Join us for our Juneteenth Cinema at Swannanoa Library! Based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter, Harriet tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes. For teens and adults, run time 126 minutes and snacks will be provided. This event is free, but you do need to register. Please visit the library web page and use the link on the calendar for this program to sign up..
A night of Live Comedy with in our cozy, vape-friendly Rezonance VIP Lounge, featuring a 3-course cannabis-infused dinner and infused drink, samples from local brands, and a goodie bag of dispensary freebies worth $50+!
All are welcome, especially dads and kiddos. Kids are free, Dads pay $10

LEAF Global is excited to be a part of Juneteenth on The Block, Wednesday, June 19. LEAF will be hosting art-making on the parklet (just outside our front door) from 4-7 p.m.
From our neighbors, The Block Collaborative: “The Block neighborhood will come alive with various pop-in events hosted by neighbors throughout the day. The festivities will culminate in an evening gathering at The Foundry’s Workshop Lounge, where we will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and fellowship. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate freedom, and honor this historic day. Celebrate the light of Summer with a one hour Summer Solstice Sound Bath! A sound bath can cleanse your soul, restore your balance, surround you with peace and tranquility and stimulate healing.
For the meditation, we will feel the warmth of the sun on your skin as you bask in the suns gentle rays imagining the light penetrating your body with healing energy.
Note: Please bring a mat/blankets/pillow since you will be lying on the floor.
Wear comfortable and flexible clothing.
Choose your space starting at 6:15 pm, doors close promptly at 6:30 pm.
NOTE: Accessible parking is available in the Center for Spiritual Living Asheville upper parking lot. The entrance to the upper parking lot is off of S. Bear Creek Rd between Science of Mind Way and Sand Hill Rd. (see map in comments).
There is a boardwalk walk way from the upper parking lot to the building entrance.

Join Slice of Life Comedy Friday June 21 at pleb urban winery for a fun Asheville Standup Comedy Pageant! We are raising money for 103.3ashevillefm our local community radio station, they produce diverse and eclectic programming that inspires listeners to build connections across our communities and discovers new music and ideas. This comedy show is moderated by your AFM friends at slumberpartyavl Jake Ali & Michele and hosted by the amazing Asheville treasure, Hillary Begley The contestants are the winners of 3 previous contests held at The Orange Peel’s Pulp Jason Webb Ryan Gordon (the third final contest is selected June 13) There will be games, standup and silliness. The stories we tell to, and about, ourselves determine how we experience life.Our stories impact our relationships with Self, others, and the beyond-human world.
Do you find yourself stuck in the same old movie? Going around and around with the same problems, getting the same results. Old stories impact all areas of life – work, relationships, spirituality, our sense of belonging in the world, and our emotional and physical health.
Our inner stories maybe repeated often but rarely examined and revised with an eye to our soul’s evolution. When we take the time to work with these essential life narratives we can change how we perceive and participate in the world.
Is it time for a new story?
This one-day, outdoor, program is a chance to step out of time, out of the continual narrative of your life, into a securely held circle designed for deep transformation.
Here you can let your guard down, fall apart, melt into the forest, and release back to the earth those loyal-soldier stories that may have protected you well but you no longer need and are only serving to shield you from life’s vibrant beauty.
In this magical space we will work with your story, ancient medicine stories from the Celtic lands, the nature and elemental beings to help you forge your new story. One that wings strong enough to carry you, radiant, into this next chapter of life.
About Your Guide: Kat Houghton PhD
Kat is a native British storyteller who has been guiding transformational experiences for over 25 years.
After a devastating loss, Kat descended into Grief, eventually learning how to apprentice herself to her sorrow with support from some wise Elders. Now, she walks with others as they dance with life’s initiations in all their guises.
Kat is a psychologist and wilderness rites of passage guide. She holds certificates in Eco-Therapy, Transpersonal Hypnotherapy and Transformational Coaching.
Kat thrives in the liminal spaces where the known brushes up against the unknown, always peering deeper into the darkness for guidance on life’s eternal questions. She creates safe spaces for people to explore parts of themselves that are hiding or ignored, bringing wonder to the process of inner growth.
Raised on farms in Northern England and Southern Scotland she now is rooting on a forest farm in the Southern Appalachian mountains growing mushrooms and guiding retreats.
The Logistics
This program is held by the 30-acre forest farm, The Forest Farmacy, Kat and her partner Chris, steward in Madison County, NC. There is plenty of space to roam in the forest. The farm backs up onto hundreds of acres of more forest.
Please bring your own lunch, a water bottle, journal and pen.
The Forest Farmacy holds a no alcohol and no illegal drug policy. They find inspiration through connection with the natural world.

Buncombe County Parks & Recreation’s annual firework display is returning to Lake Julian Park, and will be taking place on June 29, 2024. Buncombe County residents, families, friends, and neighbors are invited to experience the dazzling firework show on lawn chairs and blankets. The fireworks are scheduled to begin just after dark. It is recommended to arrive earlier to allow ample time to park and board the shuttle. Lake Julian Park is located at 37 Lake Julian Road in Arden.?
Guests are encouraged to arrive early to delight in the delicious food-truck lineup. Food trucks will be at the park from 2 to 9 p.m. There will also be an activity station where cornhole bags and horseshoes can be checked out. Disc golf and fishing will be open on the backside of the park closest to Hendersonville Road (56 Fisherman’s Trail). Please note that boat launching is not available on the backside of Lake Julian Park.
Parking on June 29 is restricted to Estes Elementary School (275 Overlook Road, Asheville). Those with a valid handicap placard can park at Lake Julian Park. There will be a shuttle transporting guests from the Estes Elementary School parking lot to Lake Julian Park from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.??
There will be one accessible boat launch at Lake Julian on June 29. Guests are allowed to bring their own boats to launch on this day. We will also be renting paddle boats. All boats must be off the water by 8 p.m. All picnic shelters will be available on a first come, first served basis.??
Before You Go:?
- Parking will be located at Estes Elementary. There will be a shuttle transporting guests to Lake Julian from this parking lot only. Only vehicles with a valid handicap placard, or those who are boat launching may park at Lake Julian Park. Limited parking is also available in the gravel lot next to Wild Wing Cafe.
- Alcohol and tobacco products are prohibited on the grounds at Lake Julian Park.?Pets are not recommended.
- Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair to relax around the lake.
Drop in to your center and move from there. This is a perfect time to pull cards and see what this next season may have to offer.
