Morrison has had airplay on WTZQ and WNCW, and enjoys collaborations with several local artists onstage and in studio. Morrison is a teacher of Exceptional Children at Brevard High School. She is married to Mike, the love of her life, her champion, and best roadie.

Andrew Thelston is known for his unique blend of guitar-heavy rock, big grooves, soaring vocals, and passionate live performances. For the past two years, his power trio has been mesmerizing crowds throughout the Southeast with his brand of high energy rock-n-roll. In 2019, Andrew’s music was featured on the hit Netflix show “Lucifer.” In addition to songwriter and performer, Andrew is a producer for Ginger Bird Studios. His songs and videos are streaming worldwide.

Jamie Leigh Bennett is a cellist and flutist living in Hendersonville, NC. A native of NJ, Jamie Leigh has also lived in CT, WV, GA, UT, NV, and moved to WNC in July of 2014. Jamie Leigh performs with Carrie Morrison in the duo The Neverwhere Sisters. The unique combination of piano, cello, flute, and vocals really captures an audience. Jamie Leigh enjoys traveling locally and around the country in pursuit of her music career. She also teaches flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone and cello at the WNC Music Academy and out of a private studio at her house. She will be starting a MusicTogether program for children ages 8 weeks-5 years at the Academy in June 2021 and will be heading up a new instrument rental program through NEMC. AVL Digital Nomads: Celebrate First Year of Connecting Community
Jun 16 @ 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Wedge At Foundation

Celebrate Our First Year of Connecting Community

Last June 16th we had our very first AVL Digital Nomad meeting and we had no idea what would happen. The journey over the past year has been delightful. We have a fantastic diversity of interesting people and professions. Seeing how quickly we’ve grown shows how many people work remotely and look forward to social interaction. To our nomads, Asheville is about LIFE/work balance, where living comes first!

It’s time we celebrate our birthday back at our initial social location, Wedge Brewing/Foundy St. To mark the milestone, we’re adding some extra spice to the event, with special cheesy awards and giveaways! Join us to win a free pass to one of the local coworking spots (thanks to Hatchworks, Mojo, Focal Point, and Haw Creek Commons!), and who knows, you may even come home with a Very Special Award. ;)

We’ll pull some picnic tables together on the backside of Wedge Brewing and stick our signs on a table. As always, we’ll have name tags, to help ease introductions. We’re looking forward to a fun event, meeting more new friends, and enjoying some beverages and conversation. See you there!

PATIO SHOW: Wyatt Espalin + the Riverstones

PATIO SHOW: Wyatt Espalin & the Riverstones

In 2022, Wyatt Espalin shakes things up with his new band the Riverstones and a collection of songs that invites his fans to examine his songwriting through a different lens. After returning to his roots to live at the rustic campground where he was raised by his grandparents in the North Georgia Mountains, he found a setting that would inspire “DIAMONDBACK”, a collection of mysterious songs released in 2020 that gave his audience a bird’s eye view of an artist rediscovering himself. Well, this fiddler/singer and champion clogger has discovered more and before the Year of the Rabbit, all may be revealed. Let the enlightenment begin! After releasing Songwriter/Singer” in 2015, Wyatt went on to win the 1st Annual New Song Songwriting Contest at North Carolina’s popular L.E.A.F. festival. He has also spent the last few years sharing the stage opening for some of his songwriting idols Indigo Girls, Jennifer Knapp, Kevn Kinney, Chely Wright, Michelle Malone, Shawn Mullins, Patty Loveless, to name a few. During his performances, the haunting, intimate songs juxtaposed with the hilarious stories that he shares in the banter between them create a beautiful tension.

Wet
Jun 17 @ 9:00 pm
The Grey Eagle

Wet

Letter Blue is Wet’s third album, guided as always by the New York three-piece’s magnetic singer-songwriter Kelly Zutrau. But this is also Wet’s most collaborative release, with co-writing and co-production from Toro y Moi’s Chaz Bear, as well as Frank Ocean’s go-to keyboardist Buddy Ross. Notably, founding guitarist Marty Sulkow has rejoined the group, alongside their nimble producer Joe Valle. Altogether, they’ve helped to create Wet’s most natural-feeling and playful songs to date.

“We were circling back to the beginning,” Zutrau says, “when it was fun and intuitive and friends working on music, and how sweet that was.”

“Collaboration has always been an integral part of the best Wet songs, so it’s been both comforting and exciting to all be working together again and to embrace the many voices that have become essential to our process along the way.” Joe Valle

Wet released their self-titled debut EP in 2014, for the taste-making pop label Neon Gold, before moving to Columbia Records for two understated, celebrated albums, Don’t You (2016) and Still Run (2018). “Wet has what it takes to make everyone care about an indie band,” FADER announced in a glowing magazine profile before the band went on to play Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and sell out Webster Hall. They’ve toured with The 1975, Florence + the Machine, and Toro Y Moi, who also featured Wet on 2019’s Outer Peace.

Letter Blue is Wet’s first album via AWAL. It’s full of modern love songs, plainspoken yet emotionally complex, with any insecurity still delivered with clear conviction. Clearly created in a spirit of brightness and improvisation, Letter Blue finds them moving with a gentle touch across multiple styles, from poppy country to R&B and even vibey soft rock. The feelings are very fluid: “You don’t know whether to applaud or cry,” Rolling Stone once said about Wet.

“I’m always interested in multiple feelings at once,” Zutrau says. “Not just a happy song, but happy and sad and guilty — those can all be true.” This is as much a sonic statement as it is one about life: “We see these messages in music and media that are very black and white, but our lives don’t really live up to those expectations. Instead, we’re somewhere in the middle of all these states that are much easier to explain.”

From “On Your Side,” the tender lead single, to the more heart-wrenching “Blades of Grass,” Zutrau sings of embracing imperfect relationships, of trying to be less precious and overthinking. The production can be quite light and bright, especially for a band that’s often been at its best making ballads. Wet’s signature delicacy is still on full display, but Valle’s touch has evolved in a way that conveys a wink, with shining moments like a pitched-up DJ’s backspin on the UK garage-influenced “Only One,” or a sudden squeaky, weird whoop.

“Making music has been so much better since I’ve taken some of the focus off of it being just one person’s pure expression,” Zutrau says. “There’s people there to push you to be better.”

Stunning music videos by director Andrew Theodore Balasia often involve loops, a key concept to the album that Zutrau explains this way: “If you were to draw what you think your life is supposed to look like, it’s a sloping line upwards. But my experience has been more like a loopdeeloop moving in cycles. There’s no straight trajectory, and that can be disturbing and surreal. As you get older, you get further away from any expected reality.” Wet’s music finds real beauty in this spiral.

HANNAH JADAGU

Hannah Jadagu is an 19-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer from Mesquite, Texas, who is signed to Sub Pop Records. Using electric guitars that plug into her iRig, Garageband iOS, and a contemporary/indie style of songwriting and vocals, Hannah has created a unique sound for her music. Currently studying at NYU, Hannah has a modern take on music from the perspective of a small-town Texas musician.
