Beginner’s workshop lesson at 7:30 P.M., then 8-11 P.M. Contra Dance with Country Waltzing at the break and the final dance. This is a partner dance but it’s not necessary to come with a partner. We have different live bands and callers.
TRYON, NC – Gather your Krewe! The Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce will present a Mardi Gras Extravaganza from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday March 2, 2019, at the Harmon Field air gym.
There will be music, dancing and a warm bon fire to keep you going all night! All-You-Can-Eat & Drink, consisting of oysters roasted over an open fire, shrimp, mussels, crawdads, low country boil, barbecue chicken wings, authentic gumbo, coleslaw, rolls, iced tea, coffee, King Cakes and a great selection of draft beers and wine.
Time to get creative, a proper Mardi Gras event has the best masks, so bring yours to be entered to win the Most Unique Mask contest. Masks provide an element of mystery-who will be the lucky winner?

Please join the Girl Scouts of western North Carolina + Asheville Outlets (AshevilleOutlets.com) Sunday, March 10th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the 2019 Girl Scout Week Kickoff event. Activities will include learning how to tie knots, how to market apparel & footwear items, prepare food and develop outdoor skills, and more! Plus, an on-site Girl Scout Shop, games, crafts, a display of Girl Scout uniforms from the last 70 years and a celebration of birthday cake at 3:00 p.m. Girl Scouts, community members, including prospective Girl Scout families, are all invited to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
Girl Scouts is open to girls ages 5-18 in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Adapted from Disney’s beloved animated film and the works of Rudyard Kipling, this musical for the entire family will have the jungle jumpin’ with a jazzy beat! Specially adapted from the classic Disney animated film, Disney’s The Jungle Book Live features a host of colorful characters and your favorite songs from the movie, including The Bare Necessities, and I Wanna Be Like You. Banished by the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, a human boy named Mowgli and his panther friend, Bagheera, are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle. A live, one-act stage production.

Enter into the Rites of Spring with us to celebrate the Equinox and the Cycle of Newness. In this Sacred Equinox Sound ATUNEment, immerse into the indigenous, purifying tones of Sacred Voice, Tibetan and crystal bowls, tank drums, and the exquisite frequencies of gongs. We create a Human Mandala of Sacred Sound and chant the ancient sacred seed syllables of the chakras and connect them deeply within us through mudras. We dance into Newness through ecstatic movement, and end the evening in joy, sharing and copious amounts of chocolate.
We will be seated in a star configuration and once again we will be offering the Inner Mandala Healing Circle and the Outer Mandala general seating. The Inner Mandala Healing Circle is near the bowls and gongs, where you will receive individual Sacred Sound with specialty tuning forks, crystal pyramids and vocal tunings.
VERY IMPORTANT: We will be laying on a hard dance floor. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MATS, CUSHIONING and BLANKETS. It is important that you are comfortable to get the most out of this experience. There are very few mats available and NO cushions or blankets on-site.

The {Re}HAPPENING is an annual afternoon and evening event at the historic campus of Black Mountain College – 15 minutes from Asheville. It is part art event, part fundraiser, and part community instigator, providing a platform for contemporary artists to share their responses to the vital legacy of Black Mountain College by activating the buildings and grounds of the BMC campus with installations, new media, music, and performance projects.

The Literacy Council of Buncombe County will hold “Beauty and the Bee,” an adult Spelling Bee, on April 3, 2019 at The Mothlight in West Asheville. Beginning at 6 pm, fifteen teams of three adults each will compete in the themed, spirited, and zany word challenge.
While the word list is challenging to even the most advanced spellers, this event is not a traditional, stilted spelling bee. Audience members are encouraged to cheer on their favorite teams and can even purchase opportunities to cheat on the spellers’ behalf. Spellers and audience members are encouraged to wear costumes in homage to this year’s beauty-pageant event theme: Beauty and the Bee.
Spelling Bee teams are fielded by local businesses, non-profits, community associations, colleges, book clubs and friends. This year’s teams include the 2018 winning team, Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café; the 2017 highest fundraising team, Chestnut/Corner Kitchen; and more.
Funds raised by the Beauty and the Bee Spelling Bee support the Literacy Council of Buncombe County’s programs that provide basic literacy and English language services to 2,200 people in Buncombe County.
Hope and Healing: Faith Communities and the Suicide Crisis is a day-long interfaith conference in Chapel Hill on April 5, exploring how faith influences our reactions to suicide and what we can do better in our responses. Speakers will address how faith communities can engage, support, and build resiliency around those affected by suicide and suicidality. Our next Sowing Circle series is on April 6 featuring Chris Smith, Sow True Seed, will present Growing and Eating Heirloom Tomatoes. Chris will explore the growing and culture of heirloom tomatoes and the incredible diversity of varieties available to the home gardener – with a special emphasis on tomatoes in the southern Appalachians. We have a limited stock of free heirloom tomato seeds ~ Cherokee Purple, Mortgage Lifter and more ~ for you to start your own plants.
