We are seeking volunteers to assist us in our small after school program for children in West Asheville in low-income housing. We provide a safe and nourishing environment, healthy snacks, and creative activities. Our program currently meets during the school year on most Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00-5:00pm. You may volunteer for one or two days a week.

Join us every Thursday at 6:15 pm for our group run at Wedge Brewing Company’s Foundation location in Asheville’s River Arts District (5 Foundy Street). Runners of all abilities are welcomed for this self-paced, self-guided jaunt along the French Broad River. The run follows a route that is 7.5 miles out-and-back, but feel free to turn around whenever you want for a shorter option.
While we are spoiled with an abundance of singletrack trails, fire roads, and dirt roads in and around Asheville, flat road runs are harder to find. The Wedge Run was started in the Spring of 2012 to put a flat run on the calendar every week on a no-brainer out-and-back route. Oh yeah – we like finishing the run at a brewery, too.
We realize that Wedge Run has had a reputation of being a hammerfest. There is some truth to that – for many runners it is a good opportunity to go fast with friends. However, every week there are athletes of all abilities running a variety of paces and distances. This run is a great venue for an easy short jog, a long run, or anything in-between.

– Route is out-and-back from Wedge to the end of the Hominy Creek Greenway (7.5 miles). 3, 4, 6 mile options available by turning around early!

GreenWorks will lead a NOAA heat mapping campaign of the greater Asheville area this summer.
But we can’t do it without volunteers like you!
If you choose to join the fun, you’ll received an assigned route to drive or bike using specialized sensors to collect temperature and humidity data. You’ll have one hour to complete your assigned route.
The heat data you collect will be translated into maps we’ll use to identify the hottest streets, and ultimately, find ideal tree planting locations in the neighborhoods that need them most. You’ll be helping Asheville take a huge step forward on its road to climate-resilience.
A limited number of volunteers will be needed. Volunteers may be prioritized if their neighborhood is included in a mapping route.

White Squirrel 2023 will kick off downtown Friday evening and run through Sunday afternoon in the heart of downtown.
In addition to the live music, the weekend event features a smattering of delicious local food vendors and a beer garden featuring all of Brevard’s local craft breweries and wine. Craft, artisan and nonprofit vendors add to the weekend’s street offerings.

About the musician: Chris Norred is a multifaceted guitarist who received a BA in Jazz Performance from VCU. Originally from Virginia, he now resides in Asheville, NC where he continues to develop a unique solo guitar style. Chris writes his own arrangements of select titles by Japanese composers of popular video games such as The Legend of Zelda and Chrono Trigger amongst others. He performs exciting takes on popular Swing and Bossa songs from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, you’ll find Asheville North Carolina. With it’s clean mountain water, Asheville has a long legacy of beer brewing and now hosts over 30 craft breweries as well as some of the best breweries in the country. On the top of many lists of must see cities for the beer enthusiasts, this mountain town is also a mecca for runners, bikers and hikers alike. We are beyond excited to be hosting the Beer City Relay again in 2023, an event that encapsulates running and craft beer. Our host brewery for 2023 is Green Man Brewery. Established in 1997, Green Man Brewing celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2022. They’ve had many years to prefect their beers and you can taste it. The event is meant to be a fun 5k or 10k relay with a team aspect. The course consists of one 5k loop. Teams of 4 will each complete the 5k course 1 time in relay. Teams of 2 will each complete the 5k course twice in relay to run a 10k.Single runners 5k option. Runners will run the 5k loop once and need no other team members.
