Riverlink Bus Tours 2020
Sep 3 @ 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
New Belgium Brewery

Because of the Covid-19 situation, we will book tours on an individual basis. Please contact our office at 828-246-6777 or [email protected]. We will not mix groups with people who do not know each other.

Join us as we explore the history of the French Broad River and its seminal place in the development of Asheville–from the time when Native Americans lived along its banks to the Buncombe Turnpike, the railroad, and industries of yesteryear. On the tour you’ll hear about:

    • How the river has changed since the days of George Vanderbilt, Thomas Wolfe, and when NASCAR greats Richard Petty and Junior Johnson raced cars in the area.
    • The 1950s when Wilma Dykeman asked, “Who poisoned the river?” in her groundbreaking book, “The French Broad.”
    • The current-day thriving River Arts District, the beautiful chain of parks along the riverfront greenway, and the recreational opportunities that abound.
    • The great work of the RiverLink and our many partners (government, corporations, civic, non-profit conservation groups, and individuals) that have worked together to protect, preserve, and enhance the riverfront area so that locals and visitors alike can enjoy its beauty and grandeur.

If you like history and you appreciate environmental sustainability, this tour is for you.

 Deep Ecology + Yoga Retreat
Sep 6 all-day
School of Integrated Living

Deep Ecology & Yoga Retreat

Let’s come together for a long weekend of reconnecting with self, other, sacred purpose, and the earth.

In the Deep Ecology & Yoga Retreat (Sept 3-6), we will draw on the work of Deep Ecology and the Work That Reconnects to ground into our ecological identities, and also the practice of yoga to integrate the work into our bodies. We will spiral through the four stages of The Work: Coming from Gratitude, Honoring our Pain for the World, Seeing with New/Ancient Eyes, and Going Forth. We will leave with a re-nourished connection to our bodies, our planet, and our sacred purpose as leaders, changers, and activists.

Common Invasive Plants of WNC ~ ID and Prevention
Sep 12 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Black Mountain Library

The Sowing Circle Series will hold a free Zoom presentation on identifying and preventing common invasive plants in WNC.

Non-native invasive plants introduced into North Carolina are causing problems for our native plant and animal species. These plants are taking over our natural areas, parks, forests, urban environments, yards, and gardens. We have invited Barb Harrison, Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener, to teach you how to recognize and identify the most common invasive plants in our area and how to reduce their spread.

Registration required.  This talk is sponsored by Black Mountain Blooms Seed Lending Library and Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers.  Come join our gardening community and grow with us!
