Sylvia Rose Novak + Parts Unknown
Sep 11 @ 8:30 pm
Isis Music Hall

Growing up in Alabama as a “first generation” Southerner, Athens, GA based Sylvia Rose Novak frequently bucked against the conventions of the region in her formative years. She took to music at an early age, studying jazz bass since the age of 12. In her teenage years, she fell in love with grunge and the first wave of emo and pop-punk.

Though her career blossomed in the folk-Americana scene, Novak’s youth beckoned when it came time to write songs for her most recent album, “Bad Luck” (2020). Matching the youthful energy of the songs is her steadfast band-collectively titled ‘“Parts Unknown”.

The inability to tour in 2020 led Novak to record what will be her fifth studio album. As it began shaping up, it was clear that all traces of her folky past had been laid to rest under a mountain of thunderous bass and drums, heavy guitars and powerful vocals. The recordings soon split into two fronts: Side one a follow up to “Bad Luck” and side two a headlong dive into Novak’s Pop Punk roots. The result is a collection of songs that Foo Fighters fans will immediately gravitate toward, with Novak’s lyricism and productional vision at the forefront.

Come enjoy an evening of live music, food and drinks at Isis Music Hall.  Advanced Reservations are highly recommended.

its essence. This experience will leave you more mindful about food waste and aware of the

Etta James: The Matriarch of Rhythm + Blues with Paula Hanke + Peggy Ratusz
Sep 12 @ 7:30 pm
Isis Music Hall

Quintessential song interpreters, Paula Hanke & Peggy Ratusz team up again, to reprise their fantastic show honoring powerhouse singer, Etta James. Sure to be a sell-out, hurry and get your tickets before it does!

Paula Hanke and Peggy Ratusz shift effortlessly between genres with ease & control. They have been mesmerizing audiences together & separately, worldwide. Hanke, hailing from Wisconsin and Ratusz from Ohio, they have performed professionally for over 35 years.

From high school to present day, ruby-throated Blues Chanteuse, Ratusz, has toured the USA with show bands, acoustic trios, jazz & dance bands. Voted WNC’s Best in Blues for 12 of the last 17 years and in 2016 she was also voted Best Vocalist and Artist Who Gives Back. A semi-finalist at the International Blues Challenge, Peggy has capitalized on these opportunities, landing her on television, radio, festivals, performing arts theaters and showcases. Opening for Tedeschi-Trucks Band in 2011, she’s also opened for Taj Mahal & The Beach Boys. Her dedication and support promoting local and regional female music artists, is also notable.

Paula’s reach has been far & wide. She started playing classical piano and alto sax at age 10. Singing became her focus after being chosen for several young performing troupes in the Mid-West, Disney, & the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater in Florida. After an appearance on Star Search ’88, Paula performed at the Plaza Hotel & the Bitter End. Through extensive touring, she’s performed for Joan Rivers, Jerry Sinfeld & shared the stage with James Taylor & Willie Nelson. She appears on records by NPR composer, BJ Leiderman and international recording artist, David LaMotte.

Etta dimmed the lines between Jazz, R&B, Soul, Pop & Rock and Roll. Both of these fervent, adaptive singers are natural catalysts for these iconic songs, which translated into hits by the “The Matriarch of Rhythm & Blues.”

Come enjoy an evening of live music, food and drinks at the Isis Music Hall.

Carolina Celtic Live
Sep 13 @ 7:30 pm
White Horse Black Mountain

CAROLINA CELTIC - June 14: EJ Jones and Frances Cunningham

A Monthly Concert Series WE’RE BACK!!! NOTE FROM ROBIN: Because of the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, all live performances after March of last year had to be cancelled or postponed…including our brand new monthly concert series Carolina Celtic at White Horse Black Mountain. (We did manage to get the first concert, with Al Petteway, in under the wire before the pandemic forced us to cancel all the others – we were off to a great start, too, with a full house and a great show!) Now, with the development of vaccines and the gradual, cautious lifting of restrictions, we’re delighted to be STARTING BACK UP AGAIN as of June 2021. Whatever restrictions are in place in North Carolina at any given time will be in effect at White Horse Black Mountain – as I write this in April 2021, White Horse is open to live audiences at a limited capacity – but all Carolina Celtic concerts will also be livestreamed and archived on www.whitehorseblackmountain.com, as will all future shows at White Horse, so come join us wherever you are! – RB The award-winning Celtic duo of harpist Sue Richards and guitarist Robin Bullock, in partnership with White Horse Black Mountain, are proud to present CAROLINA CELTIC, a monthly concert series in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Carolina Celtic showcases Irish and Scottish musical traditions and explores their commonality with the Appalachian ballads and stories of the Carolina mountains. The concerts take place at White Horse Black Mountain (details and contact info below) the second Monday of every month at 7:30 pm ET. Every month Sue and Robin collaborate with a different guest artist, ensuring that no two Carolina Celtic concerts are the same. The inaugural season’s lineup of world-class musical guests is nothing short of extraordinary.
