Winter Lights returns to the gardens November 19-January 1

We are thrilled to announce that the 2021 Winter Lights holiday event will welcome members and guests back into the gardens as it returns to the traditional outdoor walk-through open-air show format. The famously tall 50-foot lighted tree and the Quilt Garden will be back, outfitted with new designs in lights, while throughout the gardens, popular arrangements will mingle with ones never seen before.

Winter Lights is the Arboretum’s largest annual fundraiser, and supports many parts of its mission driven programming.

Kick off the new year in Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park during this First Day Hike! A Park Ranger will offer an informative discussion about the Park’s history while the group strolls, hikes or bikes up to the 3.2-mile entrance road. Usually restricted to motor vehicle traffic only, there will be no cars in your way if you show up for this special, early morning hike that’s free to participants!

The 8th Annual Resolution Run takes place in downtown Asheville and is a fantastic way to say goodbye 2021 and welcome 2022 with new goals!  This annual running event races through the streets of Downtown Asheville, NC on New Year’s Day, at a reasonable 10am. We welcome families and participants of all ages to come run or crawl their way to completing their first resolution! Bring warm layers of clothes, tie up your running shoes, and get ready to ‘run into’ 2022! Conditional City of Asheville Permit for the 2022 event has been approved.

Join PARI on Friday, January 7, 2022 as we celebrate the largest planet in our solar system! 412 years ago this week Galileo Galilei spotted the four brightest moons of Jupiter and in honor of that monumental discovery we are sharing our best telescopes and internationally certified dark sky park to observe this planet, the moon and other fantastic objects you can only see with a telescope! Grab your coats, hot coffee or hot chocolate, friends and family then come to PARI for an unforgettable winter night.
