HCA Healthcare is committed to bringing frontline solutions to curb the tide of opioid
misuse and addiction in the communities that we are proud to serve. On Saturday,
anyone in the community can safely and anonymously drop off unused and expired
medication for proper disposal. Prescription drug misuse is a public health crisis in the
United States. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
109,170 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2022, an increase from 2021.
HCA Healthcare's Crush the Crisis events across the country will align with National
Prescription Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by The United States Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA).
During last year’s event, Mission Heath collected 270 pounds of unused and expired
medication as part of Crush the Crisis.
Items that will not be accepted are: Needles, Syringes, Lancets, Illegal drugs. Together,

The practice of forest bathing encourages you to slow down, relax and reconnect with nature by quieting the mind and awakening the senses.
Join a certified forest therapy guide for a relaxing 2.5-hour stroll through the forest in our stunning Blue Ridge Mountains. Through a series of invitations, you’ll have the opportunity to be present in the moment, deepening your connection with nature and community, and enjoying the many gifts nature has to offer. The walk culminates in a tea ceremony with snacks.
What is Forest Bathing? Forest Bathing is simply a guided walk in nature. Your guide will share mindfulness practices and invitations designed to connect you more deeply to your inner landscapes, as well as the world around you. Inspired by Shinrin-Yoku, the Japanese art of immersing oneself in a forest environment, forest bathing walks invite guests to spend time in nature in a way that invites healing for ourselves, our fraught ecosystems, and our community. It is true nature therapy!
This is essentially a mindful, rejuvenating walk in the forest…no actual “bathing” required.
This experience is great for groups and is a unique team-building activity. Private walks are available nearly every day! If you don’t see your date and time listed, please reach out! I’d love to see you on the trail.

Join us for a fun and informative evening on our journey to wellness through fungi at the Mushroom Wellness Program! This program features four mushroom wellness stations presented by expert wellness educators.
Attendees will be divided into 2 groups and rotate through each of the 4 mushroom wellness stations
for 30 minutes each. Each station will cover a different aspect of the benefits of mushrooms, including skincare, culinary use, and their medicinal benefits.

Nature travels in many expressions “from the earth” to our skin. Ms. Willis will present a wellness approach that focuses on the benefits of mushrooms for the skin and what skin conditions can benefit from a variety of these spore-bearing fruits.
~ Helen Whitlock – The Spa at Capitola Mill
Helen will teach attendees how to cook her Calabrian Grandma’s delicious Mushroom Risotto dish, serving sample tastes with a recipe card to take home.
~ Doctor T. MD – Integrative Medicine
Dr. T will give a mini-lecture on the benefits of mushrooms used in her medical practice. She will discuss the proper dosage of mushrooms as a medicinal supplement.
~ Callan Welder & Chynna Shipp – Marshall Acupuncture & Herb Clinic
Callan will give a mini-lecture on the benefits of mushrooms used in his acupuncture and Chinese herb practice. Attendees will also have the opportunity to try ceremonial cacao infused with a variety of mushrooms.

Their music has been described to be of a sacred quality. Kater with two recent Grammy wins for best New Age album, produces a sound on piano often described as hypnotic and healing. Nakai approaches each performance in a ceremonial manner, singing ancient Navajo chants while playing his flutes and blowing his Eagle Bone whistle. “Every concert they have played together in Asheville, leaves audiences in absolute awe. The chemistry of these two musicians and their instruments does something to us all that is impossible to describe in words”. They have numerous recordings together over the last 30 years and have performed in Asheville 10 previous times to always SOLD OUT audiences. Beginning May 4, 2021, the period between 8 and 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday morning of every month will be reserved for “Meditative Mornings,” a pause for quiet time in our gardens and on our trails. During this time, our working garden crew will abstain from using leaf blowers, mowers and other equipment so you can be sure to enjoy the sounds of birds and the wind in the trees.
Take advantage of half-price parking on the first Tuesday of every month and come out to the Arboretum to enjoy a Meditative Morning!

Thanksgiving is the largest running holiday with families all over the country! Turkey Trots are a great way to start the day. Join us at Biltmore Park Town Square and enjoy some fresh air and exercise before gathering around the table for your Thanksgiving feast! You’ll share miles and smiles with your family and friends as part of this fun, annual tradition.
The race is located in Biltmore Park Town Square in South Asheville, North Carolina. The entire race is run throughout the Town Square and the surrounding neighborhoods within Biltmore Park, and the course is USATF Certified!
The 23nd Annual Asheville Turkey Trot 5K and Gobble Wobble 1 Mile Fun Run presented by Jus’ Running is Thanksgiving Day- Thursday, November 23, 2023. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to MANNA Food Bank. Early packet pickup will be Wednesday November 22 at “The Wedge At Foundation Cloud Room 5 Foundy St Asheville NC from 3:00 pm until 6 pm. There will be late registration there also. Keep in mind shirts aren’t guaranteed during late registration. Race day packet pick up will be at Pack Square Park from 7am until 8:30am. The race starts on Woodfin St in front of the Downtown YMCA and finishes at Pack Square Park. Please note, due to restrictions NO DOGS/ PETS are allowed. Please don’t bring them. The course is not completely closed so this is for safety purposes. Race timing will be provided by Right on Time Productions.

Don’t miss the 4th Annual Ugly Sweater Run 5K and 10K presented by Hunter Subaru! The race is set for Saturday, December 2nd at the Riveter in Fletcher, NC! Ugly Sweaters and holiday cheer are strongly encouraged!
Join iDaph Events for a festive 5K and 10K hosted by the Riveter, the nation’s premier indoor climbing gym, bike park, and wellness arena. The courses start at the Riveter and run along scenic and rural paved and farm roads, and return to the Riveter for even more merriment. There’ll be delicious food, drinks, and refreshments (including adult beverages and coffee), and plenty of activities including a premier bike park and a climbing wall.
The races include something for everyone! A 5k, and a 10k (double loop)! Come join Heather Bauer as we explore the “Active, But Care-full” (ABCs) of falls prevention. This free session at the Weaverville Library is for anyone of any age who is interested in staying strong, grounded, and independent! We will discuss and assess fall risk with nationally recognized tools, share resources, and practice gentle seated exercises. Each participant will take home a falls risk score, prevention tools, home safety assessment, and a greater understanding of what we can do to reduce our risks! Instructor Heather Bauer is a long-time falls prevention coach and consultant, trained in evidence-based falls prevention programming. She has worked in aging services since 2006, in-home care agencies and community-based human service non-profits. She is a firm believer in living well at any age. She lives in Waynesville with her family, facilitates falls prevention programming across the United States, and co-owns a local pickle business where she stays active in farmers markets and works with customers across WNC.
