring artists and interpreters of work both past and contemporary. The issue is replete with fascinating videos and photographs, as well as articles and poetry.
We welcome you to submit proposals and submissions for upcoming issues. At the moment, submissions we have already received are leading us to focus the next issue on pedagogies and practices of writing at BMC, and we can accept more contributions related to that theme.
Poetry, images, reviews, academic articles, essays, memoirs, archival material, and media are most welcome. We strongly suggest sending us an abstract or a proposal before you proceed to develop a finished submission. The only criteria are submissions of substance and integrity, and an evident connection with the history and heritage of Black Mountain College in all its diverse educational and artistic practices. Virtual tour
Explore panoramic views of famous sites in 360˚ Street View tours.
On display daily January 18 – April 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the upstairs gallery of the Education Center, the Asheville Printmakers’ newest exhibit, Natural Impressions, will feature a variety of two- and three-dimensional print pieces utilizing numerous printmaking processes. Works will inspire visitors to think about the beauty and fragility of plants and the natural world through various perspectives and printmaking techniques. All pieces are available for purchase and a portion of the sales will benefit The North Carolina Arboretum Society.
Founded in 2013, the Asheville Printmakers is an energetic group of artists dedicated to expressing ideas and imagery through the medium of print. The group encompasses a wide range of processes and content, including traditional methods, such as lithography, woodcut and screen printing, and contemporary photographic printing processes, such as carbon printing, platinum-palladium and photopolymer etching.
Parking Fees

- Personal Vehicles: $14
- Motorhomes / Vehicles (21’ or larger): $50
- Buses: $100
There are no other admission charges required for visitors to access the Arboretum’s grounds and facilities during the day beyond the standard parking fees listed above.

The house, known since the 1930s as Cedar Crest, was built in 1891 for William E. Breese Sr. at a cost of $10,000.
The National Register of Historic Places nomination for this property notes that it “is one of the largest and most opulent residences remaining from Asheville’s late nineteenth century boom”.
Breese, president of the First National Bank here in Asheville, ran into some trouble when in 1897 his bank closed and he was charged with conspiracy and embezzlement.
In the 120 years that followed the home has been used as a boarding house, sanatorium and of course an inn. Luck for us, through all of those lives, the incredible craftsmanship that makes this place so special has been retained. “The most astonishing feature of the house is the robust first floor interior woodwork, executed with a variety of woods and to a degree of lavishness unknown in the region outside of the Biltmore House.”
Today, Cedar Crest Inn is permanently protected through the donation of a preservation easement to PSABC.

This opening reception will take place in conjunction with our True Home Open Mic, where anyone is invited to step up to share song, music, poetry, storytelling, comedy, magic, & other performances in a supportive setting. Mary Montes will present her new collection of art as one of the performances.
Mary Montes is an accomplished painter, in the Flood Gallery residency program, visiting from Miami, Florida. Mary’s new series of mixed-media paintings in oil and pastel on paper and canvas are inspired by the local art history and landscape. She is primarily an abstract expressionist painter, classically trained in figure drawing.
Mary Montes had the opportunity to meet artist Robert Rauschenberg many years ago, which inspired her to research the Black Mountain College and American art history. Mary’s desire to paint in the Asheville & Black Mountain area to find inspiration as well as to pay tribute to her friend Rauschenberg and the artists of the region, resulted in her getting into the residency program at the Flood Gallery.
Mary has had solo exhibitions in Palm Beach, at the Michael Findlay Gallery, Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, NY and Dorfsman Fine Art, Miami, as well as many group shows (Guild Hall, Ashawaga Hall, Quogue Gallery, Sag Harbor Whaling Museum with Peter Marcelle). She is currently represented by Julie Keyes Gallery in Sag Harbor, NY.

We’ve listed a pretty large range of shows because we want to know what you’re interested in seeing on the stage. Please choose your TOP 10 favorites in each category; Musicals and Plays. You will also have the opportunity to write in a title or author that may not otherwise be listed. Please only choose ten of each so we can narrow down your preferences.
As an added note, we endeavor to give you exactly what your heart most desires. That said, there are many factors that go into selecting shows. Are the rights available? Can we afford to produce it properly? Does it align with our Union obligations? These questions and many more are all part of the process and influence what productions we select. It’s important to everyone at Flat Rock Playhouse that we deliver as much of what the audience desires as we can whenever we can.

Grovewood Gallery will celebrate spring with two
days of demos, discounts, and wine on March 20 and 21. The Sip and Shop will take place
from 10am – 5:30pm with artist demonstrations from 11am – 4pm on both days. Visitors
can enjoy complimentary wine while shopping two expansive floors of finely crafted
furniture, ceramics, jewelry and much more, contributed by over 400 artists and
craftspeople from across the United States. Gallery merchandise will be discounted 10
percent. Free parking is available on site.
We are excited to welcome everyone back to Asheville for our Spring market! We are excited about moving over to the larger building where we can offer more vendors indoor and outdoors !
Vintage Market Days® is an upscale vintage-inspired indoor/outdoor market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home décor, outdoor furnishings, consumable yummies, seasonal plantings and a little more. Vintage Market Days® events are so much more than a flea market. Each Vintage Market Days® event is a unique opportunity for vendors to display their talents and passions in creative venues.
Monthly support group meeting of the Hearing Loss Association of America – Asheville Chapter on Friday, March 20th from 4:30-6 pm. Topic is “Advocacy and Hearing Loss” presented by Susan Sacco, Asheville Regional Center – Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. New Location is OLLI at UNC Asheville Campus (Reuter Center), One University Heights, Room 206. CART and ASL Interpretation will be available. No parking permit required. We are working very hard with our artists to reschedule each of these shows to a safer time later this year. We are announcing rescheduled dates as we are able to get them confirmed, and will inform ticket buyers for each event when a new date for their intended concert has been solidified. Tickets will remain on sale while we work on determining a rescheduled date. Fans should hold on to their tickets, as they will be valid for the rescheduled performance date. If you are unable to attend a postponed show, please contact us at [email protected] or via phone during box office hours (Wednesday through Friday 12pm to 5:30 at 828-398-1837). In the event that we are unable to find a new date and a show is fully cancelled, all buyers will be notified and tickets will be automatically refunded at the point of purchase. Please allow at least a week for this to be reflected in your bank account.
The one-of-a-kind “fashion show with a mission” is back for its 6th edition! Join us on Friday, March 20, to see seven Asheville-area fashion designers present color-themed runway collections made from items sourced at local Goodwill stores.
A panel of expert judges will select the first prize winner, who will receive $500. Be sure to cast a vote for the winner of the audience choice award, a $200 prize!

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, in cooperation with the I.R.S, N.C. Dept. of Revenue, Buncombe County Library System and Council on Aging, Inc. will again offer free tax Preparations for low and moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Both Federal and N.C. State tax returns will be electronically filed for safe and accurate preparation with faster refunds.
This service will be available from Feb. 1-April 15, at sites listed below. Please note that some locations have different start dates as several libraries will be hosting early voting for the Presidential primaries in February.
Tax help for Weaverville will be held at the Brookstone Baptist Church and tax help for West Asheville will be held at the West Asheville Presbyterian Church. All tax help locations can be found at irs.gov.
