The Garden Helpline Is OPEN Extension Master Gardeners

Many of us will be spending more time in our gardens as we shelter in place during the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Our gardens will continue to grow and we will continue to have gardening questions.

To answer those questions, Extension Master Gardener℠  Volunteers of Buncombe County will be working from home to keep the Garden Helpline open to the public. We are available to respond to your phone calls and emails. Send an email or leave a voice message at any time and a Master Gardener will respond during the Helpline hours listed below.

The information we provide is consistent with NC State University horticultural research and an integrated pest management approach which includes cultural, mechanical, biological, and chemical methods.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
FRIDAY: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Open March through October.

Asheville Veganfest and THE BLOCK off biltmore are joining forces to bring you the Third Annual MacMomma Vegan Mac and Cheese event!

We will have judges and we will have professional chefs entering the contest.

You’ll get a ballot and circle your favorite and hand it in to our booth to help pick the top entries to the contest.

Music provided by the Block. The bar will be open to purchase drinks. Everything will be compostable.

It will be an afternoon event on April 19 and a fundraiser for Triangle Vegfest (the group behind Asheville Veganfest) and The Block off Biltmore.

The funds will help with expenses for the June 13/14 Veganfest. Triangle Vegfest is a 501(c)3 nonprofit entity.

We love Campbell and look forward to working with her on this and our annual festival.

Garden Walk with Kaita Collie

MEET AT VISITOR CENTER (Outdoor Class)

Enjoy a walk through the gardens with a focus on spring wildflowers, plant communities and the various habitats found in the garden. Discussion will include the ecologically focused management and design techniques we use in the garden. Bring along a loupe and binoculars for more intimate views of the garden and wear weather appropriate clothing. We will walk rain or shine.

 

Kaita Collier is the Horticulture Assistant and Office Administrator at the Botanical Gardens. She grew up in upstate NY and moved south to attend Warren Wilson College where she earned a degree in Environmental Science and Forest Resource Conservation.  Kaita lived in the Florida Keys, the Virgin Islands and Charleston, South Carolina working in the horticulture and environmental science fields before returning the Asheville. She recently earned a Masters Certificate in Horticulture from NC State University.
