Sing and dance your way through an entire musical in just a week! This high-energy, low-pressure virtual class explores the plot and characters of a Broadway musical as young actors learn songs and dances from the show. With fun activities and games emphasizing creative play, movement, voice, and improvisation, this process-based camp will build theatre skills and allow a fun outlet for your bite-sized Broadway star. No experience is necessary.

Sip and stroll through the Arboretum’s gardens and experience our Wild Art outdoor sculpture showcase in the glow of the golden hour, all while listening to live music from a variety of local and regional artists! ArborEvenings runs Thursdays and most Fridays through October 1, 2021, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. ArborEvenings are not scheduled on the following Fridays: July 9, August 6, September 3 and 10.
There is no additional cost to attend ArborEvenings beyond our standard parking fee. As always, Arboretum Society members and their accompanying guests can enter for FREE (guests must be in member vehicles to receive free entry). Proceeds from ArborEvenings help support the The North Carolina Arboretum Society and further advance the Arboretum’s mission.
Please note: ArborEvenings will not be held in the event of rain. Please check the website or Facebook page by 3 p.m. for any cancellation announcements prior to attending.
Beverage Service
Beer, Wine, and soft drinks will be for sale onsite at the Green Gardener’s Shed from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. each night of the event. Outside alcohol is strictly prohibited, but guests are welcome to bring in water or a favorite non-alcoholic beverage.
Food Available for Pre-Order, Picnics Welcome
Although the Bent Creek Bistro will not be open during the event, we are pleased to share that they will be offering their delicious dining options at ArborEvenings via pre-order this year! Simply place your online order — including alcoholic beverages — up until 11 a.m. on the date you plan to attend, then pick up your order at the Baker Information Desk between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. (In the event of rain cancellation, pre-orders will be fully refunded.)
Guests are welcome to bring in outside food and non-alcoholic beverages. However, outside alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Know Before You Go
- Parking fees will be collected at the gate upon arrival, and members must present valid card for free entry. Pre-registration is not required.
- Restroom access will be available during ArborEvenings inside the Baker Visitor Center.
- Guests are invited to explore A Life in the Wild, a breathtaking exhibition of photographs from Thomas D. Mangelsen; however, food and drink are not permitted inside the Exhibit Hall.
- Leashed dogs are welcome at ArborEvenings, but are not permitted inside of buildings.
- To protect our lawn, blankets are not permitted at the event; however, guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs to set up in front of the musicians.
- Due to existing event bookings, ArborEvenings will not take place on the following Fridays: July 9, August 6 and September 3 and 10.

Hendersonville yoga studio, YAM, is offering free outdoor yoga at The Park at Flat Rock on Thursdays and Saturdays. Get outside and get moving with these fun and refreshing classes. Click to learn more about YAM’s community yoga.
Wine & Design will actually walk you through step by step to paint your fur baby! Guests will provide a clear photo of their pets, via email, prior to the class ([email protected]). Your pet will be traced directly on an 8×10 canvas. There will be an 8.5×11 colored print of your pet to use as a reference while painting. Your artist will guide you through every step of the way!

Learn the procedure adults should follow when providing CPR to an infant.
A minimum of two participants must be registered and present for a class to be held. Pardee Women & Children’s Center will adhere to Blue Ridge Community College’s inclement weather policies. In the event of inclement weather, classes will not be held when Blue Ridge Community College is closed.

Hailing from Siler City, the textbook definition of a picturesque small southern town, Nu-Blu’s heart and soul is husband-and-wife duo Daniel and Carolyn Routh. Carolyn’s caramel-coated soprano is one of the band’s defining traits, at times a tender lullaby, at times a freight train headed straight for you, but always unwinding a surprising tale. Daniel is the group’s backbone, a multi-instrumentalist and backing vocalist who also handles band management. Austin Hefflefinger on banjo, and Justin Harrison on mandolin round out the quartet’s warm, layered, Appalachian sound. Together they deliver upbeat, blazing-fingers pick work just as well as gentle, heartwarming ballads, and they do it all with a natural togetherness that can’t be faked, forged over hundreds of shows on the road.
Come enjoy an evening of live music, food and drinks on the Isis Music Hall Lawn. Reservations are highly recommended.
Beginner’s workshop lesson at 7:30 P.M., then 8-11 P.M. Contra Dance with Country Waltzing at the break and the final dance. This is a partner dance but it’s not necessary to come with a partner. We have different live bands and callers.

They help provide direction for the allocation of funds, the provision of human services, protection of residents, property, and our natural resources.

Buncombe County Board of Adjustment
One position is available. This Board interprets zoning maps; hears and decides appeals from any order or decision of the Zoning Administrator; grants Conditional Use Permits and Planned Unit Development Permits; authorizes variances in requirements of the zoning, junkyard, and off-premise sign ordinances. They meet the second Wednesday of each month from noon-2 p.m. Applications are due by July 23.

Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee (HCCBG Advisory Committee)
HCCBG Advisory Committee serves as an advisory body to the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners made up of appointed community members who meet on a monthly basis to:
- Review funding applications and provide County Commissioners with funding recommendations for aging services;
- Review quarterly reports and monitoring reports regarding the delivery of services from the funded agencies;
- Consider and discuss new ways to improve/expand on aging services;
- Review aging plan and provide input; and
- Advocate for aging services on the local, state, and national levels.
This Board has five vacancies, and the application process will stay open until all positions are filled. Apply online or download a paper application.
The Caldwell Arts Council announces its 35th Annual Sculpture Celebration in Lenoir, NC on Saturday September 11, 2021 at the Broyhill Walking Park in Lenoir, North Carolina.
Sculptors are invited to bring up to 3 sculptures for this one-day event to compete for $11,000 in cash awards, along with potential sales and commissions. Registration includes free camping, a Friday Night Sculptors’ Dinner, breakfast, and a meal voucher for the day of the event.
This annual family-friendly event attracts sculptors and buyers from the eastern United States to Lenoir, North Carolina and in past years, has attracted over 4,000 people. It is funded in part by generous sponsors and by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County Community Conversations Committee
We’re recruiting individuals to co-create and implement a series of Community Conversations throughout Buncombe County. The purpose of these conversations is to listen to, learn from, and work with the community; building the necessary relationships that allow ALL voices to be heard in creating solutions that elevate student success, support families, and engage communities throughout Buncombe County.
While no one can predict the future challenges our communities will face, we do know that to confront them effectively our neighbors who are most impacted by poverty and injustice must be active participants in co-creating solutions.
We’re looking for 8-10 Buncombe County residents who want to help create these solutions by serving on our Community Conversations Committee.
Committee members will:
- Be paid for their service ($25 per hour/applicable to community members only)
- Commit to serving on the committee for a minimum of 6 months (starting August 2021)
- Help plan, build, and conduct community conversations throughout Buncombe County
- Initially commit to serving 3 hours per month in planning meetings
- Lunch will be provided at each meeting
- Commit to any additional times needed to conduct the Community Conversations

The Learning Garden presents:
Introduction to Botanical Dyeing
Learn the basic techniques for turning common plants into pigments to dye any kind of natural fiber. Pat and Joyce’s presentation includes a short history of botanical dyeing and a discussion of easy plants to grow in your garden to get a variety of colors. Using common equipment you have around the house, you will learn how to prepare fiber to get the most long-lasting color. Pat and Joyce will demonstrate the dyeing technique and show the finished results at the end of the presentation.
