Asheville, NC-based BrassFunkRock band Empire Strikes Brass has a lot to say with a big sound. Their brand new 11/11/19 release is a 10-track album entitled “Brassterpiece Theatre” and it lives up to its name. Chock-full of serious groove from a thumping rhythm section highlighted by lush horn arrangements played by a thick horn section, this 2nd studio album is a funktacular dive into the band’s compositional roots as well as its’ creative and collaborative soul. There’s a lot of depth in these original tunes that speak volumes to ESB’s evolution.

Shawn Lane and Richard Bennett started writing songs together two years ago. A few unique songs seemed to have a natural duo feel, so the two decided to spread their musical wings with a duo project showcasing their songwriting, instrumentals, and vocal chops. Their sound that has slightly more folk and jam feel than the music Shawn and Richard release with their respective primary bands. Richard currently helps drive the traditional yet fresh sound of the J.D. Crowe & the New South reunion band, Flashback, while Shawn shines in the legendary multi-award winning supergroup he co-founded, Blue Highway.

That immersion created bonding musical relationships with fellow musicians from diverse musical backgrounds which influence Los Gatos as a band. Their songs sway, they funk, they rock and they pop. The songs lyrically purvay the emotional landscape that make up love, loss and our complicated society. They have shared the stage with artists like Franz Ferdinand, Ozomatli and Scott Weiland.
The band is:
Jeff Santiago – Lead Vocals/Guitar

Lee White – Bass

After discovering The Beatles at age five, Adams knew he would be a musician. The Alabama-native spent his childhood mastering different instruments and felt most comfortable hiding in the background. That was until he started Eastmountainsouth, a pioneering effort in the realm of folktronica. After the duo disbanded in 2006, Adams pursued a solo career built on his unique brand of Americana.
Adams is a storyteller first, sharing tales of love and loss, homes and hearts. His songwriting walks the line of fact and fantasy, and when it comes to drawing inspiration directly from an experience or relationship, he tends to be very careful. In doing so, he strikes the perfect balance of setting scenes but leaving room for the listener to make the stories their own. This unique capability comes after years of collaboration with artists who most align with his writing style, including Peace Center favorite Kim Richey.
These days, you will find him putting his classical composition studies to work on a piece for the violin or piano or promoting his most recent album release, A Face Like Mine.
“Adams is fast developing as a songwriter who both inspires and questions.”
– Los Angeles Times Magazine
“…one of the 21st-century writers whose songs are worth exploring.”
– Wall Street Journal
“…atmospheric Americana style and vocals.”
– Noisey

The Sons of Ralph are the sons of Bluegrass pioneer Ralph Lewis. In the heart of WNC, these masters of Bluegrass are “The Sons of Ralph”. Martin and Don Lewis, Cousin Steve Moseley, and the “other brother” Ozzie Orengo, Jr. have been playing and singing the unique style of bluegrass music since Ralph’s upbringing in Madison County.

Virginian, Keller Williams, released his first album in 1994, FREEK, and has since given each of his albums a single syllable title: BUZZ, SPUN, BREATHE, LOOP, LAUGH, HOME, DANCE, STAGE, GRASS, DREAM, TWELVE, LIVE, ODD, THIEF, KIDS, BASS, PICK, FUNK, VAPE, SYNC, RAW, SANS, ADD, SPEED and CELL. Each title serves as a concise summation of the concept guiding each project. Keller’s albums reflect his pursuit to create music that sounds like nothing else. Un-beholden to conventionalism, he seamlessly crosses genre boundaries. The end product is music that encompasses rock, jazz, funk and bluegrass, and always keeps the audience on their feet. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike. For most of his career he has performed solo. His stage shows are rooted around Keller singing his compositions and choice cover songs, while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, bass, guitar synthesizer and drum samples; a technique called live phrase sampling or “looping”. The end result often leans toward a hybrid of alternative folk and groovy electronica, a genre Keller jokingly calls “acoustic dance music” or ADM.” Keller’s constant evolution has led to numerous band projects as well; Keller & The Keels, Grateful Grass, KWahtro, Keller and the Travelin’ McCourys, Grateful Gospel and More Than A Little to name a few. Keller can be found playing clubs and festivals around the U.S. with these projects throughout the year.

Come out for a night of fun music with a local band that has been performing for many months outside at the Asheville Guitar Bar in the River Arts District. As the winter weather prevents outside shows and the Guitar Bar is not able to hold any indoor concerts IMH has offered the space in our larger room to host the show.
Mark Goldthwaite, Brad Hodge, Greg Hodge, Dave Wendelin, and Joe Daugherty, 5 of the Asheville Guitar Bar’s locally infamous singer/songwriters, are “The Traveling Pilsburys”. Their easy listening style showcases brilliant vocal harmonies and beautiful, original songwriting. Brotherly ribbing and storytelling keep the evenings’ entertainment light and fun. They seriously can’t help but think themselves funny! It’s not true that they’re only in it for the dough!! This is an incredibly entertaining variety show of easy listening and comic relief.
Come enjoy an evening of live music, food and drinks at the Isis Music Hall. Reservations are highly recommended.

The Gray Havens centers around husband/wife Dave and Licia Radford. Since their beginning in 2013, their projects have been hailed as “an imaginative treatment of faith… a visionary quality that’s both playful and enraptured.” They have a knack for creating a listening experience similar to paging through your favorite book, with richly textured compositions and multi-layered lyrics. Releasing their debut EP on NoiseTrade in 2013, and their first full-length album, Fire and Stone, in 2015, the duo has gained a steady following of listeners nationwide.
Their newest release, Ghost of a King, debuted at #3 on the iTunes singer-songwriter charts, rewarding listeners with immersive soundscapes and lyrical imagination. From poetic – almost Shakespearean – imagery to grand epics fit for darkened concert halls, to pop music infused with loops and infectious beats, the album possesses a remarkable range. In the context of that refreshing variety, the album stays cohesive thanks to its exploration of the human condition of longing.
